Have you enjoyed the 1st day of the new…exciting catalog?
WARNING: – This is a long post…but hang in there as there is "blog candy" for you if you leave me a comment on which method you like best!
The new framelit is a TOTAL keeper in many ways and I did you today that I was going to give you the scoop on the SUPER NEW AND FUN Envelope Liner Framelits! Stampin' Up! is just the best in keeping on trend to the market!

You all know if you follow my posts that I adore a lined envelope…actually – I can honestly say that I never send a card out without one!
My #1 question I receive is…
"How do you line your envelopes"
This post is to show you the options of how to line envelopes…this new super cool framelit is "over the top"…super cool…..precise…Stampin' Up! great!
Yesterday my super upline, Mary Fish, did an AMAZING video on showcasing this new fun product! I have not yet ventured into the land of videos and Mary does a simple amazing job and the timing could not be more perfect for me! Click here and watch her great tips and techniques on this great new product!
As you can see…Mary has done a fabulous job showing you the 411 on the framelit but below I will showcase how I have lined my envelopes before this super cool tool! I will say…it is great to be able to use the adhesive from the envelope and using the new framelits allows you to use the envelope adhesive!
Below is the way that I lined my envelope BEFORE the new framelits!
This is so easy and it ALWAYS is a finishing touch that WILL
get noticed and truthfully it is like learning the
Stamp-A-Ma-Jig….once you get it….it will be like riding a bicycle –
you'll never forget it!
There are 3 key things that you will need:
- A Stampin Trimmer – When Stampin’ Up! came out
with this tool last year I know that there were many of you that thought…who
needs another trimmer as most of us probably have several in our homes…BUT – hands down, this is the best on the
market! Sooooo darn easy to use and sooo darn precise each and every time –
plus being able to “score” with the same tool is truly a 2 for 1!!!

- Paper Snips – I know it seems that I can justify
just about every product that Stampin’ Up! has…but seriously – these are not
only the sharpest scissors…they truly allow you to cut in teeny tiny areas –
the only problem is that once your family finds out about them…you will lose
them to a family member, so the moral of the story is = buy 2

- 2-Way Glue Pen – This gem is a “best kept secret”
tool of mine…I just love it and have many as I am always “going to them” often!
Why??? Simple – it is soooo affordable ($4.50) and it is the perfect choice for
lining envelopes… it does not leave a “bump”, it does not show through and just
a quick run around the edges is all you need!

Now to the simple "how to's" for you to be a
pro:
- Cut your paper into 3” X 5 11/16” (I think it is
much easier to think about it as one notch to the left of 5 ¾” – see picture)
Test this cut piece to make sure it is a nice snug fit but that you are able to
easily slip in into the envelope!
- Run the 2-Way Glue Pen around the outer portion
on the envelope, no need to smear any inside the bottom portion of the
envelope…. it stays just fine (trust me!) by doing just the sides.
- I then “eye ball it” to make sure that the print
is nice and straight ( I know…a bit compulsive) but what the heck – you want it
to look super!)…At this point I flip the envelope over and double check to make
sure it is even (you can usually tell by the print on the flip side)
- I run my hand all over to get a seal and then I
fold it over to get a crease – TIP: After you do this…put it back in the Stampin’
Trimmer and score it at this crease – it will give you a perfect sharp finish!
- Now use the paper snips and follow the envelope
and trim away the excess!!! Let your scissors do the work – TURN THE ENVELOPE,
as you cut the excess – do not keep turning your hands it will give you a
cleaner cut!
- Easy right!!! I know it is a lot of text and
trust me…whip a couple of them up and you will never have to read this again as
it will become so 2nd nature to you!
- Doing the outer side of the envelope…super easy
as well…do the exact same thing but simply put it on the outside and then trim!
Depending on the print of the paper, there are times that I like doing it this
way! (See picture)
- Now the next question you are probably thinking
about it…how do you seal the envelope to mail it? Easy – if I am personally
sending it myself, I use the 2 Way Glue Pen again to seal it…and if I have made
a bunch of cards as a gift to give to someone…I always “tuck” in a 2 way glue
pen for them along with stamps to make a complete and thoughtful gift!
- If I am not sending them out myself ( like when
I make the cards for my Breast Cancer Group), I put a bit of sticky strip so
whomever can peel it off at the time they need the card!
I know that this posting has been S O O O O O long and I apologize – I just want you to take it all in!
Please leave me a comment or email me about how you like either of the methods and I will randomly pick 1 person to win both……10 "Susan" way envelope liners and also 10 liners with the new framelits! I will pick the winner on Saturday at noon Eastern!
Please subscribe to my blog if you haven’t already…and I
appreciate YOU and I appreciate YOU telling your friends!
Stampin' Up! is great and so are YOU!!!
Until tomorrow!!!

