Happy Tuesday and today is our day that we chat about tips and try to learn about different topics that revolve around stamping, organizing and basically “whatever” for this wonderful habit we have, STAMPING!
Today lets get some chatter rolling on adhesives and what we like and what we do not reach for! I am a firm believer that we learn from one another and hearing what works for some might make us dust a product off the shelf and give it a try!
I am going to take a dive and list the 4 Stampin’ Up! products that I reach for on just about a daily basis. You can click here and see the adhesives that Stampin’ Up! offers and also refer to page 182 in the catalog to take a look!
I have also created this PDF for you to read about adhesives. Remember, these are just my picks and thoughts. I will be adding a section in my Blog Header about Tips and Product Reviews (This is my 1st one, adhesives)
- Fast Fuse – This is the adhesive that I reach for the most. Trust me, it TOTALLY was my least favorite adhesive when it first came out but after we learned to like one another, it is a Blue Ribbon Adhesive. I love the fact that you can purchase a refill and I know at a glance, this adhesive seems expensive but look at the amount of yards you get….a GREAT DEAL!
- Multipurpose Glue (aka ~ green glue) – To me, this is liquid gold. It is affordable, strong and lives up to its name, “multipurpose”
- Glue Dots – Love these little gems. Every-time I use them I say, “Why didn’t I use them years ago”…a life saver!
- Tear & Tape – Thank you Stampin’ Up! for creating this so we do not need scissors. I think that we all agree that this is a great adhesive and a favorite for many with making 3-d projects. I admit, I have become pretty slick with the Fast Fuse and I will use that for 3-d’s but you still love this great tape!
Please make sure that you read the PDF that I created for more details and thoughts that I have about these products. You can see that there are adhesives that I have not mentioned…..that does not mean that I do not like them….most likely it is that these 4 are the ones that I gravitate to.
Please leave me a comment and let me know what you like. This is how we learn…as maybe I too will pick up a “light bulb” nugget and try a product in a different way!
With the Bonus Days in full swing and also the LAST 2 Days of my offering of DOUBLE PAW PRINTS, I say….look at your supplies, running out of adhesives is just the worse!
You know how were are about “stocking up” when a snow storm is in the forecast? Trust me, my adhesives are ALWAYS stocked as I would not be a HAPPY SUSAN is I ran out of one of my go-to’s! 🙁
Tomorrow is a PALS Blog Hop….this is a monthly “fun day” where there are LOTS of great ideas! I love being a part of the PALS community. Through them, I have learned so much about many aspects of stamping, tips and just sheer friendship! (they were the ones that helped me through the learning curve of using a Fast Fuse) 🙂
I can’t wait to hear your feedback!
p.s. – Stampin’ Dimensionals in my opinion are not even in the running for this post as YOU ALL NEED MANY PACKS OF THESE….I call them my Stampin’ Vitamins! Of course you need them EVERY DAY!

Truth be told, I love all the adhesives but I rarely use the Fine Tip Glue Pen…I always use the “green glue” instead.
Totally agree…I actually gave away my glue pen….it just did not work for me!
I seem to have a tape obsession as I am always making sure I have back-ups. I have used the green glue more since you gave us the tip of letting it set for a time as then it doesn’t seem to slip and slide so much. One Stampin’ Up product I really like is the little square rubber adhesive remover. It is a handy little thing that seems to roll the excess glue off without effecting the paper. It has been a $3.50 life saver.
YEAH….I am THRILLED that you love that little blob of square! I totally agree as it is the BEST in removing excess mono if it goos out! This $3.50 gem lasts forever – A must have!
Susan, I use the tear and tape. It is my go-to adhesive. This is something I could order by the gross so I would make sure I had enough and didn’t run out. I panic when I only have one fresh roll left.
You make me laugh with the panic….I TOTALLY know how you feel – I just say if this is what we can panic about…we are doing great! Hugs my friend!
