Hip Hip Hooray….it’s Friday! I am feeling more like myself and I am hopeful that I have had my one and only cold this year! I am having so much fun with our week of Blog Candy fun…and today will be another keeper day as one lucky winner will win this fabulous stamp set, Lemon Zest!
Before we get to that and we have some business to take care of – let’s call it the stand up and stretch …..so how about it – stand up and give yourself a good stretch but if your name is Maureen you need to jump up and down and squeal like Daisy Mae would and then shake it – shake it….cause’ you won the A Little Wild Stamp Set from yesterday!
I ADORE the part that she said “I thought she was so talented……but I learned that SU is fun and easy” – Is that the BEST or what! So true…so true – there are soooo many tricks up our sleeves that make people say…..you really made that!!! Please email me and woot-woot to you!
p.s. – READ the comment to make sure you are the correct Maureen….this happened to me before that someone saw their name and was sooooo excited…but it ended up to be a different person as she did not read the comment….too darn funny!
I adore reading your comments and if you have not had the opportunity to do so….please consider this a huge treat to do so. Grab that extra cup of coffee and read the amazing comments that people have left as to when they started stamping. I think that you will see the general theme…once they caught the bug…it was nurtured, cherished…and still bloomin’!
The part that warms my heart is the common thread of “doing this” with a family member or friend most of you were introduced in that way….and then it happened, you were hooked.
Just think of the relationships you have made because of “this”…just think of the smile you have made because of “this”…just think of the “confidence and pride” you have given yourself because of “this”….
Guess what…“THIS” does make a difference!
O.k. – let’s get to todays card and I am SUPER excited to read your comments for todays question! I do not know about you but when a new catalog comes out….I do the usual flip through….take it in…..flip though again….take it in some more! I feel that I am a pretty good critic of picking out what I think is going to be a “keeper” in my eyes.
I like to call these items my Blue Ribbons or just “keepers” and this bundle….it’s a keeper! In my eyes there were several factors that made this bundle become an easy “keeper” for me.
- It’s a bundle…so right out of the gate it is a 10% savings and then I get an additional 25% off so here comes a woot-woot.
- The “bundle” part is a punch! (love it when SU has a new punch….fast!)
- The images are classics and the sentiments and fonts….another woot-woot! You can see a win-win all the way around!
I am sure that you have see a ca-zillion amazing projects made with this bundle but today I wanted to do something a bit different to add my own “twist” to the feel of the lemons!
What did I do to accomplish that???….“easy-peasy lemon squeezy”…after I stamped the images I crumbled them up and then opened then and smoothed them out to give our lemons some texture!
I have not done this in a while (actually I forgot about it) and when I was creating this I asked John what it needed….his answer – the lemons need some texture so PRESTO….I balled up a lemon and the rest is history!
Now how about that wee bit of Bakers Twine to add a POP….I have told you – BAKERS TWINE is the BEST…..such a quick and easy accent that is so affordable. I always like to do the “wrap” of the twine and adhere it to the back and then add the bow with a glue dot.
Once you get in a habit of using more that one strand of twine…you will never go back – it adds a bunch!
The envelope love…yep – another keeper…this is made from the Layered Leaves Embossing Folder. This one gives you such a “3D Dynamic Textured Impression” – definitely another “keeper” or “must have” in your craft stash! Thank you SU for continuing to come out with this amazing embossing folders!
Now for today’s question for you to comment on…
When you create and make a boo-boo…..do you let it roll…do you start over….do you repurpose it for another project…or do you just say – OOPS….it is Handmade – not Hallmark?
One lucky winner will win this stamp Set….
Lemon Zest….just leave a comment and GOOD LUCK!
Please leave me a comment and also let us know how you “make LEMONADE out of LEMONS” when you craft!…..and pop back tomorrow to see who won the stamp set!
There are 4 days and counting for you to take advantage of the Bonus Day offering…..for every $50.00 – you get a $5.00 coupon to spend in August….I feel like we are at Kohls as this is what they do and yep, I take advantage of it there as well! 😀
If your order of $75.00 or more….you will have a DOUPLE BONUS….a $5.00 off coupon from SU (you get $5.00 for each $50.00 increment) and then one from ME…..an opportunity to GO TO THE VAULT…..this is a private perk for you.
There are 100’s of stamp sets that have been retired and you can pick one free!!! Please use the hostess code of 4W9UWEG6 (current hostess codes are always on the right of my blog) Trust me, there are pricy stamp sets in there and if you want a bundle – no worries, I will gladly sell you the framelits that match your free stamp set at 50% off!
