Good Morning!!! I am so happy that many of you enjoyed yesterdays post BUT….I have a confession – YOU STUMPED ME!!!! 🙄 Read through this post and we are going to play a game that (2) of you will win this card!!!
I sat down yesterday afternoon making the card for today and GUESS WHAT – I simply could not come up with a “Stepped Up Version” as the one that I did yesterday just was super (in my eyes). I love this below quote, so true!
I wish that you would have seen me showing John, I would pop down the steps and say what about this???….NOPE….back up the steps again, what about this???…..NOPE ~ and then finally I needed to listen to him…
“What is wrong with just the way it is” (darn he is a smart man!)
So the moral of this Stampin’ story is – if you like something and it works….DON’T FEEL GUILTY that it was sooooo easy to do! 😛
This is the part that you really want….the DIMENSIONS!
Well, here you go – if I were you I would Pin this picture for future reference. Paper, a great embossing folder, simple clean cuts….a bit of scoring = A great clean and classic card! I do hope that you try this!
There you go…the dimensions and an honest story. I tried using the White Shimmer paper….(didn’t like that)…I tried adding silver thread…(didn’t like that)…I tried adding water~coloring...(didn’t like that)…I tried adding a simple white bakers twine bow…(didn’t like that)…so, there you go ~ sometimes you just need to go with your “gut instinct” and say – I like it…I am DONE! 🙂
I do hope that this shows you how the “basics” that I always talk about just work! There are our “true blues” ~ now to a game so YOU can hopefully win this card!
I have (2) of them made and for the person that gets the answer right, I will send you this card. (you have 2 chances and if there are multiple correct answers, I will have my best critic John, pull numbers out of a hat)
These are FUN, random questions….but you know me, I tend to always throwing curve balls at you!!! Please leave me a comment with the 2 answers you think will get you this card!
- Yesterday I shared with you that John and I picked Blueberries…..HOW MANY QUARTS DO YOU THINK WE PICKED?
- You know that we live in the middle of no where….WHAT ANIMAL NOISE DO YOU THINK THAT WE HAVE BEEN HEARING THAT HAS MADE US HAVE TO TURN A FAN ON TO “tame the noise”?
Have a great day…and GO MAKE THIS CARD…If you do not have the embossing folder, WHY WAIT ?- hit that SHOP NOW button and have to on its way! Your basics always will be on your side…all of the supplies that I used are below!

It’s a really beautiful card. Maybe you already started with the stepped up version.
One thing to experiment with, which probably won’t improve this card, is brushing ink over embossed areas with a cheap, natural bristle paint brush. It’s a lovely, soft, fast, safe way to add color to embossing without ending up with splotches from adding ink directly from the ink pad. The Frugal Crafter shows this technique often, using Color Dusters, which are no longer available. I bought cheap brushes at the big box store, and they work great.
Well, I’ve picked blueberries and all I can say is–I’ll pick wild blackberries or raspberries all day without whining but put me in front of rows of blueberry bushes and I start dragging my feet like a kid who doesn’t want to take out the trash, so I say if the two of you managed 8 quarts, you deserve a medal, but I’ll bet you did more. As for the sound, judging from our summer of “surround sound,” I’ll put my money on cicadas. (Love the card! And I’m not surprised you couldn’t figure out how to “step it up.” Neither could I; it’s “just right” as is!)
I do love your simple card. The only thing I could think of to change would be to spray it with glimmer mist to give it some shine! It really adds a nice touch to any project. Now onto the questions. I guess that you picked 50 quarts of blueberries and the sound you are listening to could be a croaking frog~
I love the card, but just am so reluctant to use all that paper…five layers.
Yes, i know about punching out shapes, but then I don’t use the shapes. Hmmm!
For me, when I lived in the country, an owl could keep me awake. Relentless
hooting between owls times.
Forgot to add, that I think you and John picked 30 quarts of blueberries. Yum!
You can’t improve perfect, that is what I say about this card. I am casing it for an upcoming swap! I will say you picked 10 quarts of berries and you are hearing lots of crickets!
You started with the perfect card so why change it! My guess for blueberries is 22 quarts and the nighttime sound you hear is perhaps a fox (mating season). That is the “screams” we hear!
It is important to know when enough is enough. I too think the card is just perfect as it is. I have never picked blueberries, but have picked raspberries. My guess would be 15 quarts. Sometimes those berries can be as big as marbles! As for the night noise, my guess is it is an old screech owl. They can about drive one nuts. I don’t have the exact embossing folder your card was made from, but it has inspired me to keep it simple. Will go take a look at what I have to work with. Have a good Sunday.