Thanks for sharing 🙂 In fact I like both methods !! But that’s true that with the framelits it’s seems much easier.
WOW!!! Love the idea of lining the envelopes – it really does create that added special touch. I like the idea of having both methods to work with. The framelits are awesome but if I happen not to have my big shot out and want to be able to have another option to line my envelops now I do!!! Thanks so much for sharing.
I think I like the framelits better, quick, easy and not having to mess with glue or tape is great.
I love the idea of lining envelopes. I have never done that before. Thanks for sharing your way to line envelopes, but I think I’ll have to buy the envelope liner framelits. It looks easier. Thanks for sharing your idea.
You are wonderful to share your method of envelope lining with us. I prefer your method when a card is bigger than the Stampin’ Up envelopes. I can see where the Envelope Liner Framelits would be quicker; however, I usually make bigger cards. I enjoy reading your blog each day. Thank you for sharing.
Just know the Framelets only work with Stampin’ Up envelopes.
I do like both ways of lining my envelopes! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for sharing such detailed information. Can’t wait to add this amazing touch to my own cards and classes. I just love your style, Susan!
Framelits would be easier. I have never done liners but your cards and envelopes to match always look so classy!
I think the Framelits will be great, but in case I have a different envelope I can still line them. Can’t you use the 2-Way Glue for sealing it, by putting it on and let it dry and later when you want to send it, it will still seal? Or am I wrong? Thanks for posting all of this info.
I LOVE lining the envelopes and like your method as you can do it with ANY size card. I can see where the framelits will make it a bit easier, but I am so use to cutting them myself that it is so easy to do too! Thanks for sharing!
Hmmm…now that you’ve solved the adhesive problem on the homemade version, I will be lining lots of envelopes (I also like the idea of including the postage), but having the framelits for those last minute cards will be a necessity! Thank you so much for the comparison of these two methods – well done!
I think both methods have a use for everyone. If you use odd sized envelopes then we need to use your method, as the Framelits are for SU sized envelopes. Thanks for all your information and inspiration, keep it up!!
I like your way better. It is very simple and since I make most of my own envelopes the Framelits would not work. For sets to give away I use Lick & Stick from Green Sneakers, Inc on the envelopes. Thanks for sharing
Which method I use will be determined by the size of envelope needed. Both are very nicely done. Saying that, the lining would be a new experience for me as I’ve always been partial to doing the outside of the envelope. Thanks much for your sharing both methods – makes our handmade cards so special to receive it in a “matching” envelope!
I’ve just started to emboss the back flaps of my envelopes – LOL. I like the Framelits for the envelope liners – seems easy and can be made up ahead. Thanks!
Lining envelopes gives the cards a very professional look. I like your way of covering the entire flap. I also look forward to using the framelits. Thanks for the detailed tutorial. Great job!!
I’m with you. I make my own. Maybe I’ll try the Framelets sometime. There are so many other goodies to buy from the catalog that the Framelets will just have to wait a while. Love your blog.
I love the look of a lined envelope…but have to admit, I’ve never done one. So going to try. Thanks the framletes do look easy
I like covering the outside of the envelope.
I think it is prettier.
Not sure I would want to take the time
for the Framelits. There is envelope glue
on the market at the office supply stores
that helps if you do an inside liner too.
Your attention to detail is amazing. Thanks
for all the information.
Thanks again for a wonderful lesson. Will be trying it this weekend.
I like the new framework method best because it is less confusing for me and I love using my big shot!!
Your instructions are spot on as usual. I really appreciate you taking the time to teach others. I haven’t tried either method, so would luv, luv, luv to be chosen to have a “hands on” look at different methods.
Your envelope liners are beautiful and really make your cards stand out. I fell in love with the new framelits the minute I saw them. I’m going to opt for the easy way.
A great way to use up all my pattern paper. I plan to order the frame lots.
Love that you show us many options for lining envelopes. Lining envelopes has been lost over time and would love to see it come back.
Getting together with friends this weekend for card making and its a perfect time to try the “Susan” way envelope liners since I have all the necessary STAMPIN UP tools : )
Thanks for the instructions! I plan to use my Big Shot for mine, however, I’d like to demonstrate both options at my workshops.
Always enjoy the pretty envelopes on your post as much as I do the cards.
Being I really do not like to measure things, I guess you could say I vote for the new framelits. Wish they would come up with framelits for outside envelope too. Hint hint!!