It is FILLED TO THE BRIM and all of the ones that were just discontinued (as of end of May) are in there…..I’ve been kinda worried about a couple of folks….they have been stuck in the vault for 2 days now….I hope you are not locked in! (your husband emailed me and he wants dinner!!!)
There is a bunch to take in as there are some amazing stamps, bundles and MORE…..
For our Weekend Post….we will be POPPING up with some DAISY’s...(and no, not my sweet swine Daisy Mae) but I have a East Coast/West Coast throw-down….stampin’ style going on…and YEP – more Blog Candy to end the week…my thanks for your amazing support to me!
Have a great day…..leave a comment and I will see you in the morning!
Hi! As a former kindergarten teacher I’m happy with most results! I usually cover mistakes with any embellishment or a label. Thanks for all the great ideas!
Cute and fresh card! I love the sentiment….perfect pick-me-up. When I make a “boo-boo” I try to see if an embellishment (twine, dots, etc.) could cover it up…sometime it works sometime not. If it’s a stamp error then I just do a flip of the paper and keep my fingers crossed. Our individuality shines through our work of art! ?
Hi. First of all, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used your phrase, “it’s handmade, not Hallmark,” especially to MYSELF, when I’m stressing over this-or-that being a millimeter out of place! If it’s on a card or tag I’m making for anyone who’s buying my work, or if it’s a really big boo-boo that will ruin the piece, then I just bite the bullet and start over. Most of the time, though, with a little bit of imagination I can figure out a way to work with it. Can’t go without saying I LOVE today’s card! You’re right–scrunching the lemons makes all the difference.
Punches usually save my oopsies!!
These lemon cards are so cute! When stamping, if there is a major error I will flip the paper over (there are always two chances to get it right!), but if it is small I usually cover it up or just let it go.
When my sister and I are stamping together and we make a boo-boo we will say, “This one is for an old person who can’t see well”. Not really! We usually cover it up with an embellishment, a ribbon or a stamped piece of cardstock. When all else fails we turn it over and start again.
If it’s a big boo-boo I try again – that’s why there’s 2 sides :). For little ones I try to cover them with an embellishment or another stamp. For slightly crooked words I’ve learned to let it go! Love the lemons!
Love this card, Susan, with the scrunched lemons and big bow. It depends on the boo-boo and to whom I’m sending the card as to how I handle it. Sometimes a sequin, bow, strip of ribbon, stamped image will cover, but sometimes starting over is the easy option. Glad you’re feeling better. Enjoy your day!
Extra Embellishments are known to make an appearance if I mess up. Sometimes you just have to scrap it and start over. I hate wasting so I usually use at least part of a project so my work is not a total waste.
If I mess up, I usually try to cover it up…often with a rhinestone or two or other embellishment. It’s rare that I throw something out. Made with love=made with mistakes!
When I mess up I get out the embellishments or a banner of some sort!
The sentiment on your adorable card made me hoot!!! I also appreciate the reminder of adding texture to your lemons!!
When I make a boo boo (pretty often) I look for ways to hide it with embellishing or a label. Like others, turning it over and a restart if it calls for it too. I found it oddly reassuring reading all the previous comments!!! ?
It is easier for me to start over then to stop and think “What can I do with this mess I just made” and try to salvage something I probably wouldn’t be happy with in the end anyway.
When I mess up I usually find a butterfly or some embellishment to cover it up. If that doesn’t work there is always the other side right?
I have the lemon bundle and have had fun using it for tags and cards this summer. I hadn’t thought to crumple the lemon. I am in the group with embellishments, banners and layers to cover the small mistakes. Will remember the “made with love = made with mistakes” tagline from Kris K. And stamping with Doris D and her sister would be a lot of laughs.
When I make mistakes…usually rocking the stamp…still trying to get that right…if it is not too bad, I let it go. If not, try the other side and it that doesn’t work I start over. This is a cute card and I really like the saying!
Love your card. The baker’s twine really sets it off. And, yes, I usually try to make lemonade from my lemon mistakes either covering up the boo.boo or putting it aside and using at least parts of it later.
If I can’t come up with a way to hide my mistake or work around it, (because of time) I usually say well it’s homemade and not Hallmark. Love your cards – keep them coming!
Cute card Susan! When I make a mistake, I do the paper ‘flip-over’ first and if I screw up a second time…I grab an embellishment large enough to cover my boo-boo.
Barbara
Well, it depends on the card and who it’s for. I tried ‘watercoloring’ with the aqua painter for a couple of masculine cards a few weeks ago. They just don’t look so great & they’re still sitting on my desk…I can’t decide whether to give them or toss them! When possible I try to cover up any mistakes 🙂 Sometimes I have to remind myself that it’s just a card lol
If I overstress about it then it’s no fun!
