Happy…happy Sunday – WOW, it is a HOT weekend on the East Coast. Please remind me, when the calendar says September, doesn’t that mean cooler days and chilly nights? I have had 1 good “hair day” since Spring and I really count on low humidity to have just a couple of good “hair days”
Well my friends, here you go – the stepped up version from yesterday so it is up to you….SIDE by SIDE, you decide? I honestly had NO IDEA where I was going to go with yesterdays card (as I really liked it) but I will say, I LOVE this one!
I know that it is hard to use DSP in a Big and Bold way but I hope that this encouraged you to say, hmmmmm….I should try this! Why not say to yourself ~ try it, I might like it! The other thing that I did differently today was that I popped up both, the mat (DSP piece) as well as the sentiment!
On a side note, I took it to the Post Office to see….and yep – it goes with a regular stamp!
I told you yesterday that I was going to share with you how I made the “texture feel” of the leaves etc….and are you ready – it is SUPER HARD….but I know that you can do it and when you do it, please think of me! Just simply go to town and ball it up….flatten it out…..ball it up – do what ever your little heart desires…..just work the fibers and you are good to go!
Did you notice that today I took another “frame” from the Tags & Labels Framelits and twisted it to add some interest! When you feel like you need a “wee bit more”, try a simple trick like this. It just makes your eye focus on the sentiment.
Because I already had adhesive on the back, I thought – add some linen thread – this will ad som “home feel and softness” To me, a little added touch like this makes a card step up to a new level!
One more look before you get to the scoop of the dimensions. I think that this is a beautiful and special card. As I shared with you yesterday, I needed a card to send to someone and yep – I am sending her today’s card! Do you have a favorite?
I know that this is what you love, the dimensions on how to make the card! Here you go, Please feel free to email me if you need further help or have any questions! This layout can be used for so many sentiments that we have and the other bonus, it is a great way to USE UP THAT DSP that we all seem to have – I know, I know…..it is super pretty to look at but we bought it to use it – SO USE IT UP!!!!! 🙂
- Card Base is Very Vanilla 4 1/4 X 5 1/2
- The mat that you will “build on” is 4″ X 5 1/4″
- The DSP to the left is 3″ X 4″
- The DSP to the right is 2 1/4″ X 4″
- The strip of paper is just 1/4″ wide
There you go – that is the simple “FORMULA” for this card now go find a stamp set and CASE IT so you can see 1st hand how easy and rewarding this layout is!

really like Saturday but Sunday is terrific…love the way you took a Christmas set and used the leaf to make it more year round…and the remnder of “crumpling for texture and the extra ticket piece turned…all soooooo fuctionally and soooooooooooooooooo simple….thanks for the great ideas and special thanks for the measurements…creating a binder with all your card ideas so I can use them again and again
blessings
I agree…I encourage all of us to look at what we have and make it work for other cards. I adore little leaves to tuck in here and there – it makes the texture happen and adds interest! I would have a file on your computer to keep sketch ideas or a pad of paper at your work area to do a quick sketch…also if you have the date of when the card was posted – that would really be a help to you!
Dear Susan, I thought Saturday’s card was pretty. But I love Sunday’s card. You are amazing. I live the texture and the DSP. I love how you popped the base up as well as the sentiment. I love the linen thread. Your friend is going to love this card.
Have a great day and I hope a little cooler weather. It is hot in Fairport, New Yoprk also.
Hugs, Ellen Hinds
I think popping up does make a difference. Darn I wish that I invented those stampin’ vitamins….dimensionals – just think of how many of those we have PICKED OFF!!! Hugs to you Ellen.
Today’s card is the tops! Love the balance of it. Crumpling paper brings me back to my young school days when I would see how soft I could make a piece of paper when I was in school. Great technique! And I love the linen thread! Maryland? Good hair days?!?!?! Silly thought!!!!
