I have a tip for you today about storing your DSP. I have shared ideas in the past but today I also have a video for you to see how I like to use the P-Touch Label Maker. I know that many of you have this label maker and if you do not, I would highly recommend to get one as you will be amazed at how handy this is all over your house!
One thing that I gets comments about is the fact that you do not like the excess waste there is with making labels and I used to feel your frustration as I felt the same way…..but there is a way to do so with little waste!
I have a bunch of links for you and to just make it easier, I have them all linked to Amazon. I know that there are some that are not huge fans of Amazon….but they do have all of the products that I used.
- Paper Holder – I use just (1) for the Annual Catalog but if I were you I would get (2) so you can easily add the Holiday Paper and Occasions paper in. It truly makes it so easy to have the 12 X 12 sheets in one place!
- Paper Files – I know that these are a bit pricey but they do keep me organized and as I have said, being able to use them each year – a huge bonus!
- Dividers for the Files – These are the ones that I put the dsp and then the word scraps – I keep all of my full sheets and I do also but 1/2 sheets (6″ X 12″) but once I cut them any smaller, they go behind the divider – just makes it super easy to find a scrap in a jif!
- Brothers P-Touch Label Maker – This is truly my friend. I adore this and I will say that I use it all the time! Just love it and it is a great gift to give to just about anyone. (even my peeps that used to make fun of me with this…..now find it handy!)
- Tape – white tape with black letters
- Off Brand Tape – I have used this and it works just as well and the price – WOW!
Please remember, there are soooooo many different ways to organize – this is just a system that works for me with DSP’s that Stampin’ Up! offers. With the new catalog coming down the pike, here is a great way for you to be ahead of the game. I re-use and re-use these pockets…I probably have had them for 10+years…..you can see on the video how easy the labels peel of and POOF – print and put a new one on!
Here is a video for you to see how I like to use the label maker to my advantage to save tape. Trust me, I was on the other side before being so frustrated with simply wasting tape….no more – this is a great tip and I figured that you would like to see it in action!
PLEASE ….reach out to me if you need further explanation….and also – leave me a comment with how you like this method and/or share something that works for you! I have tried many, many different ways but I always go back to this – I am all about having a system that works but does not take up much room.
I also like the ability to grab them off of my shelf and go…..being able to have something that is portable yet still will keep the product clean and in perfect condition – a WIN-WIN all that way around! (and THAT MAKES ME HAPPY) 😀
I still don’t quite understand how these three components go together
And I can’t find the video you mentioned
Hi Dorothy, I just figured I would try to help you. The Video link is right below the paragraph that says “Here’s a video” and above the picture of the container and the label maker. Click on the white and red arrow. Oh, I hope this helped you. 🙂
Hi Dorothy and I hope that Nancy’s comment helped you. If you hover over the area where the video is an arrow with be there – it is right over the “stampin” word…..isn’t Nancy just the sweetest to help….I do hope that you were able to see the video. Enjoy the day!
Susan, your video was AWESOME! I have been trying to figure out how to store and organize my DSP. The tip on cutting up the retired paper is also a great idea!! I have the label maker but have not used it because of the “waste” aspect. This will really help me so much. THANK YOU! I am with Dorothy on the point that I can’t find the video. I went on amazon but can’t find the folders. Do you have a specific name for them…there a lot of clear pocket folders. Thanks so much again! Your cards are stunnng! 🙂
Hi Laurie and I am wondering if this is what is going on. When you receive a post from me in your in box…..do you click on the part that says what the post is about (which will take you to the internet) that will share with you the video …any hyperlinks that I have added (that is where the products are highlighted for you) etc……
I hope that this makes sense….if not – please email me or if someone else can word it to make sense….I would appreciate it!
Remember, you still need to click the headed of my post name everyday to take you to the interactivity of the post….(this way you will view it in your browser)
I cut or copy the picture of dsp out of the catalog along with the description of all the colors that coordinate with it. I tape the picture to a piece of copy paper and it goes into my DSP binder. So when I’m looking for a certain pattern, instead of rifling through all the DSP, I just flip through the binder to find whatever I want to use and can see exactly what colors coordinate with it
PRESTO….great tip and I am so happy that you have a system that works for you! I will say…..it is so funny that we all have been down the path of how in the heck to we get organized…..and we venture off to many different roads along the way but when we find something that works….WE PARK IT and use it to our advantage! Many thanks for sharing – I am a visual person as well!
Good Morning All, I do the same thing as Sharon Gibbons. I copy and print out the DSP page from the catalog, with its coordinating colors. I put this in a “Job Ticket” folder with the paper. One thing I do is keep all my scraps in the same folder as the DSP and/or the card-stock. I cut the label from the card-stock when it comes and keep that in the folder too. I had no trouble seeing the video from here and I definitely have to keep it as I do not like to waste the tape either.
