Here is to our weekend (2) day post. Today I am showcasing a super simple card and I hope that you will stop back tomorrow to see how I have “stepped it up!”.
Now if this little guy and this super simple watercolor card does not bring a smile to your face, we need to talk. As you know, I am bonkers over animals…just about every animal could have except a S _ _ KE (you fill in the blanks) – those critters and me are not friends!
This is from the stamp set, Bella & Friends and it is super sweet. The art work is so fun and the sentiments are also “spot on”.
There is really not much to say about this sweet card as it was nothing more that a stamp in the Black Archival Ink and then having a date with the Aqua Painter.
The best tip I can give you about using the aqua painter is to practice, practice and practice again.
I invite you to look at it this way because do you remember when you were trying to learn how to ride a bike….you were soooooo excited to master it but it took practice – this is the exact same thing with this technique….once you “get it, you have it” 😀
I also need to say that I do not consider myself at all a pro at watercoloring but one thing that I can say about it (well actually 3 things)
- It is fun
- It is relaxing
- It is rewarding
The ink colors that I used were Sahara Sand, So Saffron & Flirty Flamingo. I add additional of the same color to get darker shades . I also used our thick Whisper White paper, I do this 99% of the time because I will be honest with you, our watercolor paper is just “too off” in the brightness of white when layering on out white card stock and heck – this works and it a bunch cheaper.
One more look at this cute card….this one is flying West to someone…very, very special and I know that there will be a big smile on her face! I think that this sentiment is one that would be a super “pick me up ~ smile maker” to just about anyone. You can see that I added a super thin mat behind the water colored image in Soft Sky.
Envelope love…when in doubt – pull the DSP Stacks OUT! The Soft Sky Polka Dots was the perfect “pull together” for this sweet card. These packs are lifesavers as when you need a DSP that is a certain color…you always have a fix!
I offer these when I do Product Shares and yep….when the new catalog comes out, I will offer them again (assuming that they will be in the new catalog) but they truly are wonderful.
There you go! Sweet and oh so simple….do you like?????? I am curious, what do you think I will do tomorrow? (tee hee…..I think I might GET YOU on what it is) but leave me a comment and take a guess!
We all need a friend to bring us up when we might be a bit down and guess what – that is EXACTLY what I love about my blog and what I do – the relationships that have been built and the fun we have always brings be UP!!!!
Now go have a GREAT DAY!
This is just ADORABLE!!!! Hmmm, for tomorrow, adding clouds, trees? I don’t know, its so perfect as it is! As for that “S” word, I will always have to have at least one dog. I think mine keeps them from nesting here. She wants to play with everything that moves!
Thanks Ramsey…I truly think that the art work on this stamp set is what makes a fun card come together in a jif! In my eyes, any card that had a dog…is a heart card!
The recipient of this really fun card will be thrilled, Susan. I think you’ll add a little blue sky around Bella for tomorrow’s card. I love the Sky Blue layer behind today. Great coloring job.
I think that you will be smiling but I think you will like how I did the sky! I hope that you POP back and see! As always, many thanks for taking your time to leave me a comment!
It’s beautiful now…hard to imangine a stepped up version. Perhaps a 3D balloon and/or matting it on an angle…can’t wait to find out. Until tomorrow…..?
Hmmmmmmm….you will have to see! We are to get snow Monday/Tuesday – please be careful…..and we all hope that your rehab and knee are doing great. Chris R and I are in training to be your marathon cheerleaders
I wouldn’t be surprised if Phyllis made an appearance…. Love today’s version!
I did not think if that but…….that is a brilliant idea!
Beautiful touch of watercoloring and charming in every way!
Such a sweet, pick me up card for anyone. I guess more watercoloring for the background or ground, but with your comment, i don’t know! I think it’ll be totally different! can’t wait to see!
It is a great pick me up sentiment and image even if you are not a dog lover as an instant smile happens! Thanks for popping in.
Love your card and can’t imagine it any other way – love your three little dots placed so perfectly ! I am looking forward to seeing your stepped up version tomorrow.
My kids still tease me about my “dots” but what can I say….they are just ingrained in how I create. A simple 1-2-3 of dots adds so much in my eyes – I hope to see you tomorrow!
I can’t begin to guess how you will add to this card tomorrow. It is adorable as is! That being said, I’m sure I’ll love whatever you do tomorrow as well!
Hello my CA friend…..can we switch weather? It has become COLD again and I am ready for SPRING. Tkis stamp set is one that I am sure you would love to play with…were your ears burning – Jeanie and I spent the day together and we chatted about how talented you are!!!!
