O.k – I know all of you well enough by now…you are looking at this and saying –
WOWZERS – THIS IS HARD…THIS IS soooooo un-Susan…
Hang tight! This is a great card and it is a card that is really not hard…you just need to follow it like a map! When you think of it as a map….it will work – you always end up at the destination that you are going for!
You know that I love odd size cards…and I made a custom 5" square envelope for it using the Envelope Punch Board…do you remember I shared with you that I forgot to take a picture of my dear friends Jeanie's card for the Spring Card Swap!?!?!?!?
Well…we took a class making this card and she was determined to make it into an A-2 Card so she could swap! Well…she did it and you will see her "beauties" at the end of the post!
It is a hard card to get a good picture of…but trust me – when it is in you hands…you will have the BIGGEST smile on your face out of pure pride and joy! It is a great card that can be adapted in many ways!
Let's go….today I am going to do this super easy…..listing the paper and sizes right off the bat!
- Very Vanilla – Use the Square Framelits Scalloped frame for the outer edge…(you can see it "peek" out)….another piece at a 3 3/4" square for the inside of the card.
TIP ALERT: – The Square Framelits …I number them (I call #1 the smallest …then outward!) Doing it this way makes it easy when referring to sizes!
- Baked Brown Sugar – 4 1/4" X 8 1/2" and then scored at 2 1/8" and then flipped around to 2 1/8" to the other side! Balanced ends of the card will make perfect sense to you later on! Fold and use your bone folder for crisp edges!
- DSP – Retro Fresh Paper – a 2 3/4" square and then cut out with the #4 framelit! I also used this paper to line the envelope!
- Tangerine Tango – 3" square and cut it with the #5 square framelit to mat the DSP!
- Coastal Cabana – Cut a 4" square for the inside mat and then another 4" square but put it through the Big Shot Using the #5 and #7 framelits (remember…the smallest is #1 – see picture!) The circle for the cupcake is the 1 3/4" punch and then I did my "Susan dashes" in th white gel pen!
You can see that I used the Create a Cupcake Stamp Set...and using the fun colors of the DSP…a smile is on your face! How can a cupcake not bring a smile! The Cupcake Punch makes it a cinch!

TIP ALERT AND HOW IT COMES TOGETHER:
- For the "outer frame" in Coastal Cabana.…1st fold the card together and then place a "thin" strip of Mono Glue to the "outer side of the right of the Coastal Cabana Square"…..center it and adhere. (You can see in the picture that the left side of the Coastal Cabana is NOT adhered!)
- Go to the Tangerine Tango square that has the "cup cake" – place a "thin" strip of Mono Glue to the "left side of the Tangerine Tango Square" (the right side of this piece will not have any adhesive)
WHEW… – fold it together and IT WORKS!
All I can say is…try it..and if you need my help = please email me! I will do my best to help you! This card is one of those "Peanut Butter and Jelly" things I talk about – (once you get it…you get it!)
I must admit…this has been a hard one to try to "put into word" but I do hope you try it! !
I lined the envelope using the envelope punch board for a 5" square card WOOT-WOOT!!! What a great tool! Just look for the size of card you are making…follow the gude and presto – you can make your own envelope!
This is a great picture of an angle of the card! It is a fun card and one that I hope you try! I know that Vincent will have a HUGE smile on his face when he sees it!!!
Now let's get to Jeanie's card for the swap…..it's a keeper! Remember – this is an A-2 card size!
I hope that Jeanie will share with us the dimensions to make an A-2 card….I am sure she will as she is one talented person!
Today…you will get a double-whammy from me! Remember that I said that I had hopes of doing something fun for John….well…it is below 32 again and……it's not going to happen but "Plan B" is in effect!
Until later today!

Great cards and very good explanation. Today is my daughter Meaghan’s 30th birthday. I made her a card, but truly like this one better. I have until 6 p.m. to make her a new one. 🙂
Yes, I LOVE your card!…but for those of us who don’t have the envelope punch board to create envelopes for the odd size cards (therefore the oddsized cards themselves are out), I sure hope your friend Jeanie will share the sizes of cardstock she used etc. I really love the things you could do with this card. Thanks again.
What a fun card and your photos really are helpful with the instructions and details ! Thank you !
I have never tried writing directions; however, I will give it a try….It is very simple to adapt to make the A2 card:
Card base is 5 ½ x 8 ½ scored in landscape position at 2-1/8 on each end.
To make the frame (mine is in black): Cut 2 pieces of 4×4 CS using the #5 and #7 square framelits together. Glue the 2 frame pieces together with liquid glue. This makes a sturdier frame to open and close your card. *Note: You do not use the 2 square pieces from inside the frame.
Cut 3 x 3 Very vanilla CS with #5 square framelit.
Cut 2 ½ x 2 ½ DSP (mine is polka dot) with #4 framelit.
Attach frame to card base (using liquid glue) only along the right side. This will allow the card to open.
Adhere DSP to Very vanilla and place inside frame. Attach to card base using adhesive only along the left side.
I stamped flower from Flower Shop stamp set with black Stazon and punched out. Attached to flower punched from fancy flower punch using dimensional. Punched another flower from Boho blossoms punch and added candy dot in the middle. Heat embossed sentiment on bottom right.
Inside card dimensions: Black CS 5 ½ x 4,
Very Vanilla CS 5 ½ x 3 ¾ . I also stamped the flower from the flower shop stamp on the very vanilla in the bottom corner to tie it all to together.
For variation used on other card using the scalloped square framelit: Cut a scallop frame from a piece of very vanilla card stock and then cut it in the middle using the trimmer to remove 1 scallop. This allowed it to fit on each side of the card base. Attach to card first then follow same directions as above.
WHEW!!! Susan, I appreciate you all the more for all the time and effort you put in to giving us directions every day! I hope these directions are simple enough so others can follow. 🙂
Ooops! Inside card dimensions should be:
5 1/4 x 4 in black, 5 x 3 3/4 in vanilla
Simply gorgeous ladies!
These cards take the cake – sorry, I had to put something on here about the cupcake! Jeanie’s card is truly amazing! Thank goodness I don’t have the square fraelits yet so I can’t make this – I am sure it will drive me nuts until I get it right. So what sanity I have still remains intact for a bit longer! You better believe I am keeping these directions and will eventually give it a try because this is one amazing card! I don’t have the cupcake set either now that I think about it. Practice makes perfect so I have until December to get this nailed down for a friend of mine! Both did a good job of explaining it so we can take it step by step without running a video back a zillion times! Hats off to direction writers every where – writing directions isn’t as easy as it seems. Thanks again Susan for a great swap. So many great cards, so little time!
Love this card! Like Susan said, ” It looks harder than what it is.”
I was introduced to SU in ’99 and was HOOKED! My cards have advanced tremendously, yet I have NOT! Although I have had a number of friends and family ask me why I don’t sell it, what Susan does everyday and what Jeanie JUST did, is reason enough for me to be a “follower”! LOL
I too make odd shaped cards. Although I don’t have a SU envelope board, I have been making my own “odd shaped envelopes” for years. Its really very easy but I am NOT good at explaining these kinds of things either, so if Susan wants to email me her addy I’ll send her a sample w/instuctions. Maybe it will help…