I, too, love to line the envelopes. It makes it just a little more special and the person receiving this card also feels like they are special
Look at all the comments your are getting! I have tried a couple times to line them but just wasn’t totally pleased with my way. I will try your way which is more scientific than mine. But, I think the framelits will be my go to probably. Of course, I have to purchase them first. I am curious to see if they will work on the better envelopes from Walmart or other stores let alone other brands. If I don’t win the blog candy – maybe you will have to just send me a sample of both so I can really see the difference up close and personal! Just kidding but it would be fun to compare the to. Maybe SU needs to make a stamp that says do not slice open so people can really view the cool linings!
Thanks to you I started lining my cards a couple months ago, and you are right, it really is easy. I just ordered the framelits yesterday just so I have another option. Time will tell which one i gravitate toward. Thanks for a good overview.
I’ve only lined my envelopes a couple of times, usually I decorate the outside flap of the envelope.
With these new framelits though, I can see me using them and loving the idea of having the beautifully lined envelopes!
Thank you for sharing. I just love following your blog!
I have not lined my envelopes………..but i will now. Thank you for your great lesson.
I really like your way of lining envelopes and when I saw that SU now has an envelope liner framelit, I didn’t think I would get it. Now, I am having second thoughts and considering purchasing them. Maybe there is room in this world for both? Thanks for your professional opinion!
Have to say I very seldom used a liner in the envelope….that is till I came upon Susan!!! and your cards always look so finished that I gave it a try. Don’t do everyone but lots more than usual. I make my own as per your instructions, works great. Love your Blog.
Thanks for sharing your envelope lining technique.
Your envelope treatment is what first attracted me to your blog ~ I love the ‘finished’ product, and I may like the liner on the outside even better than on the inside. You are such an inspiration!
Well, now you’ve done it, how am I supposed to pick the one I like best, when I like both, even though I haven’t had much time to get the framelets down pat. I do like the instructions for lining them your way and plan to print them off for future reference. I look at it this way,mI may not always have my framelets with me:)
great instructions to line envelopes. I have always lined the outside with matching DSP but never lined the inside. Love your blog.
Thank you ! I believe with a couple of practice trials I can do this . This is such a nice extra for your envelope .
I love decorated envelopes! Sometimes I stamp an image on them and sometimes I line the outside. I have never tried lining the inside because I couldn’t figure out the adhesive issue. But Susan I like your way the best! The framelits are great but I prefer not to have that white border where the adhesive is.
I love the framelits!!
I love covering the back flap but I think I LOVE the new framelits!! Thank you SO much for the inspiration!!!!
See, I told ya’….I’m always a day late and a dollar short. My telephone and internet have been down for most of the week.
That’s funny! I line my envelopes now the way you taught too!! Now, using the way you taught me, I can line any size envelope. So, I really, really appreciate you teaching me you to do this.
I’m not sure yet about the new framelits as don’t they only fit the S.U. size envelopes?? Anyways, I don’t have any S.U. envelopes as of yet.
I may give the framelits a try; but, I think I will always use the way you taught me.
Thank you so much for sharing and teaching all of us! You are awesome! Oh, Long Post – Long Comment! =)
Thanks for sharing.I do like covering the outside of the envelope I think its so pretty. I love the envelope Framelits. Can’t wait to get my.
I have never tried to line my envelopes so I am looking forward to getting the framelits. But I thank you for the tutoria – I’m going to try it today. Thanks!
I like easy so the framelits are the way to go for standard sizes! However, your approach works well for odd sized envies.
I really enjoy your cards and how you line the envelopes. Thanks for sharing.
Susan … I love your lined envelopes … Thanks for the visual on the measurements … It’ll make it much easier for me to try!
ooops! I commented but put it under the wrong post, lol. thank goodness you extended the time, lol! I like both ways especially since I don’t have the money right now to get the framelits!!
There’s nothing like a lined envelope to evoke added sophistication to a card. I just think the new envelope framelits are the best! Thanks for a chance to win!
I love the look of a lined envelope. I would probably line my envelopes using your instructions. However, if I won the “envelope framelits” I am definitely sure I would use that method. Thank you for sharing.
This is great thanks! I’m guessing the framelits only fit the SU envelopes?
I have a huge box of invitation size envelopes from Staples that I need to get through…I will be using your tutorial to line these!!!
