Happy Monday everyone! Brrrrrr….it is super cold on the East Coast and the wind yesterday was just bitter! The calendar is flipping way to fast and this week is going to ZOOM!
I have been trying to get all of my posts in order so when my “peeps” come home this week I can enjoy and cherish the time with them!
This is the 1st year in 5 years that my oldest son has been home for Thanksgiving as he has lived in China and he is super excited to have all of his favorite Thanksgiving foods…I have been trying to stock up on everyone’s favorites…
Let’s get some yummy comments going – what is your “must have” foods on Thanksgiving?…leave me a comment with your top 3 choices cause’ let’s face it…we don’t have just 1…here’s my must haves!
- Mashed Sweet Potato with Marshmallows
- Pork and Sauerkraut
- Pumpkin Pie
O.k. – I am sure that many of you are not familiar with #2 and/or many of you probably do not like it but let me tell you…there is nothing like Pork & Sauerkraut – love it….yummers as I say – can’t wait!!!
Let’s get to today’s post as the saying is perfect for today conversation of our favorite Thanksgiving foods!
YUM…homemade from the heart!
This stamp is from the Friendship Preserves Stamp Set and yes, true to my challenge of showcasing products that are on the wonderful Holiday Sale…this is one of them!

One thing that I do every year for several families…I make Fresh Coconut Cakes and Carrot Cakes… they are my trademark favorites with my friends – and I alternate each year which one they get…I thought that this would be a super cute card to tie on the box of love!
I always use those great White Boxes for Cakes…tie a beautiful wide ribbon bow and this will be perfect to tie on the box with a heartfelt note!!!
Sorry I rambling today – here’s the scoop!
- The Card is a 4 X 4 card…and the designer series paper is from the Season of Style, the size is 3 3/4" square! I adore this and actually just had to order more…I love it and have been making so many projects with it!
- I stamped the image twice, once in Cherry Cobbler and the other in Old Olive and then using the BEST little scissors in the world, paper snips to cut out the YUM! Popping it up with some stampin’ dimensionals…the fun is happening!
- This Stamp Set coordinates with the Window Framelits and since the Festive Paper Piercing Pack is also on sale…the “Peanut and Butter” thing is happening again!

- I “poked” every 3 holes…isn’t it amazing that something so simple can be so effective! Stampin Up! is offering this as a bundle on the super sale – you can purchase the stamp set and the piercing pack for just $17.43….I say WOOT-WOOT!
- I punched a hole in the upper left corner and tied a bow (wow – this seems weird to me as I am bow challenged) and then also added a piece of Crumb Cake Seam Binding Ribbon and Cherry Cobbler Twine so I can tie this around my big bow on the cake box!
That's it – easy-peasy…
simple little tricks to make a simple card =
making someone simply smile…
(now say that phrase 3 x’s)
Handmade gifts to me are the best! I hope that I have inspired you to make your own special cards when you give gifts of love to your family and friends!
This is a exciting and special week…I have lots of great goodies for you all week long! Let's have a great week together! Thanks for popping by and I thank you on this week of giving thanks for popping by, and continuing to inspire me each and everyday to do the things i love to do!
Until tomorrow!!!

Susan,
Good morning. Love pork and sauerkraut. I also like hominy and pretzel salad. Enjoy your time with your family.
Maureen
YEAH! The 1st person that commented likes Pork and sauerkraut – can’t wait! What is pretzel salad?
Pork and sauerkraut with mashed potatoes is deliciou any time but at our house it is a New Year’s day tradition (PA Dutch) to bring good luck for the coming year. Happy Thanksgiving!
My favorites are anything my MOM cooks but she ALWAYS fixes me her slaw, turkey & dressing & her red velvet cake! But all of it is delicious! Thank you Susan for sharing your awesome creations! Never disappointed!
Susan,
I was wondering about the piece of plexiglass that you have to “conserve” grid paper. I too save mine! Where did you get the plexiglass? It seems like a great idea. Thanks so much for your blog. You have wonderful ideas. I look forward to each and every post.
