Good Morning the day after! WOWZERS…the holiday sure does bring twists and turns to the dailiness that we all get accustomed to! It is 9:30 a.m. (Eastern time) and this is the first I have had the opportunity to have my friend (my laptop)…let me explain why!
Do you remember on my last post I share that one of the "peeps" was flying home (Tuesday night)??? Well, this was the start of the "stealing of my computer" and the comedy of events that just seem to happen to me! It is all good and I knew that many of you would get a kick out of the "life happenings" that happen with my wonderful family!
I can without a doubt say that this is what I adore about blogging…I can try to let you in "my world" – never a dull moment! Let's get going and tomorrow – be ready for a super cute "Thank You" card…as now we all need to get our "Thank you's out"
- Tuesday Night….James flight (which should have been about an hour flight) was delayed….and delayed and delayed…John and Hannah went to pick him up and Will and I stayed home. This was the beginning of my computer being taken away from me!
While we were waiting for the "airport run" I asked Will (my oldest) for some help on the computer and he was horrified with the "mess- as he called it" of my desktop and then when he saw that I had over 10,000 pictures and that I did not have anything backed up…..my computer became his possession!
He is the best and all day Wednesday he worked on my computer…bought an external hard drive…backed everything up and try to make my computer faster etc….the only problem is that when he gave it back to me last night after dinner….everything looks different….WOW – I am challenged when it comes to technology but as he said…baby steps Mom…
- Back to James flight…..he was to get in at Baltimore at 9 p.m….and after attempting to land 3 times the pilot headed to Philadelphia as they needed fuel. The runway lights in Baltimore when off on the main runway they were to land on and they were attempting to land on a shorter runway and the pilot was not comfortable so off to Philadelphia! (Now as a Mom – hearing this was not the most comforting)…they refueled and then waited to the BWI situation to get fixed…and he landed at 2 a.m. in Baltimore! They did not get home until 3:30!
- Yesterday was great…this is the first in sooooo long that all 3 peeps were home and we shared so many memories…we always work on puzzles but this time it is a 2,000 piece puzzle and WOW – it will be a long time before we get this completed! Christmas Day for us is a L O N G day filled with just "hanging out"…lots of cooking…taking walks….just doing nothing and everything all at the same time!
My brother and I went down to the C & O Canal for a long walk and when we returned…Will was working on the puzzle and said – "Why do you and Dad not carry your phones with you?" – John was at a Nursing Home visiting a client (Isn't John the best) … so neither of us had our phones. Hannah had to take James to the Urgent Care as James put an oyster shucking knife through the glove and into his hand! Will is soooooo laid back and as he said this to me I was panicked and he was just as calm as a cucumber! James is fine…several stitches and we still had the oysters for appetizers!
- The finale of the day is our feast…always the same menu as it works…Prime Rib with 2 sauces (Mustard Horseradish and a Stilton)…Roasted Yukon Gold Potatoes…Creamed Spinach…Fresh Coconut Cake…YUM! We never opened up any gifts until the Prime Rib was roasting…it was a wonderful day.
James won the "creative award" with the funniest gift…he came down the steps with a carry on piece of luggage and placed it on an ottoman and asked all of us to gather around – He unzipped it and said "Merry Christmas" – welcome to my "Trunk Shopping Show" It was filled with socks of all kinds and we all went shopping…it was super fun and my dear 83 year old Dad had a blast!!!
Will won the "make Mom cry" award as not only did he do what I shared wth my computer…he went into my "closet full of pictures" and went through a bunch of old photos of the family…scanned them and enlarged them…and wrote each of us an amazing note that was so touching…it was such a great cry!
Hannah won the "thinking out of the box" award….as we all had to close our eyes and she placed a basket in our arms…when we opened our eyes it was filled with bits and pieces of her abroad experience….with foods and traditions of each of the countries she went to…she was so proud and excited to share.
Enough about my wonderful holiday…I hope that yours was super special as well and having family is so special…I love them to pieces and I am looking forward to a great day with them!
I will post a card tomorrow….please pop back as it is super cute! Keep making memories – the season is in full swing!

Wow Susan, your day sure was “adventful!” Nothing like the little twists and turns life brings us. My family and I had a wonderful blessed Christmas…love spending time with family and special friends (we try to have a giggle or two every day). Also, Christmas Eve was extra special since I received my card from the cardswap. Thanks Susan! Have a great day and have fun with your family!
Merry Christmas, Susan. I have a “Will” in my family too. I called home from a business trip several years ago & my son answered the phone. We chit chatted for awhile (about nothing) & I finally asked to speak to his dad. He casually told me dad was at the hospital with our second son. He had broken his shoulder, what!!!???
