It’s Thursday and that the “magical” day of the week that it is time for a Pals Paper Art Challenge! Before we get to the “nuts & bolts” of this weeks challenge, I want to point out some facts/guidelines about the Pals Paper Art weekly challenges!
- This is a weekly challenge on Thursday’s and it is open to everyone…. so guess what – everyone means YOU!!! You do NOT have to be a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator…you do NOT have to be a PAL…you do NOT need to be a customer of a PAL Demonstrator…
- Every Thursday there is a challenge…one week it is a color challenge, the following week is it a sketch challenge!
- Follow the guideline and have fun! You can use any materials your heart desires and you are not limited to using Stampin’ Up! products!
- Go to the Pals Paper Art website and upload your project that you made! If you need help, please reach out to me and I will be more than glad to help you! (many of you know that I am computer challenge in many ways – but I can do this like a champion!
- On the following Wednesday, the winners will be announced and you can “pick up your badge” and put it on your blog/website if you have one and if not….no biggie – YOU will know that you won and you should be super proud of yourself!
Ok….I hope that this helps explain the in’s and out’s of these weekly challenges and I truly hope that you try…you have absolutely nothing to loose…so just do it!!! I personally adore the color challenges and that is what today’s challenge is!
The minute I saw the color combination – I knew immediately what I was going to do….I just love it when things like that happen – makes life sooooo easy! Below is the palate of colors we are working with today! LOVE…LOVE ….LOVE!!!!
Tomorrow is the “magical” day that you can see the NEW Occasions catalog in it’s entirety and also you can start ordering from it…you are going to just love it and true – it will take some time for it to “soak in” but that’s what I am here for…to show you some examples of stamps that will be both fun and practical!
January is a month that I have a special birthday …it is my dear friends birthday and we have know each other our entire life! She is one “class act” of a special person and I wanted something clean, tailored and classic! Mission accomplished in my eyes!
Here you go…to the enabling part that you all seem to love!
- The card size is a 5” Square…fun size – instant fun and special!
- The Island Indigo is a 4 ¾” square and using the NEW must have stamp set in the NEW catalog…Another Great Year….this stamp “screamed” to me to heat emboss it – something that I have not done in a while!
- To do this…use the embossing buddy to go over the area that you are going to stamp….why??? I know many of you think it is a gimmick but it really does work – this little “sack of love” takes off any static or residue that is on the paper so when you stamp you image…you will get a clean crisp stamp!

- Always use the Versa Mark Pad when heat embossing and I just fold up a piece of computer paper…sprinkle a bunch of White Embossing Powder over the stamped area and then tap off the excess!
- Now to the fun part, heat up the Heat Tool…and I find working in a circular motion is the key to an even end result – let the magic begin…make sure that you do not hold it “too close” to the image you are embossing as you can actually burn the paper – trust me…I’ve done it! Once you see it turn to a solid, shiny texture – YOU’RE DONE!!!

- Another new – WOWZERS product in the new catalog is the Fancy Foil Designer Vellum…so over the top beautiful! I used the ½” circle punch to pop out some gold circles and then you can see that I also used it for the liner! This comes in both gold and silver and a definite must have! It comes in polka dots, stripes and hearts! WOOT-WOOT!
- I thought that the card could still use a bit of “specialness” but actually I did it for another reason! When I stamped the image on the Island Indigo…I just used a whole sheet of paper and forgot to cut it (silly me) so I cut a piece of white vellum to use as a guide and then I thought – I will just mat the Island Indigo….loved the end result!
- The envelope was made with the envelope punch board…you bet this product will be on my continuing posts of things I love!
Get ready to have a BIG cup of coffee to take in the new catalog tomorrow and if you need me to mail you one…please let me know! It will take many “look’s“ to take it all in….there is truly something for everyone and every style of paper-crafting!

Great card! Love that New stamp set! Ordering it soon and thanks for the on the weekly challenges! One of my goals for the new year is to CASE less and create more! Happy Thursday!
Love those polka dots you created, Susan! A very fun card!
Hi Michele…I LOVE that goal! Makes total sense! Remember…when you find a certain layout you like…just change up the stamps!!! Works every time. We all run short of time in creating! Thanks for popping by!
Such a fun card, one of my favorite colors, Island Indigo. Love the gold dots and embossing. WOW I haven’t done that in a while. Thanks for sharing.
very clever to mirror the vellum with the gold dots. Really brings everything together with the dotted vellum in the envelope as well!
Big, bold & beautiful!
So pretty! Love the gold dots!
Love your vellum and dots together. I always like polka dots and this bold style is great.
I would have drawn a blank with that color combination but you created a wonderful card!
Susan, I just love the heat embossing and your gold foil polka dots.
This is such a great design. I’ve become a fan of looking for your Signature trio of tiny dots on your creations…I think they may have been replaced this week by their older siblings, the gold polka dots! LOL!
Susan, every morning I look forward to seeing the great card that you post! Today was no exception. What a fun card!
Gorgeous in it’s simplicity Susan!
I love your vellum mat and how you punched those gold circles out! Lovely card– your friend will love it!
Susan, What a beautiful card. Your friend is going to love it. You did a simply elegant job with the colors and the Vellum. The gold circles are so beautiful. I love the embossing. Have a great day, Ellen Hinds
Another simple but very elegant card . Yes, this new year I will try the challenges also. Have a great day
Very simple, but with a “POP”. I also like it’s elegance with the gold. TY
Love the card – sort of a fresh look with a pop of gold. Look at all the wonderful comments you are receiving!
Have a safe and great trip to Houston. I would have loved to have gone but then I would have just wanted to play and visited old friends!
Looking forward to seeing what everyone learned!
Looking forward to using the new vellum. The elegant look it lends to your card is great. Hoping the new year brings many new creative ideas for all, how can we go wrong with the super stuff SU offers us. Take care and stay safe and warm.
Looking forward to the new year and new designs/products. So much fun! Thanks!
Heat embossing–Now there is something I haven’t done in quite some time. I also have not given in to the envelope punch board yet as I still buy my envelopes. I find too many other things in the catalog I want more first 😉 Thanks for sharing!
Hi Susan,
Thanks for the explanation of the PPA challenge. Maybe 2014 is the year I’ll try to join in a few. I love the gold dots looks so good with the envelope liner! 🙂
Love this big bold stamp. Your card is stunning!