Mary
Yes, well pork and sauerkraut is a fav at this house too, but not on any special day. My three favs for Thanksgiving are that great turkey drumstick, stuffed mushrooms and turnips. Your card is great. I never thought to skip holes for a whole new design. Ha. Ha. So happy for your family being together. I am “thankful” for all your help. 🙂
My 3 “must-haves” for Thanksgiving are very simple. They are turkey (usually the breast meat), homemade stuffing and gravy. I wish you had asked for my favorite 6 things because then I would have added mashed potatoes, turnip and apple pie. Yummy!
Let’s start with this yummy 4″x4″ card – so fresh and pretty. While I love pork and kraut, it’s not a Thanksgiving food for me. Neither is coconut cake – but don’t think I didn’t see that for a moment. Coconut cake is my absolute favorite! My must haves for Thanksgiving are (1) cornbread dressing – YUM! YUM! YUM! (2) pecan pie and (3) sweet potato pone (with shaved sweet potatoes, orange juice and candied pecans. Ii’m hungry now.
Hi Susan!
I LOVE pork & sauerkraut too! This was my main dish request whenever my hubby and I went to visit his Mom! Never had it at Thanksgiving though….
My Top 3 are mashed potatoes & gravy, carrot salad, and pumpkin pie!!
Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Coconut cake is my fav cake too….my favs are stuffing (any kind), roasted brussel sprouts w/bacon and pecan pie…as always love the card! Have a merry turkey and happy cranberry sauce day!
I love the card Susan. My favorite three foods are:
1. dressing
2. orange buttermilk congealed salad
3. turnip greens
I am so happy for you and your family that you can all be together! That is wonderful! My 3 faves are my mother’s mashed sweet potatoes with pineapple, tiny marshmallows, and maraschino cherries in it; homemade stuffing; and pumpkin pie. Of course, no one (except me) eats sweet potatoes made like that anymore so I can’t take over making it. My sister-in-law Mary makes the best stuffing, (which she calls dressing), I’ve ever had and I can’t seem to replicate it. Kind of like casing cards! Happy Thanksgiving! Nancy B
P. S. This is Pretzel Salad:Jello Pretzel Salad (I substitute Splenda for the sugar.)
Ingredients
2 1/2 cups pretzels (crushed)
3 tablespoons brown sugar
3/4 cup butter
1 (6 oz) pkg strawberry jello (I use 2 4 oz. pkgs. of sugar free jello)
1 10 oz. pkg. frozen strawberries or small container (16 oz) sliced fresh strawberries
1 ( 8 oz ) pkg cream cheese
1 cup sugar
8 ounces cool whip
Instructions
1. Combine pretzels, brown sugar, and melted butter and press into a greased 9 X 13 pan. You can use more butter if the crust isn’t sticking together and make the pretzels more crushed than I did. Bake @ 350 for 10 minutes.
2. Make jello according to directions and add the strawberries. Refrigerate until partially set. *If it is not set enough it will leak through your cream cheese layer and make your pretzels soggy.
3. Beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Blend in cool whip. Spread over cooled crust make sure you spread completely to the edges to create a seal so your jello doesn’t leak through. Pour jello over cream cheese layer. Refrigerate. Yum! Nancy B
Love the card, unfortunately, haven’t done much with that stamp set, guess I need to work on that:). I’m not a big turkey person, really like ham, twice baked sweet potatoes, and my Dad’s chocolate chip cookies and homemade dinner rolls. And pork and sauerkraut is great, any time of the year:)
Well I grew up just 20 minutes from where the Pilgrims docked so we have a very traditional old fashioned Thanksgiving dinner. It is the only time of the year that I don’t serve stuffing from the box and actually toast and butter the bread and make my grandmas recipe for stuffing and go all out with homemade everything. (Everything but hunt down and shoot that turkey. LOL) Dinner is turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce or salad, corn, squash, turnips, onions, and pumpkin pie for dessert.