BINGO…you are soooooo right, we did this when we were young nippers. The key is work it – work it – work it! Love the soft feel of the paper and the texture!
Susan, I don’t often post, but I do follow your blog regularly. I just want to tell you how much I enjoy your Step It Up Sunday posts!! It’s always fun to look at your Saturday card and think about what changes you might be making to step it up! It also makes me look closer at my cards to see how they can be improved. Thanks so much!
Many thanks for leaving a comment, I appreciate you popping in and I am thrilled that you find these 2 day posts helpful! Every week I think, should I do it again…and then I just GO FOR IT and it seems to work. Trust me, it is a teaching process for me as well ~ I enjoy the personal challenge as well!
After seeing yesterday’s card I thought you really needed some “white space” to set off the bold DSP but I was totally wrong! The added DSP balances things out wonderfully. thanks for reminding me about crumpling paper for texture; I haven’t done it for awhile. Hugs to everyone! 🙂
Crumble away! That could be our buddy Caleb’s job! He would love it. You know that I adore my “white space” but I was itchin’ to do something different. Hopefully my buddy is enjoying school!
Yesterday’s … nice. Today’s … WOW!
I try to learn from the best…YOU! YOU are the queen of using DSP to the max!
So beautiful! Today’s card has that extra “gorgeousness!” Love the crumpled paper tip. Good hair days are coming soon! Enjoy!
I agree – the crumbled paper just gives a fun feel. This is the time of the year that I love to do this!Come of Fall…I am ready to see the beauty of gorgeous color and crisp nights!
I agree with everyone that’s posted. Today’s card is a “winner, winner, chicken dinner” type of card. I really like the extra hounds-tooth DSP that coordinates with the envelope. Super job!
I am “clucking away” with smiles! Thanks for the comment, so glad that you liked it!
As the others have said, yesterday’s card was beautiful, but today’s card is a WOW! I love the extras on today’s card. I’ll have to look through my “Susan eyes” when making cards. Thanks for the tips. I’m always learning new things, which makes this hobby so much fun. You are awesome…don’t worry about good hair days or bad ones! I think today is going to be cooler, thank goodness. Enjoy your Sunday.
You are too sweet. I sure would love to look through many of your eyes as well. As I have said before, it would be the BEST for all of us to be together and stamp!!! It is much cooler (well the humidity is not as bad) so maybe my hair will behave – I need to go to a lunch meeting so I guess that I will have to look pretty!
I vote for Sunday’s stepped up card and love that houndstooth check pattern paper !
I am with you on both accounts! I am a huge fan of houndstooth and I was glad that we have it 2 times in paper!
Initially I had a hard time telling them apart! They are both so beautiful! Thanks for all the beautiful cards each day. Can we have an update on the animals and the peeps?
I am smiling from ear to ear….Yes, I will do an update! That would be fun!I will tell all of them that you asked about them, we will be having a doggie B-day party soon (shhhhhh….it is a surprise for Milo) it is almost a year that he became an Itell!
Today’s card is my favorite. Nice job!
YEAH….so glad that you liked it and that you popped in – hope you had a great weekend!
I did not think you could step your card up in any meaningful way but you really did it! I love that linen thread. It is the first thing I noticed different. You’d think that oh-so-obvious designer paper would be noticed but not at first because it fit there like it belonged. You sure did this one real good!
I am totally with you – I adore linen thread as it gives an INSTANT feel to a card. The patterns in the DSP Stack all complement but are all so different in there feel and print…I thought that it worked! Thanks for popping in!
Well, I know it it Monday, but I had to comment anyway. I do like Sunday’s version. It looked great yesterday but next to the step-up one . . . the white is WHITE. Both are really super and easy!
🙂
I’m back (it is Thursday) as we were having internet problems along with half the town. Anyway, I love today’s – I can’t believe that the houndstooth made that much difference but it sure did to me! Keeping this simple as I have hundreds of E-mails to get through.
I just love your cards! such beautiful work!
