Happy Sunday….here you go – the stepped up version of yesterday’s card. Later on I will share with you some confessions in making this card because I like to be totally honest with you in the ups and downs that I too go through when I make a card. The moral of the story is….there are times that you just have to roll with it and say….
It is handmade, not hallmark…it was made from your hands, not a machine!
Well…let’s get going…as in our Sunday tradition…here you go side by side….so you decide!
I am keeping in our theme of USING UP OUR PAPER and today’s biggest difference is that I used the DSP as the card front focal part. This sweet print (From the It’s My Party DSP Stack) is a super sweet print in Mint Macaron. Little prints like this are fantastic…I love small prints because you can pull off using them like this card or you can also use them for paper piecing and also for cutting thin strips and making a fun background.
I stayed with the basic gray to mat the sentiment, I thought that black would have been too stark but I also could have easily just used Mint Macaron and rolled with a monochromatic look (I would try this…I think it would be stunning)
Now to my confession. I am one that does not like to start over (unless I make a total no-brainer mess…..like a huge blob of ink). When I was making this card today, I used the gray pen to do my stitchin’…(Yesterday I used the Mint Macaron) I did not like the look of the gray – it was simply too dark 🙁
When things like this happen there is always a PLAN B!!! I knew that I was not going to start over as I had already cleaned and put away my stamp so I took a piece of solid paper, cut a thin piece of paper and covered up the part that I did not like! (If you look in the above picture you can see where I placed the strips)
Everything else was basically the same…super sweet, super straight forward, super easy! You can see that making this card….(either versions) is a quick one and I am thrilled that the Flower Shop Stamp is being carried over. (My fingers are crossed that the Watercolor Words are as well….I guess we will have to wait and see tomorrow)
This weekend post I admit, there was not a dramatic difference…the difference is that I just used more DSP. Please do not be afraid to use your paper in this fashion. Our papers are beautiful and we need to let them “strut their stuff”
From the angle of the above picture you can really see the pieces that I cut to cover up my boo-boo. Now technically, I could have taken the time to make exact cuts so you would not see any overlapping…but again, it is handmade and I like the look and feel of handmade!
I have another confession…I am GREEN WITH STAMPIN’ ENVY that I was not in Salt Lake City over the past several days for the unveiling of the new catalog. Mum is still the word but I get to peek at it online tomorrow…..(a great perk for being a SUD). I hear that it is fantastic and the I will love it…..darn, I tried and tried to get one of my friends to “spill the beans” but no luck!
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow…I know you will smile…it is one of my all time favorites that I know is being carried over…he holds a very special place in my heart (can you guess what stamp it is???)
Enjoy the day and go make someone smile! 🙂

I’m also green with envy that I’m not in SLC right now. I’d do anything to see the catalog! Patience, Tricia, patience…only 24 or so hours to go. My guess is the stamp set tomorrow will be “Kind Koala.” I know how much you love single stamps and there is no denying how adorable that little guy is! I still can’t decide which card I like best today. Before reading your explanation on why you did the strips on today’s card, I thought to myself, hmmm…that’s an interesting detail that I’ve never seen Susan do before. I literally laughed out loud when i read your reasoning — I can see myself doing that because I’m stubborn and/or simply don’t have time to start over! Have wonderful day. 🙂
P.S. Caleb agrees with me on Kind Koala for tomorrow!
After reading your post over, we saw the “getting carried over” clue and decided it must be the “Toadally Awesome” frog from the Your Sublime stamp set that we’ll see tomorrow. 🙂
I noticed the strips right away and liked it as it was new and different. Had no idea you were hiding something!!? You know, I have never used a gray mat so you gave me pause on that!!!! Both cards are wonderful, Susan!!! Have a lovely spring Sunday!!
Clever girl! Perfect solution and it looks great. Both cards work for me. I agree with Tricia and Caleb…Kind Koala would be my guess, too, since it is a sweetheart of a stamp. Enjoy this beautiful sunny day!
As usual, both cards are beautiful and like the other posters I can’t choose a favorite. For me it would depend on how much DSP I had of the color I wanted to use. It’s always good to have a Plan B up our sleeve. Can’t wait to see what is retiring. It will be exciting to see the sneak peeks from the new catalog we’ll get until June 1st. Have a wonderful Sunday.
Love both of your weekend cards. I think the stamp that you are excited to see carried over is Vivid Vases. You have posted some great cards with that single stamp too.
I like your “cover up”. I would think it is another “Susan” touch of originality if I received this card ! I like the Mint M. and plan to pull out some cardstock and ink pad and make a card today using it. Now as far as DSP ….I just ordered another pack of English Garden because I love it and might pass out if I discover it is all gone before I get tired of it !! (giggle)
I love your “mistake buster”! Whenever I show a friend my cards and point out the cover-ups to my mistakes, she tells me I shouldn’t admit to them and no one would ever know. But the thing is, I am proud of how I fixed them. So should we all! wonderful cards as always!
I thought the placing of the strips was purposely done too. I think it gives somewhat of dimension without being popped up. This week’s pick is tricky cuz I like each one for different reasons.
Susan, I also like both cards. You always come up with great ideas. I also like how you fixed your boo-boo. It is so good to see that even great SUD make mistakes too.Have a wonderful day. I think the stampo is Kind Kola. You always come up with great ways to use this single stamp. Ellen Hinds
I am on the fence again. If the eye surgery wasn’t enough this week, I have a full blown cold now! We will have to wait and see when I sneeze which side of the fence I end up! I love both of the cards.
Great recovery on today’s card. The creative side of you really shines here. Am liking Saturday’s card most, but both are fun.
I’ll go out on a limb and guess tomorrow’s card will have the little lamb.
I think the stamp and set being carried over you are so happy about is the little frog in Your Sublime.
Hi Susan, I didn’t read the other posts, but I’m guessing the Frog! Green with envy twice! I like this card and think the strips are terrific. I noticed them on the side by side cards and thought it was a nice frame!
It is such a gorgeous day out today . . . I hope you got to go out and enjoy some of it. I got my PP the other day and I love it too. I was laughing about you opening yours by the (with the) mail box. Ha. Ha.
🙂
