First Happy Valentines Day and I hope that you have a special day as you are special….I do not like to be a "Negative Nellie" but I have HAD IT with the SNOW!!! We receive 18+ inches and it is days like this that I ask myself…what do I love animals so much!?!?!?
I feel like I am a young mom with little ones at home…with the door revolving with wet clothes….the dryer running non stop but the reality it is…it is just me John and I and…5 dogs…1 pig…3 horses….and one miniature donkey (that does not like me one bit)!
With John doing great – this weather is not the best (so he needs to be extra careful) so I am on my own with the animals and when I "bundled up" to go to the barn in the morning….the snow was sooooo deep and drifting was so high….the Jack Russells looked at me like…."Mom – we need help"!!!
The horses would love to go out but the snow is just too deep - hopefully over the weekend we can plow some paths in the fields to let them out of the barn to stretch their legs….but until then they are at the Ritz Carlton and I am their house keeper!
Let's get to the card today – today is John's Mom & Dad's 61st Anniversary! Isn't that just wonderful….when I stop to think about it…I am in awe!!! What a true testament of love and dedication! Happy Anniversary Gram and Pap!
Do you ever look at the ideas that are in the catalog? ( page 114 in the Annual Catalog) Well….this is where my inspiration came from for today's card! Let's go!
- The card is a 5 X 5 card in Smokey Slate. I cut the front of the card with the Floral Framelits (these are ON SALE – so basicall the front ot the card has a big floral cut out hole!
- Very Vanilla was the base colorI used to do all of my stampin on with the help of the Day Dream Medallions Stamp Set!
- One thing that seemed very weird to me was…I kept Stampin' and Stampin' with the various of sizes of stamps all on the same piece of very vanilla! (3 in total) The Stamp-A-Ma-Jig is a MUST…a MUST as you are stamping all on the same piece of Very Vanilla!!!!
- Look at the below picture and you can see how I used the Mono Liquid Glue to adhere it to the front of the front! It is easier to put the glue on the back side of the card and then place the stamped image….remember – use a LITTLE BIT of this glue….to me this is the best adhesive for this project as you can wiggle the image around to get it "just right"
- It looks rather ugly….."right" – (you can see that I use my paper to the MAX – I started with this side….made a boo-boo….but the best thing is…..a quick "flip over" and WOWZERS – good to go!!!!)
- Now we cannot let this card go out like this!!! Easy – I cut a piece of Smokey Slate at 5" X 5" and adhered it to the back of this and PRESTO – one beautiful card!
When you look at this card you can see that there are 4 stamped images (all from the same set….woot-woot!!!!)…..the first 3 were all stamped on the same piece of Very Vanilla and then the 4th one was stamped on a piece of very vanilla scraps and then cut out with the Floral Framelits!
The colors I used were Calypso Coral, Pool Party and Smokey Slate.
- To the last stamped image…I pulled out the Very Viintage Buttons and linen thread and using a Mini glue dot – BAM – done!
- Because it is Valentine Day and it is such a special anniversary…..I needed to put a heart somewhere….thank goodness for the small heart punch!
- The sentiment came from the Hostess Set called, Express Yourself…..one great stamp set! I simply stamped that on a scrap piece of paper and then cut the ends….quick and easy!
- The pearls here and they are the perfect accent to make this a special card for this wonderful milestone anniversary! These just "make" the card go to the next level! (again, this card is much prettier in person"
- I did make my own "custom" envelope ( so easy to do) with the help of the Envelope Punch Board and then the liner that worked perfectly was from the Sweather Weather Designer Series Paper fromt he Holiday Catalog…
I encourage you to be inspired by ideas that are in the catalogs…they are always great ideas of inspiration for me and I knew that I wanted to make John's parents a beautiful card for their special day!
Let's hope that this calendar keeps rolling and we can have "Spring" here soon….the carzy thing is that we are to be in the 50s next week – crazy!!!!!!
Have a wonderful Valentines and do something special with the one you love or do something special for yourself….as you are worth it!!!!
Be safe if you are in a bad weather area and until tomorrow!!!!!