Hope your cold is fizzling out!
I just LOVE today’s lemon card, Susan! Cute triple twine treatment and crinkled lemons to create fun texture! When I make an oopsie, I figure out a way to save my creation. I’ve used sequins, or if it’s a sentiment stamped right on the base layer that’s crooked, I will cover it with a stamped banner. Usually a mistake can be fixed in some way; just be creative~
So many mistakes, so many embellishments to cover them! I never start over (I really hate to waste anything), but I often come up with very “creative” ways to hide my numerous errors. Anyway, aren’t mistakes just more opportunities for creativity?
I have a hard time leaving a mistake in the card. Usually I will turn it over, if possible, and try again on the other side. If it is easy to cover up with an embellishment or a popped up saying, I will do that. The lemon set and card are so cheery! Thanks for the chance to win.
I love your card today, and the baker’s twine really pulls it all together! If I make a boo-boo, and it can’t be easily covered, then I usually just reconfigure the card layout to hide it, and sometimes the reconfigured card turns out better than my first plan! But there are times when it has to be re-stamped!
Your cards are always a treat—neat idea to crumple the lemons!!
Handmade cards wouldn’t be handmade without us making mistakes. You can usually cover them over or flip the paper. Sometimes the pieces don’t fit together so I keep them aside for another project.
Love the crinkled up lemons…the texture is great!
You can make any kind of lemonade from different lemons!
When I make a mistake, I usually salvage what I can and re-think my approach to that card. After reading all that you have said about the SMJ here on your blog I can say I make fewer mistakes when I add sentiments to all my cards. I let my SMJ gather dust after getting so frustrated trying to use it but after your latest tip blog, I can say now I use it all the time and my sentiments are stamped exactly where I want them. Thank you Susan.
I’m glad you’re feeling better Susan. Summer colds are a real drag. Love the scrunched lemons. Makes the card unique. When I make a mistake, it depends how bad it is and who the card is for. I turn it over and try again or put an embellishment over it if I can. I’ve also noticed that sometimes “fixing” a card makes the whole thing better. I call it a happy mistake.
Love it! I don’t like to waste anything, so I usually find a way to make it work somehow. One of my friends who got me into SU, if it’s a little crooked, or off somehow, calls it an “obligatory” card! Using it for the mother in law, or the cousin that’s always a pain! So funny when we are all crafting together and she remarks, “oops, there’s one for the OC pile!”
I have made made my share of Oops. Once when crafting with a friend I was ready to throw out the card with the mistake. She took it and a couple of days later I received it in the mail with a piece of ribbon covering the oops. Now before I toss I look for a solution.
Love the crumbled lemons. Fun way to add the texture. Great card again. I try to find a way to cover up a little mistake. Just yesterday I cased the card you blogged about on Wednesday. I don’t have Paint Play so used Watercolor Words and a couple more sets to make all the little flowers. Well, when I added little centers to the small flowers, the edge of the stamp had a little espresso ink that smudged. So I took the bee from Touches of Texture and stamped the bee over my Boo Boo. Looks like I “planned” it that way.
As others have reported, what I do with a boo-boo depends on what the card is for and how bad it is. Using the other side or adding embellishments sometimes – other times doing it over – it’s only paper! (and I have a lot of paper)
I’ve been stamping a long time, and I seldom throw anything away. I will always find a away to make it work. I make it a challenge to myself to see how creative I can be with a mistake!!! Many times, I end up looking the mistake better than what it was supposed to look like! I love your site, Susan. I get many ideas from You!
Me, screw up a card or make a little mistake, surely you jest! Sometimes I can fix those planned mistakes and sometimes I just chuck it in the trash/recycle bin. I am learning to let go instead of brooding on it, I gotta sleep sometime. Crooked sentiment – that has become my trademark!
Love the lemons – boy, I have a hankering for some lemonade! I wonder if you could press it against some sandpaper for the little dimples that are on the lemons and limes? I need to go to the grocery store and check this out!
Hi, Susan I am open to all of the options when I make a boo-boo and they do happen! Its usually the last step=the sentiment so I will create a label or banner with the same sentiment and it’s “fixed” And as others have said that’s why I like embellishments too! If all else fails, it will be tossed in the recycle bin Love your card with the extra touch w the textured lemon peel!
LOVE the lemon card. That is such a great stamp set…….hope it comes to my house!!
It depends on how bad the “boo-boo” is on the card. Most of the time I will try to salvage the card with some background “spots” or maybe covering with a printed label sentiment or maybe fussy-cutting a feature out & covering the “boo-boo”. But, once in a while it is a total lost & it is tossed. But, thank goodness paper has 2 sides!!