Love the card. It is one I will case. My guess: 13 qts of blueberries and cicadas are keeping you awake
Susan, somethings just aren’t meant to be disturbed! My guess is you picked 15 quarts and the cicadas, or locusts, as we call them in the Midwest, are keeping you awake. This card was a wonderful thing to wake up too!
@ Dorothy J- in this case you could use both white and yellow cut outs on the same card. No waste here!
Not adding to your card was great as I think I’ve heard you say…”Less is best.”
15 qts. of blueberries
Owl
I think that you and John picked a total of 7 quarts of blueberries. The wild one seem to be smaller than the ones in the store. I think, because of the heat, that the noises that are bothering you are cicadas. Thanks for your beautiful card with the dimensions. Love it.
Sometimes simple is best! I made an embossed card recently and added chalk. But with all the layering and scoring, I think adding anything might offset the beauty of what you already have. Well, I am hearing that cicadas are an issue here for people that live near woods. My guess for the berries is 11 1\2 qts.
Susan….I loved your card as is too! I would like your opinion on whether a sentiment could be added to the front and where you might place it? I keep looking at it and do not see a spot I would want to hide.
Thanks!
I laughed when I saw “stumped” because yesterday I couldn’t imagine what in the world you could do to step up the card. I’ve been hearing cicadas so that is my guess. 4 qt. of blueberries.
Never have picked blueberry’s but my guess is 6 quarts and the noise is cicadas. Why step up a card when it is perfect as is.
I think you picked 11 quarts of blueberries and the sound of billions of crickets would drive me crazy too!
I think you picked 20 quarts of berries and the noise is from frogs
I was wondering how you could possibly step it up. I think it is gorgeous just the way it is and can’t wait to make a pile of them to have on hand. Yellow is my favorite color but I may experiment with other colors too. That’s the only way to change it up in my opinion. As far as blueberry picking I am going to say you and John picked 16 quarts…a flat for each of you. 🙂 I’ll be over for some muffins in the morning. LOL
I am going to guess the noise is from cicadas.
I think the noise is a group of bats and that you picked 12 quarts.
Love the card. How about 10 quarts of blueberries and maybe a coyote.
Love your card as it is! Very classic looking.
I am going to guess you & John picked 13 quarts of blueberries and the noise you are hearing are the cicadas, since I just read something about that.
I can see changing the colors on this card and making a set of them to give as a gift. They could be used for a variety of occasions! I might try a simple brush of color on the embossing but like it as it is too. I usually shoot for a gallon of blueberries by myself, so I’m guessing you two picked 12 quarts together–that’ll be a good freezer full for pies and muffins! I think cicadas too.
Great card as usual! Thanks for the dimensions! my guess for blueberries would be 13 quarts!
Is the noise mating frogs? That makes me put the pillow over my head at night! ( at least that is what I was told the noise was in my neck of the woods;)
Knowing how hard you work, I’m guessing 20 quarts. You’ve already baked muffins, pancakes, pie and froze some already and the I’m just waking up! hehehe! If it’s cicadas, I feel for you. One of my stamping friends, Carol, had them last year and every inch of her yard, driveway, house were covered. She said it was a nightmare! Good luck!
LOVE the card! Period.
This card is perfect, although I couldn’t figure out how you might “step it up”. I will be trying this, as I just received my embossing folders and using some Incolors.
Now for blueberry picking, four gallons and those darn cicadas are very annoying.
OK lets just stop it here and send Darlene K and I the cards – I was going to say 13 quarts – sounds more impressive than 12 quarts. Plus one of you had to out pick the other. Plus, those darn cicadas are so loud at times and I have been hearing them, so that is what I was going to say since they seem to go on forever. You know I am going to have to go make some blueberry muffins now!
Great card…….yep, I don’t think there is any need to improve it!! I like “clean & simple”.
26 quarts of blueberries – YUM!!
cicadas – can be very loud!
It is not our year for cicadas but those things are LOUD, so maybe that is what you are having to drown out. They are so nasty. They will fly right into you. My guess on blueberries is 17 quarts. If they are the wild ones maybe more than 17. I go to a place where the people grow them but you have to pick your own. That is about as “wild” as I get! Love having them on hand for blueberry muffins but I am not fond of blueberry jam or pie or ….
As for the card, perhaps you could do a step down version???? LOL It is really nice just the way it is. I guess if you really wanted to do something different to it you could put a little clear wink of stella on the flower — either just on the raised part, or on the debossed area. Just a thought. It is great just like it is though. Yes, that John must be a very smart man!