That stamp set is on my list (which I will be ordering soon)! I love that card, both your version and the one in the catalog. I keep thinking that the stamp-a-majig must be crucial for all that stamping! What a mess that would be without it!
Don’t get lost in the snow!
Beautiful card, Susan, but the instructions are not very clear – the section that was weird to you and you were stampin’ and stampin’ – what do you mean? And did you start the medallion with the Floral Framlits die and then stamp on that piece? Where is the silver piece you cut out originally?
Maybe I should have gone to sleep last night and these instructions would be understandable to me!!! Regardless, it is a gorgeous, sweet card that I know John’s parents will cherish. Congratulations to them and congratulations to you too that you have not gone bonkers with all that snow!!! What is the matter with that ole donkey that he does not like you??? How could anyone or anything not LOVE you??? Hugs – Lou
Good Morning Susan, The card is so pretty and it really did need the 5 x 5 size, I think. The colors are very nice too.
The donkey does’t like the hand that feeds him? Silly donkey. How nice that John’s parents are celebrating such a great anniversary. Do they live by? Keep cozy and have a great day! 🙂
Thanks for the comment and you are right….the instructions were not clear…to be honest – I was sooooo tired and both John and I fell asleep watching the Olympics and I just hit the button to schedule the post!!!!
I did just go back in and hopefully made it clearer for you!!!! Please go back and see if this makes sense! It really is a pretty card and it was not hard to do at all!!!
That DONKEY…..he truly has a mind of his own! I gave him to John for his 50th birthday and we have had him for almost 9 years now and he STILL DOES NOT LIKE ME and I am the one that feeds him!!!! (He does make me laugh!!!!)
A story to make you smile – my twin sister and I were horse crazy as children and we begged and begged our parents to let us have a horse. Mind you, we lived in ‘town’ so the horse would have to be boarded in the country and we would have to be driven out there every day. Finally my wise Daddy said that he would buy us a donkey and if we took care of him as we should for a month and demonstrated our maturity and responsibility, then he would consider getting us a horse. Well, you know how that turned out. That dang donkey started kicking well before we could even get close to him and he did not like us one bit – the feelings were mutual. We never got a horse….
I did this card too! I love this color combo!
Dear Susan, THis is such a pretty card. I have this set and the framlets to go with it. I might have to give it a try. Congratulations on John’s parents 61st wedding anniversary. God Bless them both. They will love this great card. I have to laugh about this donkey. I agree that is a very naughty animal that does not like you. How can anything or anybody not like you. You are amazing. John is so lucky to have you be willing to do so much around the house with all that snow, animals and everything else. You are a wonderful lady. I agree too much snow this year. I have had enough of it in Fairport, New York. outside of Rochester, New York.
Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day. Do something special with your great husband John. Happy Stamping, Ellen Hinds
Happy Anniversary to John’s parents. It is always amazing to see two people love each other through out many years. It trully is a great gift. The card is georgous! I must try this soon…I also love any thing houndtooth. So your envelope is also perfect. Whitch paper is that particular houndstooth in? Because I’m loving it this morning. I also can’t wate for spring to hurry its little self into our lives. We have had snow and lots of cold this winter here in North Alabama. But, not like you guys. Stay safe, warm, and away from that mean donkey
Congrats on 61 years to your husbands parents. That’s awesome and so is your card. WOW….so very nicely done!
Happy Valentine’s Day! I am sure that there must be nights when you are too tired to mess with us, but thanks ever so much for your posts and cards – it is the first one I read in the mornings.
Love the layering with the sentiment.
If you haven’t already, time to try a little something in your hot chocolate – Bailey’s, Godiva …
Happy Valentine’s Day! What a lovely card! I must confess I forget to look to the catalog for ideas and inspiration (I am always working on a wish list when I browse the pages. LOL) Of course, who needs the catalog for ideas when we have you? 🙂 Have a great day! I can’t believe the donkey doesn’t love you. Now we know how the donkey got it’s nickname! Hahaha
Yes, I do look in the catalog for inspiration. My in-laws celebrated their 70th wedding anniver. last Sept., before Papa passed away in Jan., one month ago. So happy that were able to get the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren together for their last special anniversary.
