I am so glad that so many of you enjoyed yesterdays card and I hope that this card today makes you happy as well! Click here to see yesterdays post and then todays card is the "Stepped up version" Let me clarify, when I say stepped up, it might mean just adding some layers, changing colors up a bit, changing an orientation of the card etc…
You all seem to enjoy these post and my hopes are to show and teach you that there are many ways that you can make some changes that can softly change the feel of your card!
Before we get to the card, I need to say that I am doing the happy dance that my Mom's friend is filled with joy and I think it will work out…..I helped rescue a dog, a very special dog for her. At the end I will share the scoop! There are no words to say how happy my heart is.
I apologize for the icky pictures – it was super late when I took them and the lighting was not the best…sorry! I think that you can get the idea of the card and can image how luscious the fall colors together are! I just love Fall…..tomorrow the weather is going to be perfect for our party!
Here are the main differences of the 2 cards!
- I added the layered level, 4" X 5 1/4" and then I corner rounded the layer as well as the A-2 card base.
- For the banner, I ran it through the Big Shot with the Wood Grain embossing folder
- The Mossy Meadow Circle, I added leaves that are on the Cottage Greetings stamp set (I know, you can hardly see it int he pictures but trust me, it's cute!
- I pulled some threads from a piece of burlap ribbon and added a bow to the cute acorn.
This truly is a sweet card and a fast card to make. If you want to mass produce a card for fall themes, this would be one that I would do – change up the sentiments as you are a shining star –
Now to share with you what I have been up to. First – things like this just happen to me – this was TOTALLY NOT PLANNED or even on my RADAR SCREEN that this would happen!
Thursday I went to a Horse Show….my horses were not showing but I wanted to go and see my "horse friends" and cheer on their horses….at the shows we go to there are many special people, vendors and always a ton of fun!
One amazing organization was there, Danny and Rons Rescue. They are from Camden South Carolina and I urge you to look them up on google. These guys have the biggest hearts and have placed over 4,800 dogs. Simply amazing!
You know me….I went up to the bus as they drove in to see the dogs and help them if they needed it and I saw Milo…my heart knew that this was a special dog and boy was I right. I spent some time with him and immediately thought of Earlene.
She is 82 years old and amazing. Truly one beautiful person inside and out! She has lost her husband and also lost her daughter in January and I have known that she has wanted a companion.
I came home and called her son talk to him about it and he said, "Let's make this happen" – so back in the car I went on Friday and picked him up.
He spent the night with us on Friday and yesterday we made the introduction. I went over there 4 times yesterday just to make sure everything was going ok and it is really working out. He is an AMAZING little guy and definitely a companion dog.
He was shot in his leg and has a limp (Earlene likes that as she says she limps!) She walks outside with a walker so I wanted to make sure that she was able to handle him and the walker etc….and he was perfect – I could go on and on about my day but I am sure you are bored and I am pooped! Busy day for me tomorrow but please keep sending great thoughts that this pair is meant to be –
My JOY tank is so darn tootin' full!

You have every right to be tootin full and proud of yourself for all your efforts are paying off. Both cards are adorable, but again I have to go with today’s card as my favorite with the woodgrain banner and the tiny stamped leaves on the mossy meadow circle, plus the burlap bow. It certainly looks more “dressed up”. Take care. Good luck with your party and I’ll keep Earlene and Milo in my thoughts and prayers.
Good Morning Susan, the card looks very nice, as did yesterday’s. I like the stamped leaves on the green circle the best, very subtle. I love your story about Milo and Earlene. God Bless.
🙂
Amazing story and woman you are! So happy that they have each other now. Your card is so great tool I love both versions of the card. Keep up your happy dance, well deserved
God bless Earline and Milo – May they be a happy and joyous team. You make my heart full, Susan Itell – Thanks for being such a great person and caring so much and doing such great things to make others happy. YOU ARE AN ANGEL right here on earth! Oh, and I adore the cards!!
Your JOY just runs over onto my computer screen and into my heart! You are such a loving person and we ‘cyber friends’ are very blessed to be able to share your JOY! Your cards are both wonderful, but like others, your “stepped up” version just POPS! Have a wonderful party today! Enjoy your guests and I’m sure many new and fantastic memories will be born today! Milo and Earlene look like they are already loving each other! What a blessing for her and for Milo! Have a blessed day!
Love the cards and your stories, always full of excitement and joy (well almost always). Thoughts and prayers for your friend and her new BFF. Have a joy filled day with friends at the party.
Ah, so sweet. They belong together. Is he a Doxie? They both look at peace in having found each other.
Love your card and your heart-warming story!
I love your stepped up card. But as a fellow animal lover, I love the rescue of Earene and Milo the most! Great job ?
