This week we are focusing on a sketch to guide our creativity and I must say, the talented Kerry Bray had me scratching my head as I wanted to make it a super clean and simple card as time was of the essence for me when I sat down to create! Then all of a sudden a light-bulb went off and I said to myself. "What's Up with you today….no mojo" then it hit me…What's Up Stamp Set will do the trick!
I hope that you will play along this week at the Pals Paper Art weekly challenge. I already know that there is a bunch of great talent out there and tomorrow I will share with you the cards that were emailed to me for the Monday's challenge! Let's keep moving….
When I looked at this – I see a square card…and a rectangle….and you know what that is exactly what I did! EASY BUTTON!
This is a great example of letting your DSP go to town. I know that you have it….I know that you just hate to use it…but PLEASE USE IT as there will be NEW DSP soon….and than that cycle will happen again!
Very Vanilla is the neutral of the day and I think that this is HANDS DOWN why I adore this DSP, Flashback, as it coordinates with Very Vanilla. All of our other DSP's always pair up with white.
Let me give you some quick measurements (as I know you really are happy when I do that)
- Overall card is a 4 1/4" square and then the next layer in is 4" and then I scored it (see below picture)
- The "What's Up?" piece is 2 1/2" X 3/4" and then matted with 2 5/8" X 5/8" and lastly with 2 7/8" X 7/8"
- The DSP is 2 1/2" X 3 1/4"
Because it is a square card, out comes the Envelope Punch Board. Ironically there is not a measurement for a 4 1/4" card so here you go! I would suggest that you write it down and tape it to the bottom of your punch board.
- A 7 1/4" square of paper and then punch and score starting at 3 5/8"
- Using the DSP and "green glue" I simply continued to use my DSP (HINT-HINT) and then trimmed away all of the excess!
I might of started off a bit rocky with my thought process of todays card…but at the end I was very happy! The "What's Up?" stamp set has some super fun stamps in it to send those…just thinking of you – what's up? kind of cards!
This would be a great card to send to someone that you have not heard from for a while…or even to someone that reached an achievement/milestone and then in the inside put congratulations! The sky is the limit with what we can do – just think out of the box and have fun!
Let's continue to talk about FUN….please pop back tomorrow as we have WORK TO BE DONE! I am going to give you some homework that 2 , maybe 3 people have the awesome opportunity to win some BLOG CANDY!
This will be HOMEWORK so I am giving you "head's up" that you will need to look at your catalogs, but in the long run – I know that you will be happy!
Also, tomorrow I will do a showcase of the Monday Works of Art! You all make me smile, you all inspire me to take the time each day (and trust me – it does take time but I love it) to do my blog because at the end of the day…I feel that I have inspired you and that hopefully you will go and make some work of art from your heart!
I am an email away and I look forward to tomorrows blog posting! Please feel free to leave me a comment on how you like this super simple card!
Dear Susan, I have never used very vanilla and I guess in my mind I think white is good enough for me and with limited storage space it was a color I did not need. Thanks for showing this card and now I will be adding very vanilla to my stash of paper. I wonder what my hubby will say when I tell him we need an extension on my craft room to hold my new goodies.
Love it and love Very Vanilla! So “funky and hip!” What a great way to use DSP and help us expand our craft sights. Thank you, Susan!
Great card, as always! I, too, am lacking mojo for anything. I have so many cards I need to do!
I hope you have a nice day!
Cyberhugs!
I Love it when SU uses Vanilla in their dp’s instead of white! It gives me a chance to play with vanilla, and it really does make a difference! Your card looks easy but it also makes a bold statement….beautifully done with the scoring and the use of those pop dots too! Thank you for sharing your love for stamping with all of us, Susan! I enjoy reading every word of your blog each day, so please don’t give up! We need you~
I have a hard hard time using up dsp ….thank goodness I at least bought the Envelope Liner Framelits because I use dsp more now ! Also on the Very Vanilla topic …it is a nice soft off white I think …I like it because it isn`t too yellowy ….
Your card is a winner ! How cute ! Great card to keep a few made up for JIC..(Just In Case)
Thank you for giving such great details !
C&F for sure – cute and fun! I am a vanilla girl all the way! I love this card! Great use of the background and then layering the sentiment. Love the scoring as well. Well done my friend!
Fun card today. Lemons to lemonade I’d say. You struggled with an idea, and came up with a real winner. Well done! I love the showcasing of DSP. Am going to give this challenge a try. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s show of Monday’s talent.
Love it Susan. quick, simple and eye catching!!
Super, super cute! The scoring on the sides really blends the card together with the DSP and the Very Vanilla is always an underused treasure! I appreciate your blog so much and I look forward to it each day. Caleb and I look at your blog together now; and, my husband usually pops over our shoulders to take a look, too! I’m not sure who is most excited to see what you’ve created! We feel like we’re a member of your extended family because you share so much of yourself and are so genuine! You are the best!
Great way to show off some DSP, Susan! I really like the additional score lines too!!
What’s up is a great card, Susan! It doesn’t look like it stumped you at all!
You continually amaze! Love this card. Nice of you to admit that you felt stymied initially but you would never know that this wasn’t completely planned from the second you saw the sketch. What a great job.
Super cute! Love that DSP with the sentiment!
