I am a huge animal lover…and when a losing a "family member" as I feel dogs (and all animals) become members of your family…it is hard – and there are no words to comfort but "I'm Sorry…."
You have heard me many times before post about my LOVE for Stampin' Up!….my passion I have….and the feeling of being "full and blessed" to have been able to meet so many incredible people both in person and in "cyber space" through my blog….
Chris R. is a regular follower of my blog and I am proud to call her my friend. She too is a Stampin' Up Demonstrator and she is one that POPS by just about everyday and leaves a great and usually funny comment!
We have never met in person and I can truthfully say that she is the only person I know in that lives in Iowa! This is what I love about Stampin' Up – you get to meet and develop relationship as grow as a person!
We email each other as she is a huge animal lover and her dear Henry has been sick…I noticed the past several days that I have not heard from Chris and I even said to John on Saturday night….."I hope Henry is o.k." - (John even knows who Henry is)!!!
I then popped in the computer and she sent me a long email detailing how the little guy was….and then yesterday I hopped on-line in the afternoon and saw the sad subject line and my heart dropped!
Needless to say, I switched my "posting gears" and went to my craft area and knew in my heart I needed to create a special card for Chris…and I think I did it.
Henry….I hope that you are playing in doggie heaven
and of you run into my dear Lucy –
please introduce yourself – she's a ton of fun!
Let's get to the card!
- I knew I could make a dog bone! I know that we have all seen the incredible "Paw Print" sympathy cards…..I just wanted to do someting different! I figured a dog bone could be made with circles and a strip of paper….and here you go! The 1" circle punch was my go-to! the middle part os 1 1/8" X 4".
- Do you see the "brown mat" – that is the MUST HAVE Silicone Craft Sheet….why???? it is perfect when you are using adhesives any excess….just rubs right off….and it is a DREAM when you are using hot glue!!! I say a big woot-woot!
- I used the liquid multipurpose glue to adhere the bone or "template" together….I like this adhesive when I want a little "wiggle room" – I used this and traced it on a piece of Crumb Cake and then used the paper snips to cut it out!
- The card is the good old A-2 card size and then I cut another piece of Very Vanilla just a "smidge smaller" – a "smidge" to me is 1/8"" and then using the envelope punch board, I corner rounded all edges!
- The sentiment came from the MUST HAVE stamp set, So Sorry, as face it…..we sometimes need this and the different sentiments are great!

- I stamped it with one of my all time favorites – soft suede – and then I cut it out with the Chalk Talk Framelits….and then cut out another one in soft suede to "frame it"!!!! LOOK AT THIS….close….AS YOU WILL SEE WHERE THE PAW CAME FROM!!!!

- Now to the paw….I used the small heart punch and then the "teeny tiny" inside of one of the chalk talk framelits!
- In between the layers, I did use my stampin' vitamins….stampin' dimensionals to give the "center stage" this card deserves!!!! (don't skimp on these – for just $3.95) – it really DOES make a difference and these gems are THE BEST on the market!
Well….there you go! I hope that you keep this post in your mind….It is so simple to create and once you get the "template" you will be able to whip this card together in no time!!!!
In closing 2 things……1st – Chris…I am truly sorry for your loss…..he was your buddy…your friend….your "child"…..keep the fun memories alive – I know I am….I LOVED hearing the "Henry" stories!
2nd.…I thank you……
Yesterday I was the guest stamper for Mary Fish and WOWZERS as I say! My BLOG hit the "high" – and I thank you…..I truly have not had the opportunity to go through the comments but I will do so as I only work a 1/2 of day on Monday's….so hopeful tomorrow I can read them! I am sooooooo glad that you like the post, and as I said – I am going to do one later this week with the 3 X 3 gift enclosures! WOOT-WOOT
Please subscribe to my blog……it is under the catalog……just enter your email and PRESTO – you are good to go for a daily dose of inspiration and tips!!!!!