Thank you for mentioning the watercolor paper being “OFF” as far as mixing with Whisper White ! I love the thick CS ,but it does tax those trimmer blades !! Anyway I do not have a clue about the Sunday Step Up version . Maybe a polka dot balloon ? Possible additional mat underneath that sliver (LOVE ) of Sky Blue ???
More important …..I want to know what you bought at The Container Store ???? TEE HEE !!
You are just toooooo funny. I think you are talking about the upcoming road trip to the Container Store with Ramsey? Can you believe that she has not been to one yet….It is MY PLEASURE to break her in with the fun. There are 4 of us traveling together to go to Richmond and that is one of our stops….darn, I hope that we make it to Richmond.
You know me…type A here – I do like watercolor paper but ours just doesn’t match either the white or the vanilla so I just had to find a happy solution = use the regular card stock – works for me!
Oh Ramsey better check out their catalogs and site and have an idea of what she wants to focus on if you plan on going to any more stores! I can spend an hour just looking at the gadgets at the checkout counter! Wear comfy shoes and have a water bottle with you!
If and when I get out to Virginia etc I need to go to Richmond as a past medical resident and was a good friend is a big shot at VCU Medical Center chairing the PM&R Dept etc. Sorry to name drop here, I just am so proud of all his accomplishments in brain injury etc.
Well, never mind about The Container Store Haul report …..I forgot it isn`t until April that you were going . Oh well, I thought we`d get some ideas ,but I am an Amazon Gal anyway !
The puppy is adorable. I have found that using the watercolor pencils and the aqua painter are really a fun way to add dimension while adding color. M-m-m-m as far as tomorrow’s version of the card, maybe a “Wink of Stella” on the balloon.
Darn, I did not do that but that would have been perfect or also glossy accents would have been fun! I am thrilled that you are enjoying the watercolor pencils….it is fun to have different coloring methods…
I’ve always loved my Bella set, Susan, and you did such a wonderful job with it! Your painting is awesome…I love to paint things, too. Can’t wait to see your “Stepped Up” version…
Hugs!
Yeah….everyone needs a Bella Set and I am happy that the pups are i your house too! Please pop back tomorrow!
What an adorable card!! I am imagining the stepped up version with the soft sky polka dot DSP as the background layer and using so saffron for the mat. No matter what you do I am sure it will be every bit as cute as today’s version. Can’t wait to see 🙂
You are warm….very warm but I am excited to hear how you all like Sunday’s card! Thanks for “being in the house”
Bella is adorable for being a little dog. Hopefully she doesn’t have a Napoleon complex where she snaps and bites at bigger dogs. That’s what bigger dog owners call little dogs who don’t seem to know their place! We ran into this problem a couple of weeks ago. Poor Ted just was minding his own business walking down the sidewalk when 2 little ones came running at him trying to bite his nose, ears and feet. They were not on a leash like Ted was. He thought they wanted to play but they were actually biting. Your card is really cute with the soft colors you chose. A stepped version? A lot of fussy cutting for her to be popped up. Wasn’t there a gold trinket bow at Christmas time that could go on her collar or where the balloon is tied on to her? I think some soft clouds from the balloon set would be pretty. There is not a lot of room to put Phyllis in there. Otherwise, I have no idea and love it as is all warm and fuzzy. The bird is too small to have a googlie eye. I give up as I am worrying too hard on my combo St. Patrick’s Day/Birthday cards for a few people.
Oh no, POOR TED! To think he was just wanting to get some fresh air. Maybe it was Rosie that met up with him – she is a mess….total mess but I love her! You are know me way toooooo well….can’t wait to hear what you think! Jeanie and I spent the whole day together yesterday and had a blast. We commented on how fun it would be to road trip to you! It would be like Thelma and Louise heading across the country!
Love your card and this set. Regarding the s word, I won’t even try to convert you, but my daughter has a ball python named Bruce Springsteen and an albino Honduran milk snake names Coco Chanel. They are awesome!! Hey SU, are you listening? How about a “Bruce and Friends” set? Lol – never happen! Anyway, I’m a snake fan.
I wish that I could say I was and I truly think that I should get hypnotized to help me fear…..I have ALWAYS been like that and I can’t say why but it is what it is for me. One day I was mowing the lawn and one of them were there – I was soooo scared that I sat up on a fence post until someone came home and I will never forget that it was a PEEP and he said, what in the world are you doing – when I told him he just busted out laughing and said that poor thing is probably in the next state by now!
Hi Susan, yes this card is so cute! You coloring is always great. I have no ideas for tomorrow. All the more surprise. ??
Thanks Nancy….it is all about having the great stamp set….how can you go wrong?
I just found where my wiley aqua painters hid themselves so now I can practice, practice, practice and this sweet set is a good place to start. I might be a cat person but Bella had to come how with me as well.
