Whew…I feel like it has been such a long week (actually it WAS a very long week and I am glad it is behind) Our power was restored late yesterday afternoon and I could hardly wait to regain a bit of normalcy! WOWZERS, was the house HOT and well….we sure do have a clean refrigerator and freezer!
Today's card is how I feel – HOORAY! HORRAY!
Daisey Mae was the PERFECT PROTECT PIG and she is happy that the air-conditioning is on and she has given all house watch responsibilities to the dogs…she has done her job and now she need to catch up on her beauty piggy rest!
I sure hope that you missed me as much as I have missed my daily blogging! Feeling guilty is an understatement…I truly missed creating, playing around and inspiring you! I think that you will find this card fun.
Ready…let's go! I will say that the thrill of heat embossing is still so special as the first time I ever did it…at the end of this post I will share with you some tips that made making this card easy.
- The base of the card is Crushed Curry cut to a note-card size 3 1/2 X 5 and then I made the matching envelope with the help of the Envelope punch board. (makes it so easy)
- The Very Vanilla is a "smidge smaller" – (that is 3 3/8 X 4 7/8) and the I used my handy ruler and pencil to find the 1/2 way mark…drew a faint line and also a line 1/4" from the bottom
- After prepping the paper surface with a quick swipe of the Embossing Bubby I stamped the image with the versa mark and then used the Crushed Curry Embossing Powder and heat tool to do the magic!
- I am lovin' out new Designer Series Paper and this one is one of my favorites as I like the fact that is compliments with Very Vanilla – The Flashback DSP! Remember, click here to see and take advantage of the buy 3 get 1 free with the DSP Papers! The perfect time to stock up!
- Because I had a significant amount of "very vanilla" space, I thought that this would the perfect way to show case the DSP. I know that many of you are afraid of using bold prints of DSP on the body of your card…but what do you think of this? I think it is as clean and classic as it comes! The height of this is 2".
- You have heard me say many times before that I adore the Stampin' Trimmer, well this is a PERFECT example of why! These slivers of Real Red are just 1/8" and was a cinch using the trimmer. True I could have matted this piece of DSP on Red, but I wanted to teach you that this method works great. I used the Sticky Strip and left just a little overhang to adhere the red…BINGO – adhesive worked double time and on the card it goes!
- The envelope was jazzed up with lining the outer part of the envelope flap! You can see that I cut the bottom of the flap straight after making it with the envelope punch board (sometimes I just like mixing things up!!!)
Well…I hope that you say HOORAY!HORRAY! to this card and I hope that it has inspired you to take a sentiment and use it multiple times and great a fun and simple card!
Please do not be afraid to use DSP on your card fronts…how about challenging yourself this week to try it…it's like the old commercials for "Life" cereal…."TRY IT…YOU MIGHT LIKE IT"
As promised, here are a couple of tips and tricks that made this card so much easier for me.
- The stamp-a-ma-jig makes lining up things sooooo much easier – just make a commitment to like this black piece of plastic…it really is a great tool.
- The Silicone Craft Sheet is a dream…no more sticky fingers when using the "green glue" and like this project…the sticky strip peeled right off and it did not loose and if its "stick power"
- The Stampin' Trimmer…no excuses…a must have tool – we all have a birthday every year.(make sure you order and extra set of blades and the replacement cutting mat)
- When I heat emboss, I like to have a set of assorted sizes of paint brushes. ( I use a coupon from the craft store and I purchased the assorted sizes as you can have a very teeny, tiny brush up to a wider one. You will be amazed at how handy they are.) When you get the embossing powder where you do not want it to be, it is a breeze to flick it off before you use the heat tool!
That's it my friends…I hope that you enjoyed having me back – I know that I sure am a "Smiling Susan"…remember to click here or hit the shop now button to purchase any SU goodies and especially take advantage of the DSP paper sale!
Thank you for your patience with my "lack of power" (heck – our little street made the front page of our local paper) as we live out in the country….and people less than 1/4 of a mile had power…It was a journey…it was an adventure – my fingers are crossed that we are home free!
Tomorrow is Make it Mine Monday…please pop back and see the sketch I have for you to challenge your personal skills. Again, it's great to be back and until tomorrow!

So glad to have you back! This bright and cheery card surely is a reflection of how you must feel being back in your home. Hotels can be fun for a while but there is “no place like home”. Thanks for the tip on using the sticky strip. It will make adhering those tiny 1/8″ strips so much easier.
