I just love these 2 day challenges ~ I do appreciate the emails that I have received from many of you that you also enjoy these postings! Every week I say to myself – what can I come up with??? and it always seems to work out. I encourage you to try to look at a project that you make and then say – what can I do to change it up a bit.
Doing this will help you continue to develop a style of your own and it will help you reach to try new things. Sometimes you will feel like you like the "easier one" or the "stepped up" one makes you roll…whichever, it is a personal choice and sometimes it also come down to time.
Here are the cards side by side (click on the image to make it larger)
I am just in love with this simple flower! As I commented in yesterday's post, this stamp set is on the weekly deals and remember that they are only good thru (tomorrow night), Monday! Hands down, the sentiments are fabulous but I am "head over heels" with the flower images as they are just so simple!
Let's get to the card today – I did not give you the dimensions yesterday so here you go (I know you like that)
- A-2 vertical card in whisper white and then another piece 1/4" smaller (5 1/4" X 4")
- The black band is 1" wide and long enough to wrap around the white piece and then the vellum is 3/4"
- The punches are the 2 3/8" Scallop Punch and the 1 3/4" Circle Punch
- The "Thanks" is stamped in the White Craft Ink (This is something that I would recommend having around, true you do not use if often but when you do…it makes a fun statement)
- The tiny flowers are from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Set and then I used the small SU hole punch for the centers for the centers of the flowers and the white gel pen for the dot (you could easily use a small pearl but that would most likely bump you into extra postage)
- I carried on the white gel pen and black marker dashes and dots….(remember, that the white pen does take a bit longer to dry so be careful that you do not touch it too soon.)
- Lastly the envelope….super cute! (darn, I love this flower!!!)
Well, there you go! Personally I do not think you could go wrong with either card. The vellum just gives it a different feel and in person it really is stunning. I know that we do not use vellum a bunch but I think that this (like the white ink pad) a great item to have in your craft area.
The biggest obstacle with Vellum is hiding the adhesive. This was easy with this card as I used the adhesive (I used glue dots = EASY) on the back of the band and then under the scallop circle and itty bitty flowers.
Please feel free to share with everyone your thoughts…remember to email me your answers for the BLOG CANDY challenge I put your way on Friday, click here to see that post!
p.s. – I have had ?'s about the number of retired stamp sets for the Blog Candy…(1) stamp set is the stamp set name not (1) being wood mount, (1) being clear mount etc….for example if Mothers Love is to be discontinued that would count as (1) stamp set NOT (3) because of it being in different mounts.
Good luck and HAVE FUN – I have been loving your responses and I am equally as excited to see the list on Tuesday! Please pop back tomorrow for a Monday fun challenge!

Love both cards! I just ordered that stamp set and will be casing your cards for sure!!
Yeah – CASE away! I am just lovin’ the flowers! My head is already spinning for another card! Enjoy your day!
I love both cards but have to admit the extra touches on today’s card really bring up the Wow Factor! I love the versatility of this stamp set–I did buy it to make Mothers Day cards, but I appreciate the fact that I can continue using it beyond that day. Thanks for the great idea of using your Gel Pen to add a “pearl.” The majority of cards I make get mailed and I always worry about them getting hurt/crushed in the mail. You rock!
I like them both but like the stepped up one best! Thanks for sharing!!
These flowers are cute and look hand drawn . Both cards are cute ,but I think I like the first one the best . I think it is because the sentiment is on WW and the font stands out so pretty .
As always thank you for giving such great detailed instructions . Not many instructions given on other sites remind you to be careful about the Craft Ink being “Still wet and slow to dry”
Wow, great job Susan! They are both so fun and fresh! Love the “pearl” idea too! Thanks for all the tips.
My vote is for the stepped up version because I like the effect that the vellum gives on top of the black…kind of a two-toned effect maybe…
Both cards are beautiful but I like this stepped up version a lot. The addition of the black scalloped piece for your sentiment really makes it pop, even with the “Thanks” stamped in white over Vellum. Love the “stitching” done with the gel pen, this is such an awesome detail.
Thank you for both cards Susan, each one is beautiful in it’s own way.
I love both but I would vote for the first because I am a fan of yellow!
Saturday’s card is my favorite. I think it’ she crispness. Will try to get my retired list to you today.
enjoy your day!
Love both cards, but, the first one is my fav!
Thank you very much for the dimensions – I am the worst at measuring and cutting!
I emailed you my thoughts on the retired list as well – thank you for the chance to win blog candy.
Holy smokes what a difference. I first thought you used smoky slate and then I read about the vellum. I have the stuff but never use it so I thought that was really a great idea to use what you have! I honestly like both cards but that black scalloped part paired with the vellum and the extra little flowers kicked it up and SCORED! Sometimes it just amazes me just the little changes can make a dramatic difference. Of course everyone knows I am easily entertained!
Since so many sets get the boot – maybe we should focus on what stays! Do you know how hey decide what stays and what goes?
Both cards are lovely, my favorite thing are your signature Susan dots. I like the first because it is so simple and I like the second because the vellum on black with the sweet flowers is a perfect addition. I use a Scotch Vellum Tape to adhere my vellum, it is almost invisible even when there is no place to hide it easily.
I like Saturday’s version best!