Great idea for texture on lemons and so simple. If I make a boo boo I just modify the project to work or cover it up. Bling is a great cover up when the stamps a little off.
Love, love, love the lemon card and that lovely scrunched up and smoothed out texture. The triple twine treatment really soars this card over the moon.
As for boo-boos, I just don’t make them. HA! Just kidding, big time. Small mistakes get left as is (hell, honey, it’s hand did) and bigger ones get covered up or replaced. Sometimes though I just keep making the mistake worse and worse until I have the prettiest piece of trash you ever did see.
Sometimes when I’m not sure about a card, I toss it off to the side of my desk or stick in some random pile. That way I can judge it again later when I find it again. Often time smoothes things out and I decide, “hey that card ain’t half bad.”
I don’t need to win a lemon set because Mister Brown will be leaving one just for me sometime this evening. So if you pick me, just wave and go on to pick someone else who needs lemons for lemonade.
Enjoyed your card. Love how you gave the lemons some extra texture. I loved the sentiment, sums up how I’ve been feeling lately. When I make a boo-boo on a card I cover it up with some stamping or bling. Can’t go wrong with a little bling. Thanks for the chance to win.
I love this card The texture on the lemons is fantastic. When I make a mistake, I try to fix it with some placement of an embellishment or a banner for the sentiment if the mistake small. Most of the time it’s when I have glued a panel to the card base and it becomes trash.
Goofs are challenging. But generally I flub up the stamp on the putside or inside of the card so I add a punch with the greeting to cover up the mistake. If it’s a card design that doesn’t really work for me, I’ll start over and save the work I’ve done to use for another card or figure out how to make it better later.
Oh . . . I hate to throw anything out. I try to figure a way or keep for future use. This is sometimes my inspiration pile. Love the textured lemons! 🙂
🙂
I have a PHD in Mistake Creation but just an associate’s degree in Reparation! I have been known to hack up a card to save the one small piece that’s good, but like everyone else, it’s “embellish, embellish, embellish” most of the time. Thanks heavens SU has such cute options!
Super cute card Susan! I love the texture from crumpling the card stock. Oh I have definitely been guilty of all three – “fixing” it on the spot, chucking the boo-boo straight into the circular file and lovingly place it in my Unfinished basket to be looked at later.
Hi! Really cute card. Unfortunately, I’m a little OCD. If I make a boo-boo, I try to hide it or if I can’t stand it, I throw it away.
I try to repurpose a card if I make a “Boo Boo” or HIDE it so that it can’t be seen on the card I am making.
I also like that you embossed the envelope flap; hadn’t thought of that idea (and I love embossed stuff!).
(Hopefully my first post did not take, I got distracted with a phone call…)depending on the extent of the boo boo, I may or may not start over. If its a total loss, def start over. If I can hide it with a ribbon, sequin or butterfly, etc then I will happily do that. Some erasers work magic too.
Susan – You’ve created another awesome card and I LOVE this stamp set!
When I make a mistake and can’t find a way to cover it or fix it, the card goes into my personal sample card box. Then I make a second card to be given away! Usually the second card comes out better!
Very nice card. I do the same when I receive my new catalog. It takes me a few times to thumb through it before I decide what I really want to purchase.
If I make a boo-boo, I can’t let it go. Depending on how severe the boo-boo is, I will attempt to fix it, cover it up with something or sometimes, yes, I will start over again. I know it’s not a Hallmark, but a boo-boo shows a flaw in my workmanship.
I would love to win this set! Let me tell you just recently when I took another stroll thru the catalog, I saw this set and thought, who would want this set. Then I went on looking and stopped and thought about the set again. It has funny sentiments, which I love. It also has core fruit pieces that can be used for a lot of kinds of cards. The slice of lemon-love that!! So after all of this thinking, I now WANT this set!!
When I make mistakes on a card, depending on how big or bad it is, I tend to start over, saying to myself, it’s not professional looking. I’ve tried more lately to disguise it, great tips from other card makers, and then there’s the times even more recently where I say, it’s all good. After all, the card recipients don’t know what it’s supposed to look like!!!
You have made that lemon very sweet! I love how you turned a lemon into such a gorgeous card. Who would have thought of this but you.
I am so messy when it comes to stamping. Most of the time I have smeared ink in numerous places and can’t possibly cover it up.
I just turn over the card stock and start again. If it is small I try to fit perhaps a small bee or butterfly in among the flowers to cover my ink blob.
Thank you for another chance at winning some candy.