Have a great Tuesday . . . Thanks for the Tip!
🙂
I love those job ticket holders and that is what I use for my felt. I like your idea about putting the coordinating colors in with the DSP – smart move!
I will say….I could not, would not be without my swatch books of the DSP. For me it is a “reach of happiness” to have all of those gems in a tin at my work area….I love being able to see the DSP and then the solid colors to go forward with making a project!
Love, love, love organization and I have copied many of your organizing tips over the years. I have a PT Touch, too and your video and tip was so very helpful! Thank you Susan….you’re the best!
Anything for my favorite Sheep Herder! I am right in your alley of loving organizational goodies – anything to make life easier and more productive is a winner for me. I love being able to pull off the shelf the container of all of the DSP’s….when Susan is happy…..my family is happy!
I could access the wonderful video and wow, thanks for the great tips on printing out the labels! I also accessed the Amazon products you referenced and trust me I will hit the buy button on the paper files, dividers and more tape! I have two brand new holders all ready to use from the Container Store to hold the 12×12 sheets. I love the idea of the holder for the scraps as sometimes they scoot down and get scrunched up a bit. I THINK I CAN DO THIS!!!!! I also like Sharon’s idea of adding a description of the colors that coordinate with the DSP. I am torn between trying that vs. getting one of your DSP card thingies with the actual swatches – hey, that is the word I am searching for – SWATCH BOOK for the DSP. The swatch book would also eliminate the rifling through the holder and then telling me what colors go with it. I betcha that might be a very good splurge for me! I don’t have a color printer and I don’t think I want a binder. Wow, I just had to work through on paper, well the screen, to decide all this – boy, is there hope for me yet????
Gotta smile, is that a tiny delightful daisy on your finger nail? My labeler is older and just not colorful like yours – did you get another one to go with the new in-color?
Lastly, if you don’t see the arrows on a photo to access the video as Nancy described, I found that on some blogs you need to hit the beginning title of the blog or the banner to get into the post and then find the arrow to click on. Must be something in the set up on some blogs. But, keep trying as this is a great video. Susan, your system is a good and simpler system to use and if I can do it (I don’t see why I can’t) anybody can! Heck, I might even start one for my retired stuff and organize it like Chirstmas paper, birthday paper etc. for some of my 1/2 sheets instead of cutting them all into quarters. Sometimes I like to make treat holders and need just a bit more than a quarter sheet. I cleaned up on those little CD plastic holders at Walmart at the beginning of the school year but they only had black and purple ones left by the time I got there but darn, they are so handy!
PERFECT – you put it into the words that I was searching for…..YES – you still need to click on the beginning title to have the entire post go into the browser! THANKS!!!!
I will say, I do like the way that I do my DSP – I think that the main reason that I like it is that ALL OF MY DSP is in the one container that I can pull off of the shelf and go from there! When I started to add that clear sheet to divide the scraps…that WAS GOLDEN for me because it kept the little pieces away (and hiding) in my full sheets.
As I just commented to Nancy – the swatch books are the way to go. I know, I know that they are pricey but trust me….they do take a bunch of time to cut, punch, label etc…..very time consuming to do but well worth it in the end.
They are one thing that I do touch each and everyday and one that I would not be on my Stampin’ Island without…..once you have tried them, you will not be without them……I will send you my old ones from the current catalog…..and you will see that they are handy – I will say – I feel CLEANSED in my paper area right now…..just waiting for June 1st for the new catalog!
Good Morning Susan! It was great to see this in action! I’m one of those people who has looked at the $$$ and said, “Maybe later!” Well maybe later is now. Thanks for showing us how convenient this is!
Hello my CA friend…..I am so glad that you enjoyed the topic. Sharing tips to make like easier…..a smile maker each and every time! You will forget quickly about the $$$ when you see how it saves so much room for storing and also how easy it is for you to find what your are looking for! HUGS!
Thank you SO much for the awesome video – off to Amazon now !
I am smiling….I know that there are many that do not care for Amazon and I get it because they sure do have everything and it is sad for local stores BUT….it is a wonderful resource to be able to get many products for all of your families need in a click.
I will say….we keep a piece of paper in the kitchen for Amazon things….it is amazing how often we use it!
OK I just came back from our walk. The video arrow did not show up but I clicked on the title “A Tip for Tuesday” or whatever it just said and then it brought more pictures and the one with the arrow to click on for the video.
Now, get this, the darn hearse went by us on our walk and not only did the driver way he shouted, “Hi Chris and Ted!” Talk about a cold chill. I did find out though that my FIL had coffee with that funeral director recently and told Mr. Duven where we lived and that he probably sees us walking. That was a load off my mind but I really didn’t think he would shout our names – really I thought these people are suppose to be so prim and proper and just plain serene if not boring! He said he was off to the hospital…..