Oh, Susan, what a tug at your heart story today. The pic of Earlene and Milo says it all! Bless them both and you as well, for being so thoughtful and kind! Btw, I love today’s card….stunning! Enjoy your fun-filled gathering today!
Loved both cards but tend to appreciate the extras on the second card. I experienced a level of your happiness on your experience joining up Earene and Milo. They already look like lifelong companions. God bless you for being so thoughtful. ?
Being a dog lover, this story was truly wonderful. Milo knows he is at home with Earlene.
I really enjoy your weekend “Stepped Up” posts. I like the this and that you showcase, how doing this is super and doing a little of that makes such a difference. I never think to round the corners of the card. Will start trying that. I also was missing your burlap bow. Love the bows! Love hearing about Milo and your friend Earlene too. Have a fun Sunday.
I love the stepped up version a lot . It has the subtle added details that make it pop.
I also love Camden,S.C…..spent many happy hours there with my grandparents ….horses rule there !
And your rescue story is wonderful ! Love Milo (he looks like a Doxie….had two of those in the past ) Earlene will love having him there I know because it looks like they are already meant to be together .
Have fun today !
What a beautiful story! Love the stepped up card. I think the bow really sets it off! Have a wonderful day!
You have a great heart. Your friend is blessed to have you as a friend. All of your cards are lovely.
You are some kind of wonderful.
What a lovely gift for Earline. I think dogs are the best medicine to cheer a person. Love the ‘stepped up’ version of your card. Have a wonderful day.
Another Beautiful autumnal card, Susan! Milo and Earlene look like a perfect match! And when “things like this just happen to me” as you stated, that’s when God is on the scene working through you. It was not an accident, it was a divine intervention, and you were a part of His plan for both Milo and Earlene. What a blessing for all~ Hugs
Your post “leaves” my heart going pitter patter! Earlene and Milo look like they have been friends “forever” and a day! I think Milo has a tiny smile! So precious that they both have a limp and can take care of each other and maybe go at a leisurely pace.
Today’s card is my favorite – the leaves seem to be popping off the card or moving in the breeze! Love it! I like the banner’s texture too. Of course the bow is the perfect element! Amazing what softness the corner rounding did and the extra layer. Love it!
Now, go and have a great party and tell us about it tomorrow if you have time! I want details!
Next week you are going to have to relax and take it easy….you had a big week in making people happy!
I just plain love reading your blog ! Love your cards ALWAYS and love your real life stories. For me your Saturday card looks masculine and your Sunday card with the bow looks feminine! Love them both. TFS
Great story…….I think Milo & Earlene were meant for each other…….they look very happy!! I really enjoy your week end “simple & stepped-up” versions of cards…..amazing how just a little tweak makes a difference. They are both beautiful cards…….but when you have the time you can do the stepped-up version & have a different feel to the card. I want to ask you how you round the upper corners of your card base……my corner rounder punch does NOT seem to like to punch thru 2 layers of card stock……how do you do it?????
Dear Susan, what a beautiful card. I love all the little details. You deserve to do the Happy dance. You have a wonderful and kind heart. You reached out to this wonderful company that rescues dogs. God Bless them. Your wonderful Friend Earlene and Milo look like they have spent their lives with each other. God used you to be Jesus with skin on for both of these wonderful things to happen. I hope you have a wonderful party today. May God. Bkess you all today. Hugs my friend. Ellen Hinds
I love both versions of your cards, but I am most excited for Earlene and Milo!! Our hearts are melting and Caleb says they “look like a good fit” for each other. I couldn’t agree more. My brother owns his own airplane and flies volunteer rescue missions for dogs…he hasn’t been able to do it since his motorcycle accident and he misses it dearly. We are all very proud of him and hope he will be able to do it again someday. Anyway…it is precious to hear the story of Earlene and I can imagine her using her walker and having Milo limp next to hear. Adorable!
Both cards are very nice! I enjoyed your story too. Even though I am not a dog lover (I’m allergic to them) this story brought tears to my eyes.
Both the card ar great, but I think my favorite old be step up Sunday:)
And I’m sure Milo will be the best companion. Good job matching them up Susan:)
Love your card, love the story. You make my heart happy!
Such a lovely deed. You helped both Earlene and Milo! Such a sweet story. I like the layered and popped up card better but I do miss the stitching on the stepped up’s version of the banner.
Such a beautiful story, and Earlene looks so very happy and as as Milo looks.
This is such a nice thing for you to do a match made in heaven for these two.
I would love to hear updates once in awhile about Earlene and Milo.
The cards are so very sweet to. I am enjoying making fall leaves cards and like your ideas alot.