I am warming up to the green glue. I have to learn to trust that it is not going to leave ripples in my paper like some liquid glues. Love the fast fuse and glue dots. When I am putting layers down I find the Snail is more forgiving than the fast fuse if one needs to reposition half way down. I do miss the two way glue. I used that a lot to glue the thinlit words on. And dimensionals, yes, a must every day!!!
Great feedback – I do not have “ripple problems” with the green glue but I do not use it much with the very vanilla and the regular white paper….then I find that you can see some “bleed through” of the adhesive = this does not happen with the thick card stock.
I can’t live without green glue! I love the moments of forgiveness. When I teach my classes I really work on applying lightly!! I use snail and fast fuse. I do like fine tip for those delicate jobs. I also use the adhesive sheets for delicate work and that sure makes it easy. Thank you for starting these conversations. I love to read what others write. I learn so much!
Hello my friend…I love your comment of the “moment of forgiveness” – WELL SAID! I am glad that you are showing to use an easy hand…as there is nothing like seeing someone take the bottle and squeezing it to death – DISASTER!!!!!
Because I have trouble getting things lined up I like to use Tombow because I can move the paper.
AMEN….that is such a KEY ELEMENT to this product! So happy that this works for your needs!
Snail is my go-to adhesive, but green glue is a close second. I haven’t had too much luck with the fine tip glue pen. It dries very quickly if the top isn’t put back on immediately…I say immediately. One dried up and I had to get another one, but now I’m quite skittish about using it for fear it will dry up. I love the concept of the fine tip and would love to use it more. Since you, Susan, gave us the tip about using the Stick It product from Amazon for the detailed dies, I’m happy as a clam using it. If anyone here has tips on using the fine tip glue, I’d certainly appreciate them. I agree with Robyn C about the little square adhesive remover being so wonderful. I use it all the time.
TOTALLY agree with the fine tip glue…I was excited for the concept but it just doesn’t seem to work for me….if anyone has an idea – I would love to learn!
Stick It is the BOMB….great product and I hope that Stampin’ Up! comes out with something similar. I will say, if you are very careful and patient – you can easily use the green glue with your sentiments…let it “set up” for a couple of minutes before you adhere!
I rarely use tape of any kind, even the super sticky double sided Sticky Strip. I find that over time they DO NOT HOLD. I have many cards that friends have sent me over the years and some old ones of mine that either I didn’t like enough to send or that I just loved too much to share (naughty me) and they have fallen apart. If I am making multiples — as in Christmas cards I may, on occasion, use tape but only on those that I know will be discarded. If I think the person may keep it, I will ONLY use glue. It is all I trust. I do use the green glue and also another product (from Elmers I think. I only have ripples in my papers if I am overgenerous with the glue). I also will not use glue sticks or glue pens. Same problem with not sticking over time. I am not certain about dimensionals or glue dots, but I do know the old (as in first out) glue dots, do leave something that looks like grease spots on cardstock and paper. I use both of these items a lot and hope they hold up and do not leave spots.
Great comment…many thanks! This is what I love, we all learn from other tips! I have never found that the tear-n-tape lifts off. Actually the only adhesive that I feel does this is the snail. You do need to be careful with the amount of green glue that comes out to prevent “wrinkles” but then again, this comes with time….LESS IS BEST with using this product as it does have such a super strong hold.
As far as the Fast Fuse…I think that it is simply the best but it took me a LONG time to accept this!
What is your opinion of Snail, Susan? Do you think it doesn’t hold well enough so you use the Fuse Fast instead? I use Snail a lot, but maybe I need to change that up.
Hi Ann….here is my honest opinion, I am not a fan of the snail as I personally feel that it does not give a strong “stick” in the test of time. I actually can honestly say that I do not go through 1 in a year. To me, the fast fuse gives the best hold if you are looking fro an adhesive that is in a convenient dispenser like this. The tear-n-tape is a super adhesive, I would recommend that you get one to try…it is a great product!