This has been a CRAZY weekend for us! Our Farm is on the market and on Friday at 9 p.m. we had a Realtor call us for a showing on Sunday at 1 p.m. – YIKES – who in the world would want to come and see remote property with a ton of snow?!?!?! John is in full swing of Tax Season… Well….we pulled it together…..
I deeply thank you for popping by – my blog is something that I would have never thought I could do…..as I am "computer challenged" but I find it rewarding, a way to "get to know you" and a way that I can do what I love to do…..inspire!
Please feel free to leave Chris a comment……I know that she would deeply appreciate and cherish your words…..and pop back tomorrow as it's my wonderful Dad's 83rd birthday!!!!!
Until tomorrow…..

Oh Chris, I am so sorry. I truly know the emotions. Our family lost three dogs “children” this past year. You can Google “Rainbow Bridge”. It is a beautiful poem. Take care and take one day at a time. 🙂
Chris I am so sorry for your loss! We had a dog a long time ago when my children were young and it was heartbreaking to lose her so I know what you are going through. Susan, OMGosh you are truly a talented women. I love the dog bone!!! I certainly will case this card. Inky hugs, Terry~~
Chris I am so so sorry for your loss. Dogs are truly a part of our families and it is devastating when they die. I know Henry loved being part of your family and that he was a lucky dog to have you. Susan I love the bone. We are an animal family too and my daughter works at a vet so I will have many opportunities to case this.
Chris, I am sorry for the loss of you beloved Henry. I hope all your good memories of him will comfort you!
Susan, your card is calm and peaceful while being touching and wonderful! Another winner! Thank you for sharing the template idea!
Cyberhugs!
PS–Susan, I emailed you during the time you must have been rushing around organizing for your showing. I have a question about how the hostess credit works when you use a hostess code. Thanks!
I lost my fuzzy buddy of over sixteen years just this Valentine’s day. I am still a mess on the inside, but I am trying to be strong on the outside. It hurts terribly. This is the first pet that I have lost. I hope that my little friend Skippy meets up with Henry and Lucy in heaven for a lovely romp through the grassy fields!! Hugs to you and to Chris!
Chris, my heart goes out to you over the loss of your sweet Henry! As we begin to celebrate our Lab, Doree’s 11th birthday this week, I realize how precious each day is with her!! I’d like to think that Henry is up in Heaven romping with our Dear Bingo, who we lost 11 years ago! Take comfort in your many memories and in the many prayers going up for you.
Susan, as I am such an animal lover, this card is a real keeper!! I will def CASE but hopefully won’t have to use much! Thanks again for your inspiration amidst your busy schedule!
Oh Chris ! My deepest sympathy to you because I have lost pets also through the years . And Cynthia this is for you too !
Susan …wow ! I love this bone and yes I will copy it because my daughter`s family dog ran away last week and no luck finding him . Come home ,Cleatus !!
Two more comments …#1 I love your detailed descriptions of card prep . #2 I am a HUGE fan of SU Dimensionals …they are the best .
Brian King did a post last year on how you find those little white thingies that are on top all over the house ! So funny !
Great post as always !
Susan, what a great card. Thank you for sharing this card with al of us. Thank you also for the idea to make a sample out of it. I will gladly do this. I want to tell you Chris, I am so sorry for the loss of your wonderful friend and very special dog Henry, I lost my beautiful bulldog Katrina 5 years ago. Katrina was a special dog because we adopted her as a police rescue dog. The creep that had her had 14 dogs and they were using bulldogs, pugs, an d Pit bulls dogs for drugs money and for fighting. Thankfully Katrina was never bred or fought. We had her for almost 5 years. Katrina did not like loud noises because where she was kept as a young dog. A landscaping truck came down our street and Katrina ran after it. Katrina got caught under the tires. We miss her so much. Katrina and God sent us another beautiful Bulldog named Rosie. We are so lucky to have her. I know that Henry was so loved by you and your family. Please tell Henry to find Katrina they will have fun with each other and all the other dogs. Thank you Susan. Happy stamping, Ellen Hinds
My heart goes out to her, as we are slowly seeing our pug aging and going blind. I love the paw . Great idea for the Chalk Talk Framelits. I saw another paw but the one you created is nice and small. Love it!
