Here you go….same card as yesterday with just a couple of minimal changes! You might not catch them at first glance so I will help you out,…there are 4!
1 – I matted the focal DSP with Real Red.
2. – I matted the "cardinal" on a piece of scrap of Vanilla Coaster Board to give it a bit more stability and depth.I used the green glue, let it dry and then fussy cut at the same time, the cardinal and the coaster board.
3. – I added the thick bakers twine and a simple bow
4. – To the berries and also on the wings of the cardinal….I added some Dazzling Details – I realize that it is super hard to see in the pictures but this does add a great shimmer effect! (Trust me – I am not a huge BLING-BLING person, but this does add a great touch!
In the below picture you can get a glimpse of the Vanilla Coater Board ….you know that I adore that and I simply added the cut out cardinal to the coaster board…(adhered it with green glue) and then cut it out.
Here is a great tip…when you cut out an image like this…take your black marker and rub it against the edge as it finishes the total picture!
Time to have a chat about Blender pens….they are super easy to use. I know that many people prefer these over the Aqua Painters but in my opinion, they are two totally different items with different looks.
It is hard to see but I think using the blender pens did make a difference for a subtle look. The great thing about the blender pens is that you can reuse them time after time and this is the best way to get "THE FEEL" of watercoloring.
CONFESSION OF AN HONEST STAMPER: As I was typing this for the post, I looked at this and said to myself, I should have used the Real Red Envelope Paper to line the envelope!
WHY??? A couple of reasons, if you like this card and want to duplicate it (and this would be a great one to make many of), you get (2) sheets of paper in the DSP pack and therefore you would be able to make 18 cards from (2) sheets of paper and then just used the real red envelope paper to line!
Here is my take for this week. I love this card. (as I said it does make me smile and think of my Mom) but I would make it like today…most likely without the bakers twine as I feel like it was too stark….definitely do the red mat of paper, and also change the liner to Real Red….see, I told you that I was honest!
I hope that you have enjoyed the past 2 days of post and I think that you can see that this stamp set is one that produces a fun but wow card and the best thing….IT IS SUPER EASY!
As I said yesterday, the word JOYFUL is all that is needed on the inside and whomever is lucky enough to receive it will smile, and be full of JOY = MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Below you will see the parade of products used for todays card….feel free to click on them to preview the product….it is a great way to see the product and all of the details etc….Thanks for popping in and please share the Simple Stampin' love with your family and friends….
My Mom was a special person and wow, do I miss her but one thing that she always said was "word of mouth is the best form of advertizement one could get".…so please share my blog and encourage your family and friends to get on the FUN TRAIN and get a dose of inspiration!
Until tomorrow…hopefully we can have Milos Birthday party and I will be sure to share some fun pictures!
Lovin’ the stepped up version – The real red makes it pop! Love you idea to use it for envelope liner too! And I love the twine!
Loving the red mat and the idea for the red liner. Wonder how the striped red ribbon from the holiday catalog would look instead of the baker’s twine?Too much red? Can you have TOO much red? Lol!
Also loving the extra dimension of the coaster board. So simple, but WOW!
I still have an older cardinal set, so I didn’t even really look at this one in the catalog. I am rethinking that position; I love this card!
Love the stepped up version of your card ! I am not a bow person and I am wondering what to replace the bow with ???
I liked the stepped-up version, minus the bow. I think blank space is fine.
🙂
Yup I think no twine=perfect! Only thing I miss about the 8 years I lived in Missouri is the beautiful cardinals. Their coloring against the white snow=awesome. Love your card Susan.
I’m with your final conclusion…ditch the bakers twine (I’d just leave the blank space) and change to the red envelope liner. I have made several b-day and Christmas cards with this stamp set and purchased it because my mom is a huge Cardinal lover also. I’ve also made gift tags with this set and they turned out gorgeous!!
I really like that extra pop of color that the extra layer gives. So many times I look at a card I’ve made and say, “If I were to do this again, I would…” It’s great to hear I’m not the only one!!! Love the card, love the set!
I agree with you Susan. The red mat really pops the card as well as the coaster board and the twine is not essential to the card but it still look nice. Perhaps you can substitute a few variated short score lines in that area. Happy Sunday!
the red layer really makes it pop–hard to believe one thing like that will make such a difference! thanks for sharing the two versions…I learn from you everyday!
I didn’t think the red mat would make that much difference but it sure does make the card pop! Plus the coaster board, I was wondering if it would be hard to cut with scissors and you answered that! I think I like all the blue with the snow without the baker’s twine. A snowflake or another tree branch would just make it too busy for this soft and serene card. I am sure the little touch of dazzling diamonds on the berries on the branch ws just a perfect touch. I know this is hard to capture on a photo. Envelope liner – either one would be fine I think. Stunningly simple!
