Happy Thursday and today we have a fabulous sketch from the super talented Linda Callahan – I always admire her clean and classic style and she always adds an element of “fun” to her cards and this sketch below is a FUN ONE! I hope that you pop over to the Pals Paper Site and see what the other designers came up with this week – it is always such a treat to see how others interpret a challenge!
I think that you can tell that I have been having cabin fever with the colors I have been using lately! I just keep convincing myself that if I use HAPPY and CHEERFUL colors than the sun will come out….and I would be happy!!!! After reading the comments from yesterday, I think that we need to send the sun to Iowa for Chris R. – I promise that one day we wlll meet in person and trust me, there will be a whole blog post about that venture!
You all know that I adore BIG and BOLD fonts…why???? They are the show stopper and you can keep your card super simple! Remember, this stamp set, Botanicals for You is a FREEBIE with a $50.00 purchase in Sale-A-Bration! Click here to see the brochure and guess what…..There are 3 NEW items being added in the middle of the month and I know that you are going to be excited. (but honestly – this one is such a great set…the flowers are perfect “fillers” and having sentiments for the inside is fabulous!
Let’s get to the ins and outs….this is super simple. Navy, a Bright Yellow and White are a happy trio…..crisp and classic! I am using the Brights DSP Paper Stack as the FUN paper. I was able to make this card and also do the envelope with just a 6″ square of paper. I go ahead and cut my 12 X 12 DSP Stacks into 6″ squares and I find it easier to store and easier for me to see what I have.
Using the Night of Navy as my card base I let the contrast of the Daffodil Delight POP! These paper stacks are true lifesavers when you want a color really POP and how can you go wrong with polka dots…..YOU CAN’T – I am sure an instant smile is on your face! I call this “happy paper” 🙂 (Chris R….don’t frown with the smiley face)
True to my style and what I love…a great crisp stamp with a simple mat….and then POPPED up….it doesn’t get any easier or better than that. Paper is so fun….isn’t it just the best that you can take some paper….make some simple cuts like I did today and end up with something that is fun.
Can’t you see how versatile and fun this card is? Remember…we are the ones that LOVE and ENJOY and DERIVE PLEASURE from creating these works of art….but what is the IMPORTANT PART is the message inside. I am the very first one that says, “I do not like my handwriting” but guess what?????THAT IS ME….that is the familiar writing that my children and friends know….so please do not underestimate the power of a simple card!
Please go and see what the other designers came up with! There is so much talent out there and guess what….I am meaning YOU as well! We all have gifts….we all have inner talents….please do not be afraid to shine as you shine in my eyes! Please feel free to email me and I hope to see you tomorrow as it is going to be a DOG GOOD DAY…..
I have not blogged much about my buddies since Norman past….so I want to give you the scoop with how the other guys are doings….they make me pitter patter! The amazing support of cards, emails and texts are/were amazing! I have so much to share that will warm your heart! See you tomorrow!

Susan, I laughed out loud when I saw your card. I had just finished my post and published it before coming to your blog. Our cards are almost identical. I hope the spring colors are bringing you the joy you seek. We have lots of extra room at the house if you need a reprieve from the cold and snow. Hugs, Michelle
LOVE your card today! So bright and cheery. We’re excited for to,orrow’s update. 🙂
Love the colors (RL) and I love the layout as well! Vey simple and bright, just what the East Coast needs! Smiles all the way (especially to Chris R.)?
I also love your bright and cheery card, Susan. It brought a smile to my face immediately! I live in Iowa as well and I get Chris’ frustration. I think you had it right with the cabin fever thing. I can’t wait for spring in so many ways!
Thanks for this little spot of sunshine!
Darlene K.
Well, if it isn’t all about me today – LOVE IT! As far as the little smiley faces – they are just enamel dots or candy dots with a little ink smudge them! The forecast today was to be sunny but it is still that icky foggy gray day out there here. So this card is so fun to look at! If it was black instead of navy I could slap a Hawkeye sticker on it and give ti to Mike as he isn’t a happy camper either. Oh speaking of Mike, on the news they were showing photos of different peoples snowmen that made. One family had made Minions and even colored them with dye (I hope the yellow was dye). Mike looked at them sort of puzzled and asked what the heck are those and I sure wouldn’t want to run into whatever made all that yellow snow. I about fell off the couch laughing. He looked me even more puzzled and said whatever, and went back to reading his paper!
Back to the card, fits the challenge well and I will go check out the rest of them. This is a layout that even I could come up with something! I just love the yellow with navy or black. Definitely “happy paper” is a good name for polka dot paper.
The cover on the window just pulled off the navy in that one small spot and it came off with the scrapper. That was just weird. Thank goodness the driver’s side door opened so I could get in and start it and all that good stuff. I even dropped my my local demo and picked up my Dec order and catalogs. Mike put my yak track things back on my boots for me so Ted got a small walk today. Pretty icy but I walked partially in the ice crusted snow for traction, So he was satisfied and is taking a nap now. Maybe the little chewy marks on my knee caps can heal up a bit – my knees are at his level when I am on the couch and he nibbles at them when he gets mad or wants something. Try to explain the marks to the dermatologist!
Frustration today, your post yesterday and today didn’t come to my inbox – I had to google it again to get to your blog. Weird, probably operator error. Too bad I don’t have a color printer – I would have printed this out and put it where I could see it all the time! Thanks everyone!
Hey, Darlene – where in Iowa do you live? I am in Pella which is southeast of Des Moines. I am originally from Burlington though and my husband is from Knoxville.
This big sentiment is perfect for this sketch! Love the polka dots and bright colors! AndI cut my DSP up as well for the same reasons!
Normally I’m not fond of blue and yellow together but they look great here. I’ll have to rethink obviously. Thanks for the push.
Hi Chris – I live close to Dubuque.
Fresh and Fun Susan!
The yellow/black combo is dynamite Susan! And the sentiment is just perfect for this card.
I love your simple style. Your cards are easy to replicate for your customers! Bright and cheery as planned – a real show stopper!