Of course this had to follow yesterday’s visit to the doctor who said “we” have a problem but not enough to put me 6 foot under unless I walked in front of a speeding car. But, we worked on some solutions and maybe we can get this all figured out what is going on. Gee, maybe I should wait to order my stuff on Amazon, naw and who cares if I waste a little of that tape if I forget to hit the escape button!
OH MY GOSH – I would have done just about anything to have a picture of your face when he said hi and then I would have love to hear what you told Teddy after he past! You are too darn funny and I am sure that you chuckled many ties throughout the day!
Oh – I forgot to say in your previous comment – the daisy on my finger….well several months ago I smashed my finger with a hammer trying to fix a fence board……it is bruised and this covered it….we all need some sunshine!!!!
Did you see the battle wound on my hand – I was a weed wacking mom on Saturday and the blister was soooooo bad – the battle wounds of being a farm mom!
I also use a similar folder for my DSP. I print out a list of the coordinating colors and slip it in a small pocket that I’ve attached to the outside of the folder. That way I don’t have to spend time matching colors or looking them up in the catalog.
WOOT-WOOT….way to go for finding a system and making it work! I just love hearing how we all do things! Many thanks for sharing….I hope that you are getting excited for the new DSP’s coming out!
Brilliant tips, Susan!
Thanks Mary…..my paper storage is very lonely right now…..but June 1st will be here in a FLASH!!!!
Okay , I have a filing system that works for me . I have a label maker (love) I use a sheet of WW CS with punched out circles of each dsp piece (front and back ) in the front of that set of papers . I also LOVE my DSP Swatch Books that I keep on my stamping area (love love ) BUT >>>>> I want some of those plastic folders for my Cardstock Families ! Brights…Subtles ,etc. I went poking around on Amazon ,but I want to be sure I get plastic and not just kitchen type flimsy stuff . So I will go look again . If anybody knows the name of the heavier ones ….let me know .
This is fun …..
Thank heavens we found out how Mr. Hearse Man knows who Chris is ! That was CREEPY ! Even her dog !!
I am sure glad I asked my FIL if he told him our names as it is just a creepy feeling. Today when I saw the hearse coming towards us, my heart did a flip flop. Then he rolled down the window, well, you know hit the button and said our names after waving, talk about a cold shiver in 80+ heat!
You are a mess….I hope he doesn’t go around the block or you and Teddy might get dizzy from making quick turns!
GREAT COMMENT Sonny……very well said to do the visual – I think that the VISUAL is the important thing for whatever our needs are. Between the swatch books and having a simple system system of organizing…..I am a happy stamper!
When you are saying a system for the brights, subtles etc…..are you talking about for solid pieces of card stock???? I totally “hear you” about flimsy stuff…..these pockets that I use are very sturdy for the DSP….
Susan! You are the best! I bought that label maker about 2 months ago after seeing one of your “Tips” and I think I was scared to take it out. Your video helped me sooooo much. Yes. I am ready to make labels. And thanks to all the other folks for additional tips.
Awe…..please email me if you need help with it but here is another tip and one that I use for SOOOOOO many things that I have no clue on how to use or do…..GO TO YOU TUBE and type in what you are trying to do – trust me, there are people out there that have a video for everything and you can find a great tip! LABEL AWAY my friend!
I need to order myself the folders… maybe some dividers. I have a label maker and have just accepted label waste as a way of life. I also buy the cheaper tape for my P Touch. Go Amazon! I’ll have to check out your video when I get somewhere I can watch it (reception desk has no sound).
You make me laugh – it is funny all of the funny things we attempt to do to watch a video….My kids make fun of me all of the time if we are in the car and I am glued watching something and then end up talking to myself!
I am excited for the mail today – AMAZON to the rescue….I ran out of white tape and I am on a roll getting ready for the new catalog!
I watched the video today (4.5 hours at the reception desk yesterday and it was BUSY). I didn’t previously understand the divider inside the folder but now I do and now I need dividers for my folders! That is brilliant! Hubby once bought a bunch of 12×12 tabbed dividers from a scrapbook place on line. He got them to divide up his record albums.
Anyway, I will buy the folders with the dividers and hope they fit nicely in my drawer. I don’t like paper out in bins like you have. Our climate is dusty but I will say this house is better insulated than the old place. Even then, I have a cat who will chew plastic and whatever is beneath it with his pointy cat teeth. He chewed up one of your card samples with matching envelope that was in a plastic envelope. So now your card has an unexpected rounded corner and no matching envelope.
My P Touch labeler is different than yours. It doesn’t ask number of copies or if it should feed. I do try to put a bunch of words in at once to minimize all the extra space and that nets me a label that looks rather like you get. If I have just one word or phrase then lots of waste happens.
Thank you everyone for helping me out. I loved the video and understand it much better now.