Love this card, Susan. I think you picked 7 1/2 quarts of blueberries and I think the cicadas were what made you turn on your fan. Hope I win this card…it is lovely.
Mellow yellow…beautiful Susan! Your card will make anyone smile just the way it is. I’ll guess 16 quarts that’s 4 gallons and as long as John carried them to your car that a good start for your first trip! (Should have told us how big your freezer is) as far as your noisy critters maybe a tree frog, they have a set of lungs that won’t quit.
I agree with many others and John that the card is perfect the way it is. I had wondered how in the world you could step it up. Beautiful just the way it is. I’ll say 14 quarts and cicadas. Thanks for a chance to win this stunning card. (I’ll be you have blue hands today and they are not from stamping!! lol)
Couldn’t wait to tune in today. I couldn’t imagine what you could do to step up Saturday’s card. It is lovely just the way it is. Less is more. It would be gorgeous in a variety of colors for a great set of notecards. I’ll say you picked 18 quarts of blueberries and the fan was needed to tame the noise from the cicadas. Thanks for the chance to win.
Beautiful card Susan. Hmmm.. I might have stepped it up by replacing the first Daffodil delight mat with black and then a small sentiment like “thanks” stamped in black in the lower left corner of the white embossed piece.
But I digress!
2 quarts
Rooster
Love the card. Yes, I just cased it but since I do not have the EF you used I used Wildflower Meadow EF. I’d say 20 quarts and the locusts are the culprits.
I’m going to guess 11 1/2 quarts and the animal I’ll guess is an owl?
I am going to make this card…just like you told me to! I think you probably picked 23 quarts of blueberries. Make jam…I love making jam this time of year. It’s basically what I do most of the summer as the fruits come into season..you could say that I’m really “jammin” all summer! I think that you are being annoyed by a bullfrog. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!
I liked the original yesterday and wondered what you would do to make it “better” — and obviously nothing was necessary as it’s awesome just as it is. I think you picked 10 quarts and you’re trying not to hear the locusts.
Eight quarts sound about right before heat stroke and stained teeth set in – And it must be the ole katydids that kept you guys awake!
Love this card!! You are right…don’t mess with perfection! Bet you picked at least 12 quarts of berries. Where we live in the desert, I would say coyotes keep you awake howling, but where you are, I would say probably cicadas…they can be so annoying!
I always love the simplicity of your cards! I also love blueberry picking and those luscious berries can certainly add up in no time. I think you may have picked 15 quarts. I am also thinking that the crickets may be keeping you awake!
I love to pick blueberries myself. I say you got 18quarts with 2 of you picking. I say the noise is an owl talking to another owl..I love this card I am going to make it. Thanks for all you do for us-“card makers”- I need all the dimensions and you provide them. Your friend in Texas.
I would guess the little tree frogs (we call the peepers) that can be really noisy once the sun goes down. I know other people have mentioned cicadas but even the year we had all three varieties come out (7, 13, and 17 year), I found those easy to block out and I kind of like that anyway. Without knowing the temperature outside, I will guess 18 quarts. Only because I am thinking about how many quarts you need to make jam and I figure if you were just eating them or making muffins a couple quarts would be more than enough, even if you froze some for later. But a pie or cobbler and a batch of jam and you are going to need far more than what I would be willing to pick! LOL!
We have a split decision…crickets or coyotes. I think you found a wonderful patch and picked 16 quarts of blueberries because you love to bake and cook. John is a smart man…I agree that you shouldn’t mess with perfection. Love your card just the way it is!!.
Apparently I was supposed to say “cicadas” instead of crickets. My son has corrected me. 🙂
I’m going to guess 25 quarts and deer!!! Your card is beautiful 🙂
My guess is cicadas is the noise you hear. I am guessing 17 quarts of blueberries. I agree the card is beautiful just the way it is.
You are a Blessings. Thank you for the measurements.
what about a little bit of wink of stella in the middle of the flowers? maybe crickets are making a racket, lol. and I think maybe you picked maybe 5 qt of blueberries
LOVE,LOVE,LOVE this card! My back would go at about 8 quarts x 2 = 16 qts of blueberries; natch it depends on how plentiful the bushes were AND how many you need to share them with. My limiting factor is always motivation!
Here the crickets and frogs make country music, but the cicadas make me turn the fans on HIGH. Wait, cicadas are technically insects. But it doesn’t matter, if you had 3 people entered, I would lose. Just wanted to tell you this is my favorite card I have seen anywhere for a long time. Thanks and tell John (though he knows it already)that he was right. Thanks for the dog photos..I love them! Have a rescue one at my house. He is SO spoiled!