The multi-purpose glue and the sticky dots are my go to adhesives every time I create a card. I love the dimensionals too and use them most of the time. I’ve never tried the fast fuse nor the tear and tape, so I don’t know what they’re all about. Thanks for your tips and tricks, Susan~
It seems like you have 2 that work for you….I say, if it works – keep doing what you are doing!
I never liked that green glue until you, Susan, showed me the light. Now I love it. I’ve often given away my bottle to others, “You must try this.” My adhesive advice is DON’T HOARD IT! My friend is terminally ill and passed on a huge box of adhesives to me. Many of them are the same, her favorites that she “stocked up on.” I’ve thrown the majority of them out because they are too old to stick well. It is good to have a backup or two around but if you can fill a green Hefty trashbag full of adhesives, you have too many. They’ll be worthless by the time you get around to using them.
hmmmmm…..I have never noticed that it doesn’t stick as well….I always have 6 bottles of it but then again, I use it all the time. I do feel the same way about paper….don’t buy packs and packs of paper (hmmmm, this would be a great Tuesday Tip) as I think that the texture in time changes. Naturally have have TONS of White and Very Vanilla…that is different!
Love Tuesdays Tips! I do use most of the adhesives you mentioned. It all depends on what I am making. For cards I usually use snail or green glue and for 3D projects I like fast fuse and tear and tape (though for some reason I cut it). I agree with others about the fine tip glue…it is not my favorite.
You make me laugh about cutting the tear -n- tape – Silly Sheep Herder!!!! I am totally with you…not a fan of the fine glue tip !
Please tell me the secret of Fast Fuse! I have tried numerous times, gotten a new one, and lots of refills, and it still clogs up on me and doesn’t work at all. I know there must be something I’m doing wrong, because so many people love it. I have watched the video, and I use the “check mark” technique, but it still doesn’t work. Please help!
Oh Kelly…I SOOOOOOOOO feel your pain and frustration. I guess that I just need to do a video on this and hopefully get it “not to work” so you can see. One thing that is a huge help is to open up the black container and if there are any “goobers” stuck…..pick them off. Also, take an alcohol swab and clean it….if you have too much excess that has GLOBBED up, it will become your enemy!
I will admit it, I am cheap and use the snail stuff from Walmart. But, I have warmed up to the “green glue” and use it a lot also. I go on spurts and use dimensionals and glue dots but not as much. I don’t use the Fast Fuse that much and it does require a learning curb. I have only used the Tear and Tape a few times but like it. I loved the red tape but it was a bugger to get the nonstick coating off at times. When I first started stamping, I used rubber cement but it didn’t stand the use of time. Since I am cheap, conservative, or whatever you want to call me – I have been known to use the excess rubber from the stamps that are sticky instead of dimensionals. These are not usually mailed in a regular envelope because of the height it gives but it is free and looks cool when I want varying heights to something. Boy, we have come a long way from the white paste we used in grade school and good old plain white Elmer’s Glue!
You are SOOOOOOO right, we have come a long way with adhesives! It just drives me NUTS when adhesives lift up…..so I would say to you….use the green glue as much as you can – it is so affordable and gives a great hold. IF you get TOO MUCH that comes out….let it sit up a bit to stop the oozing…..
Thanks for everyone’s thoughts! I was carding yesterday and was actually thinking about how I ONLY use the green glue for most everything….I find that, like Tonilea, the snail just does not hold over time. If I am careful, I can lightly apply the green glue even to tiny pieces and I love (and need) it to have that flexibility to move/adjust my paper so that it is exactly where I want it. I do love glue dots also plus the tear and tape is terrific.
I just think that the green glue such a great product. I personally do not use the snail for the reasons you mentioned. I like a SUPER STRONG hold as I think that this makes our work that we do look more professional etc….
Awesome chat on adhesives, most of it was new to me. Thanks for stopping by my site earlier!
Thanks for the comment. There are so many great options out there for adhesives….I just wanted to showcase and give some insight on ones that make me roll….just about daily!
