Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for May 2017. We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our 2017 Blog Hop monthly themes. This month we are featuring projects that are “stepped up” by using textures or fun techniques. We hope to provide you with lots of ideas and that you enjoy our creations.
You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the Line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below. The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects.
I am showing products that are “WALKING THE STAMPIN’ UP! PLANK” as we are in our final weeks of grabbing them! Todays card is for my wonderful godson that is graduating from College on Saturday and it was a perfect timing for todays theme of textures …techniques!
I think that we all have struggles with a masculine card…and yesterday I shared in my blog a Tuesday Tip with the “shaving cream” technique. Below you will see the “masterpiece” before I cut it down for the card.
I chose to just use 1 color of a re-inker….Delightful Dijon. Maybe I should have used several colors to make it more interesting…..I was super happy with keeping it super simple.
I hope that you watch the video below and then I hope that you go to the store and buy some shaving cream. Sometimes you can find a travel size!
I did it just like the video with the exception of using a paper plate. I know that there were many comments that it is messy but for me…I found that it really was not that bad. Remember, I am SUPER SIMPLE….so mess and simple are not like Peanut Butter & Jelly!
Here is the stamp set I used….I will hang on to this one. I love the fact that it is a photopolymer but more than that – I adore the uniqueness of it and the sentiments -they are perfect and LOVE the font!
You can see how incredibly simple this layout and card is. Again, simple works (well at least in my camp or should I say, “my world”) and you cannot go wrong with clean and basic cuts….love our Stampin’ Trimmer!
The DSP is from the Urban Underground DSP and I admit….I was LATE getting out of the gate with using it but then…..I saw the light! This is one CLASSIC and FABULOUS DSP offering! (too bad it is sold out) but for those of you that have some….I say – WOOT-WOOT to you!
I just had to add that heart…I know that Leighton is a young man with a bright future ahead but I just had to add that heart to let him know that wherever he is….HE IS IN MY HEART!
I hope that this post made you see that you can take a stamp set and make it work for your needs. This is what is GREAT about what we do – we all see things with different glasses on. I knew that this was coming to Randall Lane because my “peeps” love to travel.
You need to get hoppin’….there is so much talent out there – be a HUGE SPONGE AND SOAK IT UP!
Thanks for visiting. To continue with the hop, please refer to the Blog Hop Line-up below. We hope to see you on next month’s Pals Blog Hop!

Love your marbling technique! I did it in school with my PreK kiddos and made Easter eggs. They came out awesome! I need to try it on a card. Great masculine card!
Are you just going to bed??? I am SHOCKED that you are up! Isn’t it wonderful being up with the chickens! I am sure that your “kiddos” had a blast making their eggs – it truly is a fun and interesting look….
I have been on the fence about this stamp set. I may just have to get it now! Love your card!
Well I will say….this is a stamp set that can go for so many needs. I thought that it was super unique and I like the sentiments. Many thanks for popping on! Great hop!!!
Great card! The colors look great together….perfect masculine card!
Thanks. I was happy as it is a bit different for me -sometimes we need to be a turtle and stick our necks out. Enjoy the day.
Thanks for the reminder ( with video!) of this great technique–I know a Girl Scout troop who will now be doing this for their Mother’s Day cards this Saturday!
Great masculine card, BTW!
They will have so much fun. If you are short on time….take a heat tool to speed up the drying process!!!! Have fun with them.
I love the marbling! And this stamp set is definitely a keeper!! I was so sad to see it retiring.
Yippee that you like the marbling and I hear you about this gem retiring….it will be safe and sound on Randall lane.
Great card!!! I just love the clean and simple and yet it has that fun aspect to it! I have added shaving cream to the list! But I am one who use to love the smell!? Who knows now! My nose has definitely changed! And Susan, one thing we do not have in common! I love a good artistic mess!!! You should have seen my kitchen when I discovered the Gelli Plates last year!
I am with you on the smell …..it does not bother me one bit but there were many that did not like it! What the heck is Gelli Plates……sounds like a fun day to play!

They come in all sizes! Roll the ink on, put paper on ink, lift up and magic, monoprinting! I think the shaving cream might be easier!
Great card, Susan. Love the video and now I see how easy this is to do. Have a great day!
Yeah – I am glad that you watched the videos! SU does a great job on their videos so I say – WHY NOT WATCH THEM!
Bravo on a handsome card and the perfect shaving cream technique for a background!
It was fun to make and yep – I will make more – I bet that it would look great on the glossy cardstock. It was fun to play out of my simple element.
Perfect card for your God Son ! Love that you used only one color ! That`s different ! I`m with you on “Messy Projects ” But this is fun with Christmas red and green around the holidays !
I bet that would be fun for the holidays! I am going to play with the new limeade and black…..
You are all such globe trotters! I love this card for both the colors and the texture as it looks like canvas or black jeans plus the cool marbling. I really like that you only used the one color to do it. The heart is the cutest touch. This is just so cool and different for a graduation card. Gotta hop along now!
It is a FABULOUS hop….each month I am sooooo amazed with the ideas! How about you doing the hop next month!
I love this technique, such fun! Your background came out fantastic!
Thanks Karen…..I was in disbelief that it would work and yep….it did! I liked it with one color! Thanks for popping in!
Susan, this is truly a one of a kind card and your special guy is going to love it! I have not jumped into trying out the shaving cream technique yet, but you may have helped push me along. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Fabulous card… I love the technique!
Beautiful!! I haven’t played with shaving cream for many years. Guess I’ll have to give it a try!
Beautiful Susan! Too funny that we both used the same technique for our projects. Great minds, right?!
