Well I need to start today’s post with one statement…
There are sometimes in life that you cannot make stuff up!
Before you read the “It only can happen to me” story in trying to get to Atlanta….I really wanted to share with you the card with the dimensions as it is a layout that you are going to want to “store away” for the future!
Today’s card is the card that I made for the swap today! As of yesterday morning I had no clue what I was going to do but I knew that it had to be simple and I think I accomplished that!
I would call this a “formula card” as the layout is a classic one and one that you could make over and over again! Please do not look at it and say – “I am not a Halloween person” – I realize that the stamp that I used might not be your cup of tea but look deeper to the layout!
Here are the dimensions:
- A-2 Base in Very Vanilla and then the next one is a “smidge” smaller, 4” X 5 ¼”
- I simply took a piece of scraps and stamped the image on and then fussy cut it out (I did stamp the scraps before I left the house yesterday and figured that I would be able to cut it at the airport)
This stamp is from the Witches' Night Photopolymer Stamp Set and it works great with the Lots of Labels Framelits, but I knew that there was no way I could crank out 55 of these before I left)
TIP ALERT: – I highly recommend using the new black ink for a big stamp like this – it did give it great coverage and I know that it can be frustrating to get a clean and crisp image with the larger stamps!)
- Using the “green glue”, I adhered this to a scrap of tangelo Twist and did the same, a quick fussy cut.
- The super fun “bat print” is from the Happy Hauntings DSP Collection – too darn tootin’ fun! This is 1 ½” X 4” and then matted on a piece of Tangelo Twist that is 1 ¾” X 4”
- All that is left is some stampin’ dimenensionals and some fun dashes! (I have a confession, I did not get to do the dashes on the swaps…..
There you go – one clean and classic layout that can be used for ANY OCCASION! The sky is the limit so I suggest that you remember this super simple layout!
I can hardly wait to receive swap cards…..it’s like Christmas and I am looking forward to today. There are people from all over and it will be wonderful to put a face to so many that I have corresponded with via my blog. You know if Brian is hosting it – it has to be a blast!
If you feel like reading the story of my getting here ~ read on for a good laugh – it’s a classic!
I felt like there was a gray cloud over my head and maybe it was not supposed to be – but I am… between missing the horse show … getting sick this week…..now leaving John and the animals with a TON of rain fore-casted etc…I thought – maybe this is a sign not to go!
Do you remember that yesterday I said that I was going to have “me time” in my room and check emails, surf the TV and just have some needed time…well – that was out the door!
As I am typing this it is 11:30 p.m. and I am still not at the hotel…I was to arrive into Atlanta at 5 :15 and then meet up with FUN friends for dinner and a great chat session and then get to my “me time”
The plane was delayed leaving due to an issue with the engine (that was super comforting to know once we got on the plane – (another clue that this was not to happen) and then we had to wait on the plane for a while before we took off!
I was super excited to get busy with my swap cards but there was a problem….I was sitting in between 2 guys that could have been football players and every time I tried to “fussy cut” – I would elbow them so I decided to close my eyes and go to sleep.
I woke up when the plane landed and I could not believe that I slept the whole flight. I asked one of the guys what time it was and he said 5:15 I said – this is great, they really made great time with us leaving late.
Then I told the other guy that this was the 1st I had ever slept through a whole flight and he looked at me like I had 3 heads! All he said was ….I just want to get home and when I asked him where is home he said, Atlanta and I thought that was silly and then it all came together!
The captain came on and said that he was sorry that he had to make the decision to turn back to Baltimore but when the plane was taking off he hit a bird and the bird went into the engine….he said that it was clear that there is something stuck (poor bird !) and thought it was safer to turn back.
Now think of me….I have already called John and told him I had landed and was excited to meet up with Michelle and Deb and that I was safe! (I truly wish that you would have seen the look on these guys faces….PRICELESS when I figured it all out and hear me on the phone) – They laughed and laughed!!!!
We had to get off the plane…..and wait for a new plane (this worked out as I was able to work on my cards!!!)….whew – I hope that you all received a chuckle out of this – looking back on it, it really is funny! I
Once I got to Atlanta, I has a 30 minute metro ride to the hotel, so this is when I typed it…I am super excited to get a good nights sleep and have fun.
Pop back tomorrow – I will have lots of BEAUTIES to show you…..

The card is great. Love the layout and will keep it for many occasions. But your story is worth the price of admission!!! Glad you arrived safely and was able to keep your sense of humor. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Say hi to Brian for me. He doesn’t know me, but I see his smiling face every day on his blog, as well as yours.
Ha Ha Ha! Chuckle Chuckle Snort! I certainly hope the rest of your trip will be memorable but in a warm and fuzzy way, Susan. Just have fun and go with the punches. Love your layout…super cute and the dashes add such a classy elegance!
