I know that making sympathy cards is a tough one because many of us like to customize the card for the specific person. To me when I do this, it allows the memories of the person come to me but then there are other times that we need a sympathy card on hand….and this is a GREAT one to have.
I have used this stamp set so much…I wish that you could see how stained it is (that’s a GOOD thing as a stain photopolymer stamp means it is of good quality) – I know, I know…..many of you do not like the fact that they look icky but I will say, I do love the ability to see right through them!
Besides the stamp set, the key to this clean and simple card is the Big Shot and the Deco Framelits. Do you remember the other day that I shared with you that purchasing “nesting dies” are a wise choice? Well this is a great example of that.
When you have dies that are graduated in size, it allows you to make frames (like I did today) and it also makes it a cinch to layer one on top of the other! In the below picture you will see how I created a ring and then put the next size smaller in for the focal part of this card. You betcha that I will use that Mint Macaroon piece for something else!
I think that when this paper came out in the annual catalog we were all in awe of it. It truly is a beautiful pack of paper but I think the thing I like best able it is that it is in Very Vanilla…I think it is so rich and comforting. For those of you out there that are fearful of using up your DSP….look at this!!!! I am using it to the max and I think that you will agree, it is very classic.
The dimensions of the papers are just 1/4″ smaller each level. I know that you are covering up a bunch of DSP but trust me, it is stunning and you know that the recipient will love and appreciate your kindness….(remember, sharing acts of kindness DOES make a difference)
Another win-win about this stamp set is that there are great sentiments to stamp in the inside of the card. I know, I know…..I wish that Stampin’ Up! had more “insides” for us for the variety of occasions we make cards for…
I do not know about you……but when I find a card that I like and that it simply “works for me”, I like to make up a bunch to have on hand. I made up a dozen of these to have on hand and not only did they come together quickly, I am ready to have a card if needed. (Actually, I would challenge you to have a “keeper” card in all occasions…..maybe this would be a fun challenge for us)
Having to send a sympathy card is hard…but I think that we all agree that it is a necessity. This is a great sympathy set…I had posted last Spring a card with the other major stamp in this set but I will do another card for you soon so you can see how to use the entire set!
You know what I call this….A KEEPER! Let’s continue to have a great week and go make someone smile today!

What a great “keeper” card! The simplicity, style and colors make it a warm, embracing card for someone in need. I have a few “keepers” too that make it easy to grab or make when needed. Enjoy!
All your card combos today are classy and timeless. I am going to CASE these–today! I’ve (unfortunately) been in need of a lot of sympathy card since December and blew through the “stash” I had on hand. As always, great job!!
Great cards, Susan. I love this design in the variety of colors you used.
Great card and layout. Hopefully I won’t need to make any of these for awhile.
Thank goodness nothing about organization today. It might have sent me over the edge otherwise! Ted and I made our way in gusty winds for a walk. The yak track thing on my boots – well one is clear off and gone and the other doubled up and caused severe walking discomfort. It was blowing so hard my hat came off. The mittens had to come off to pick up the pile which then I had to carry. Finally got home and decided to check the car. A layer of ice under the snow but I think I can manage that. The windshield cover decided to “melt” or something. I pulled it up at the corner and it left a layer of navy blue residue on the windshield. So, I abandoned that and came in. My glasses were fogged over too. Ted is whiney and being obnoxious as we only went a few blocks and he wanted to explore more.
On top of this, my local SU demo wants me to come and pick up my order from December including the new catalog and Sale-a-bration one. It is not that I don’t have another the catalogs since another demo sent me them but it is the idea that she didn’t bring the order over! She lives like 6 blocks away. I think Crabby Chrissy needs to go back to bed and pull the covers up and hibernate! I am getting off the soap box now…..sorry everyone.
A sweet simple card for us today. Thank-you!
It’s OK Chris. I feel your pain. It’s February, and we both live in the midwest. Nebraska isn’t much better. I always knew there was a reason why February is the short month. We just need to get through it, as there will be crocus, daffodils and forsythia soon. Besides Iowa has had a very busy January!
Thanks Robyn, I needed a little boost. The navy blue stuff ended up just in the bottom right part of the windshield and not the whole thing. It actually started to scrap off too. I couldn’t get any of the doors or trunk open and finally got the driver’s side open to turn it on plus the defrosters etc. At least I got to the ice scraper thing. I had one in the back seat and one in the trunk! Even though I am old I have only been driving like 10 years so I still don’t know a whole lot. So, I think I am good for the car for now unless the driver’s side decides to freeze shut! It was not the lock at all. Whatever. I like your idea on why the month is short! Where do you live in Nebraska? I am in Pella over by Des Moines.
As far as my local demo, I like our group that meets to make cards that she has, otherwise, I would drop her like a hot potato! Of course the hot potato might feel good since my thumbs are still bright red and stinging from the cold! The Hallmark store had one pair of the pretty red mittens left at 1/2 price. They are big enough that I can wear a pair of gloves under them. What do you think, if I go there will they still be there?