On a personal note, thank you so much for the lovely sympathy card you sent on the death of my brother. Your kindness was greatly appreciated and reflects your sweet and gentle spirit.
It’s so good to have you back where you belong. You have been missed and it could have been worse but let the sun shine and carry on! Welcome back.
So glad you’re back! I thought about you yesterday and wondered if you were getting your power back – glad they were able to make it happen. Your card is adorable! I love that Flashback DSP – and I too still love the magic of heat embossing:-). Take care!
Soooo glad you are home again safe and sound. And thanks to Daisy Mae the Protecting Pig for keeping everything in good order.
I’m one of those who hesitate to use the brighter designs of DSP, so making this card will get me out of my comfort zone. Thanks!
Yeah, welcome back! Glad you house was O.K. Home is even nice after a vacation, can’t imagine after “having” to be in a hotel, close to your home, and still having to go to work. Did you eat at any places you have never been to before? (Might as well make lemonade, right?)
Love the brightness of this DSP and card. The Crushed Curry is beautiful. Love the Real Red slivers with the sticky strip technique too. I am truly not good at all with heat embossing. I’ll try again soon, but not today, just for you. 🙂
Yay you are home! I checked by yesterday on my blog hopping and I missed you and your cheery daily posting . Cute card ! And I also use my silicone mat for gluing . Haven`t tried Sticky Strip on it ,but I will give it a try .
And I am so sorry about Debra`s brother ! Sending heartfelt sympathy to her !
Welcome back! So wonderful that your power is back on. I agree that the last storm was a doozy. I live about 1.5 hours from you and we had a lot of power outages as well. Lovely card and so simple. Showcasing the DSP is a great idea. Love having you back. I missed you!
Finally! It felt like you were gone for weeks! So glad you are back. Cute, cute card, just love it!
I’m sure you ARE happy to be back into some sense of routine and I’ll bet your animal are also! You are amazing to have such a great card up and out for all of us that missed you in your absence. It’s good to have you back! Thank you!!!
Glad you and John and the kids are back home Now Daisy can get her well deserved sleep in cooler temps! Imagine the police checking the house and looking in the window and seeing Daisy looking back at them? Not everyone can say the Bacon saved your Bacon. Sorry, Daisy – it is just a figure of speech here in Iowa! It doesn’t sound like you are going to convention and that would have added that much more stress to the situation.
The card is a beauty – a bright and bold one! Love it! I have not used my silicone sheet with the red tape but I will remember that next time. Otherwise, it sure comes in handy for lots of stuff. This is a great way of showing off the DP which I love. So glad you are back in your home safe and sound.
Good for you Susan. So glad you are back and have power now.
I’ve had a rough week too. I had to put my cat Lucky down. When I got home, I cried and cried and couldn’t stand an empty house. So, my Husband and I went to the Humane Society and adopted to 3 mos. old black short hair kittens. A good friend helped me name them Boris and Natasha which is so fitting. I sure miss my Lucky; but, am glad to have two little babies to help fill the void.
Your card is so neat. The DSP reminds me of Red Chili Peppers. Love the slivers of red that really make it pop. So very nicely done!
Thanks for sharing!
I ws wondering if your power ws still out. That is no fun:(. Glad it is back and you can get back to a normal routine:)
Hi Susan! So happy you are back and have your electricity, too! That’s a long time in this weather. It’s good that Daisy Mae could hold down the fort while you were away 🙂 I have missed your blogging. Your cards and tips are great, and you know – I am going to dig deeper into my DSP and starting adding more to my cards. I’m also crazy about your lined envelopes! Have a great Sunday afternoon and enjoy the time back in your home sweet home 🙂
Dear Susan, Hooray, You are home. It seems like weeks since we heard from you. I am so glad you and all your kids are home. I bet your dogs are so glad to be home again. I bet Daisy Mae missed all of you.
Your card is so sweet. Bright and sweet, I never knew you can use the silicone sheet for the sticky strips. I will be using it the next time I use the red sticky strips. I am liking the designer paper more every day. they are really pretty.
I also want to send my sympathy to Debra. My sister was only 54 years old she died in february. Mary had 51 years of horrible pain. It is hard to believe she suffered so hard for so long. Have a great day. Enjoy your home it is beautiful. Missed you. and glad you are back. Hugs, Ellen Hinds
Welcome back from Australia!…
Love this card, & kinda glad no blend-abilities were used, having a real hard time opening them :-)lol