Merry Christmas and a most joyous New Year:)
Merry Christmas, Susan. It sounds like your week was wonderful and eventful. I love hearing your stories! Looking forward to a bright and happy new year. Blessings to you and yours!
Karen
Sounds like a wonderful and very special family holiday. Sorry about James’ stitches! I hope he heals quickly!
Looking forward to seeing your card tomorrow!
Thanks for sharing your family with us!
Cyberhugs!
Thank you for sharing as Bridget said . This sounds sort of familiar to some of us ! Only I am into repeats with GK now and thank heavens I have the privilege of reliving these episodes !
The computer experience sounds like what it is like to my having a SIL that works for Microsoft !! Oh well …it is all for better technology activities !
Enjoy your family on these special days as I know you do !
What an eventful time YOU had! C’est la vie, eh? Mine was lonely until the afternoon, when my guy friend showed up on his motorcycle and we went for a spin {the wind was cold-so we bundled up}to go see a classic {maybe vintage by now..LOL} Pontiac GTO — whoa, she was beautiful! Then we rode across town to see a couple of friends for a short visit. So, it was still a very pleasant time.
So glad your computer is “updated”, needs to be done now and then. He was sweet to get those pics done like that.
Looking forward to your card tomorrow! Need to get my “thanks” cards finished and off, as well.
Hugs and keep smiling…
Sunshine Sharon
You made my day!! What a blessed day you had, thank you so much for sharing. 🙂
I love how you always see the bright side of any unexpected events and make the best of the situation. Glad you were able to have all three of your children home!
Sounds like you truly had a wonderful Christmas, even with the unexpected events thrown in. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
Dear Susan, What a wild ride you all have been through. I hope your son heals quickly. It is so nice to have family together. My daughter is a coach bus driver and spent Christmas eve and Christmas day and still driving a group of people from Toronto to New York.WE spent our Christmas Eve and Christmas day with family. It was great but missing my beautiful daughter. It is also so nice that your son was able to back up your pictures. My daughter always teases me that I am so computer challenged. Which I am, I wish all of you a very Blessed Christmas and a very beautiful time together with family and friends. Happy Holidays everybody. Love your site Susan, Happy stamping Ellen Hinds
Your children are so creative. They must get it from you. Sounds like a wonderful time for all, except for the stitches.
And I thought my drama was big. But yours takes the drama award. When my youngest and his little family were leaving, I tripped and fell, hitting my head on a brick. So, blood every where, and off to the ER. A CT scan and four stitches later. I didn’t loose any grey matter, so all is well. Have low grade headache, my head’s a bit sore but all in all we had a wonderful day.
Hi Susan and family . . . what a lovely day. Mine was great, calm and no excitement. I was thinking . . . you should write a novel, that is how much I enjoy reading your blog posts. When they end, I’m like oh no, that’s it for today?! Very happy for you all.
xoxo Nancy 🙂
Hi Susan,
We have a very “full” day….but I can’t imagine getting everything in as you described. Sounds so “Family” and that is what we LOVE about Christmas too!
Happy New Year to you and your family too.

What a wonderful holiday you had this year! Of course I have omitted all the “bad” that happened. What thoughtful children with the gift giving ideas! I immediately thought of the tear jerking Apple holiday commercials. Welcome back! You were missed!
Merry Christmas Susan. Wow! What an eventful. How wonderful and thoughtful your children are!! You did a great job!!!
What a wonderful way to start my day, Susan! Thanks for sharing the events of your family this Christmas. It was filled with sweet memories old and new, and your readers can feel the love and caring you have instilled in your children. We had a wonderful Christmas as well with our 3 married children and all 7 grandchildren, as well as my husband’s sister, my mother and her husband. My two favorite events were the Christmas story read by our youngest grandchild (she turned 6 in September)from my red King James Bible that I got when I was 16 (50 years ago!), and a painting of a daisy (my favorite flower) done by my first born grandchild. He is 14 now. Lots of other fun was in between, but these are memorable moments for me. Last year, our grand daughter that was 5 read the Bible story. She is 6 months older than the one who read this year. Our tradition when our kids were young was to read it each night under the tree through the month of December, then read it Christmas morning before opening gifts. Now we have one of the children or grandchildren read the story before opening gifts when we gather as a family. My red Bible is always the last thing to be put under the tree once it is decorated and it moves forward as gifts are placed under the tree. It serves as a reminder of why we celebrate Christmas. Wishing you, and all your loved ones JOY throughout the new year!
Susan, what a wonderful, fun filled day, other than James having to go to emergency. Family is always the best. By the way, could you send Will to me to help me with my computer. I probably have about 10,000 photos as well and don’t know the first thing about cleaning up my computer or saving to an external hard drive etc. Thank you so much for sharing your Christmas story. It warmed my heart more than you will ever know. I don’t have family around me so it is nice to see what others are doing.