Oh my gosh, what a story! You will never forget this trip. LOL. 🙂 I adore your card today! I am not a gory Halloween person but this card gives a “spooky” feel while still being totally fun. Enjoy your time with all the SU! friends you’ve made. Glad you made it safe and sound and are able to laugh about your three heads, etc. 🙂
P.S, I’m requesting a picture of you with your tacky tag on…I saw Brian’s on his blog and it is over the top, just as one would expect from him!
Hey Susan, quite a trip you had there. How did you smuggle the scissors onto the plane? ?
Hilarious.. I’m sure you made those guys day..ha ha.
But what I can’t get over is that you are ALLOWED SCISSORS on the plane !!!!!
In Australia no sharps of any kind.
Glad you made it ok, enjoy and show us lots of photos please.
Cheers
Bahahaha! I am laughing so hard reading about your adventure… I can just picture the “football” men and little you in between them sound asleep (could be a snore or two) and not having a clue as to what happened! Glad you arrived safe and now it’s time to enjoy. Love your swap and can’t wait to see the others.
Oh Susan! What a great card and STORY! I laughed out loud – you made my day:-). I had hoped to go to Brian’s event, but it wasn’t in the cards (no pun intended)- maybe next year. Hope you have a blast!!!
Susan you have such an amazing attitude. Enjoy your trip (and it was a TRIP)!! i am certain your football guys will enjoy telling their story of this “lady on the plane”! Have fun!
Goodness! What a trip! I imagine the pilot could have done without such a trip, himself!!! At least you didn’t have to land in the Hudson (or the Potomac, or the harbor).
I hope you have a terrific time with all the fun people(maybe I can go next year) !
Cyberhugs
It was good that you did sleep with all the engine problems – that would have been scary otherwise I would think! At least you made it safe and sound. Can’t wait to hear what happens on the return trip! I hope the rain doesn’t cause any problems let alone the hurricane reversing and going inland! Otherwise, have a lot of fun with everyone and looking forward to seeing the swap cards.
Card, yours is so cool! I really like the simple layout and the DP you used is the best! Is the bird cut out and popped up on dimensionals? Speaking of dimensionals I thought oh, she probably left her packages of dimensionals at home and that is the problem in the story or that they took the scissors away from you on the plane. Then, to read your story! At least they didn’t try and land someplace else. Some smaller places actually close up the airports Mike said on a flight last year! Anyway, I love this card and layout. Maybe I will pop up one of your little 3×3 cards you made me on a bigger card with the bat paper from the shares!
You DO have some adventures! (I will need to remember this if we ever were to travel together!). Glad you’re safe as I was worried about you and weather. Have a great time!
Oh, great card too! Great format.
Ok so I can’t stop laughing at the “football” guys and their reaction to your story! Life with you is ALWAYS an adventure!!! It is a good thing you have such a positive attitude to just go with the flow. Part of me wishes I was there with you on this trip and part of me is fine in seeing I hate to fly. This would have done me in for sure with flying!!! What happened to driving????
Love your simple statement style card!(Say that 3 times fast!)
Have a wonderful weekend! It can only be uphill after that start!!
Glad you got to Atlanta safely, Susan. Good to hear you could take the metro from the airport to your hotel. My hubby and I were driving two cars through Atlanta on Tuesday at 2 PM and it was the worst traffic in Atlanta we have ever driven through! Maybe I’ll come next year! It sounds like so much fun!
Know you all are having a wonderful time!
Oh my what a day! I did get a chuckle from your story though. Glad you landed safe and with your usual happy spirit in light of all the events. Enjoy all the rest of your trip! Your card was fantastic!
Oh my gosh, your story was a hoot. You must have slept HARD. First engine trouble and then a bird in the engine. That flight sounded doomed. Good thing the captain turned around. I hope it goes smoothly for John while you are out gallivanting around! Great card by the way and that stamp and the holiday it is for suits me just fine!
Wow! Susan what an adventure you had! I love seeing all of the swap cards. What a talented team. I hope that someday I can join you all…it would be so fun to meet in person. XO Hugs
Glad you had a safe arrival in ATL….just sorry to hear it took so long! As for working on cards on the plane….I have done that many times enroute to Convention and Leadership events. I have learned to vie for an aisle seat so my right arm is on the aisle (since I’m right handed this allows me to have an elbow free for cutting, etc.) as I learned the time I ended up on the aisle with my left arm on the outside and got a terrible stiff neck trying to stay turned toward the aisle so I didn’t keep bumping the guy in the middle seat with my right elbow!
I love the cute card you made….great layout and good for Halloween or use another image for any other occasion!