Now what I want to know, is what is in the jar that looks so yummy?
I know you will have a super Thanksgiving this year with your family. P.S. Carrot cake is my favorite!!! 🙂
Hi Susan , first want to wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving !!
Now been loving all your projects , and this cad is BEAUITIFUL ,
Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes , I’m filling much better, thank god …
I’ll be back real soon. Trying already ….
Hugs frenchie
Oh Nancy, your pretzel jello salad sounds delicious! I may add that to my dinner this year. It’s always fun to add something new. Thanks for sharing!
Oyster dressing, cranberry orange relish, and my mother-in-law’s chocolate pound cake
Hi:
Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family Susan and all of your followers. My favorites: Turkey Breast, Sweet Potatoes with marshmallows, Homemade Cranberry Sauce.
Read your blog every day & love your enthusiasm, inspiration, directions, and, of course, your cards:)
I want to thank you for the “Mini Muffin Bags & tags”. I love them and will surprise my family with their favorites tucked inside. At first I wasn’t sure I won, as there was a comment from “Mary Ann H” and then I received the gift today and also my order. You must have “TWO” Mary Ann H’s as customers. Sorry to the other Mary Ann H, as I read her comment thanking you & waiting for her prize.
Every one have a happy, healthy & safe Thanksgiving. Thanks again Susan.
Hi Mary Ann.
I am also MaryAnn H. Sorry you did not receive the prize from Susan. I thought I had won, but then saw your comment thanking Susan and anxious to get the Mini Muslin Bags.
Today I received the bags from Susan. Looks like she has two Mary Ann H’s as followers.
Again, I am sorry you were not the recipient of the bags.
Have a Happy, Healthy Thanksgiving.
Lovely card. Thanks for so many good ideas. And, I know sons are so good to see again after a time away. Hug him tight! My must have is mince pie, and mom’s orange marshmallow candied yams! Can’t find mince pies in stores here on the west coast any more though. Gotta make them tomorrow. Be sure to get Mom’s recipes when you can so the family has them. Happy Day!
Yummy card indeed! The jam or whatever besides it looks pretty yummy too. The card is great and I could see me using that a lot but I still have a lot more thing on my wish list ahead of that.
I loved my mom’s sauerkraut and pork but that was not for a special occasion. Mine, just doesn’t taste as good as hers did. I am a turkey lover, white meat please. I don;t have any super favorites but I make a sweet potato dish that has brown sugar and pecans on top like a topping. I love pumpkin pie but my husband seems to favor sweet potato pie or my chocolate pecan pie. I don’t know yet if we are eating at home by ourselves or going to my in-law’s. We seem to have green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy and a dressing or stuffing. I have not hit upon the ideal recipe for the dressing yet. I do enjoy a cranberry orange relish and then mix the leftover with cream cheese and put it on my turkey sandwiches. Now, that is pretty darn yummy! My mom always made a pumpkin pie and a mince meat pie (not the real meat/fat stuff but the raisin version). I like coconut cake but never make it. Now, carrot cake is my absolute favorite cake! We still usually have pie instead of a cake.
I loved hearing what everyone has. My step mother-in-law usually has creamed corn or a corn casserole too. I sometimes take a squash casserole when we go there for dinner. Well, now that I am hungry I had better move along!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Everyone be safe too. The weather sounds sort of iffy in some parts of the country. I, for one, am grateful for all my cyber friends!
I’m hungry after reading all these comments. I’m not fond of turkey so I was pleased to grow up and get away from the forced traditional dinner. Last year we had dinner at a hole-in-the-wall traditional coastal Mexican restaurant (I had shrimp) and this year we’ll be eating at a restaurant that will have the traditional fare along with Hatch green chili pot roast and mac & cheese. When we don’t go out to eat we love to have cold pizza, cold beer and watch football. We don’t believe in working hard or stressing out on days off work! I do love me some pumpkin pie cheesecake though and made one this past weekend.