What a special card to send to Chris, she will love it. It’s so very hard to lose our fur children.
Chris, I am so sorry for your loss of Henry. They truly are a part of the family. Our Drago is showing her age and we are not looking forward to that day when we have to say good. May God comfort you. Susan, I love your card. I will have to make that template. Thank you for sharing and I wish you the best in selling your farm. Have a wonderful week.
You have such a BIG heart Susan. I’m sure Chris will appreciate this card and my heart goes out to her. It is not easy to lose your fur baby! Great card and hugs to Chris! Thanks for sharing with us!
It looks like I’m going to be making one of these cards tonight! I just found out that my best friend’s dog suffered a stroke over the weekend and they are taking her in today to put her down. So sad! Her mommy is going to miss the long walks outside with her. She was old and they knew it would happen someday but, you’re still never prepared. Your timing for this card was just right for me. Thank you for your inspiration every day!
Susan you are a very thoughtful, caring person and your card for Chris is just perfect to show how much you care about what she is going through. The loss of a pet (family member) is devastating to say the least!
I still follow you faithfully myself but haven’t been leaving comments as of late! You truly do such great cards that provide a lot of inspiration for us all! I loved seeing you spotlighted on Mary’s site as well!!
Chris, I don’t know you but we have two things in common. I live in Iowa also – Burlington area – and we also lost our little Miki a few weeks ago. My eyes have tears in them as I think of the pain you are feeling. I hope you find comfort in the memories you have of your special Henry. Take good care.
I really like this card, plain and simple and could be used for a welcome to the family for so done adopting a new pet. Going to make a template of this for future uses.
Chris, I am so sorry for your loss! It is hard especially when they are in your family for a long time! I hope you and your family find comfort in the memories that you have of Henry! My family has lost 2 this year! Both of them were getting pretty old for dogs and was in a lot of pain! Watching them suffer is also difficult so I find peace in knowing they are no longer suffering and the fond memories of them both!
Susan, again you find the perfect card for everyone! No matter what it is! I just love to see what you come up with everyday! I am one of those who doesn’t leave a lot of comments but I just wanted to say thank you for all you do and for being so compassionate to your viewers! Even when times are difficult! I know I am not alone in saying that we truly appreciate all you do for us!
Thank you Susan for the opportunity to express our sympathy to a fellow blog follower on the loss of her special furry friend. Our pets are truly part of our family. Chris,I am so sorry for your loss.
Susan, thank you for this great template! I’m happy to have it, as you know I’m a big animal lover myself.
And to Chris, I so understand what you are going through. We lost our precious 16 year old Shih Tzu, Puffy, over the summer. I still think of her almost daily.
Oh Susan and everyone – just when I didn’t think I could shed another tear – this brought a flood of tears. Henry was a very ornery 6 year old basset hound we adopted from a rescue league. He was a part of our family for 4 years. We couldn’t have any kiddos of our own so we had dogs since my husband was a teacher for many years and some of his students would come stay with us when times were rough at home.
I thought I would just pop in expecting a spring flower card to chase away the snow and cold. I was so surprised but then again I shouldn’t have been I guess. The card looks so amazing and I will cherish it for ever. I am so glad you included directions so I can make some. I think the vets would love these cards rather than the ones they buy and send.
Dayle, by any chance were you an Adams? I am from Burlington originally but live in Pella now. My parents were Marge and Al High. I was in the same class as Melanie (if you are and went to Oak Street too).
Aw, this is such a sweet sympathy card for Chris. 🙂 I found out about Henry, too, with the email, and my heart hurts for Chris and Mike. Poor Henry. He had so much going on with his health as of late.
Thank you for sharing your card with us, Susan. 🙂
