Happy Thursday to all!!! Today is a very special day for my dear friends son…the milestone that I am asking you to think back to…Ethan turns16 today! So I have a question for you today and it will be a hoot to see the responses…
Do you remember when you turned 16…
Well by now you know me…I love to share stories with you! I am the youngest of 4 and I have clear memories of dreaming about turning 16 and getting my drivers license…I felt like Cinderella waiting for midnight and then I was going to feel different… (just super excited to get my drivers license)
I remember having a special dinner with my parents and grandparents and that one of the gifts I received was a pair of Corduroys that were all different colors….(I would absolutely die if I ever saw a picture of me in them) - I do not know how to explain them but I was super preppy and the legs were each a different color - pink on the front…lime green….bright blue and yellow ( I think they were called panel pants) –
I think Hannah would have croaked if I gave her a pair of these gems for her 16th!
Now Ethan is hitting his milestone today and I cannot believe it…as I type this I look up at a picture of him while we were on a vacation together and seeing him eat little mini hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls….and to think that now he is taller than I am…has this deep voice…has grown into a independent, fun athletic young man that loves his family and school! Happy special day to YOU!!!
Let's get to the card and still another story…I am sure you have all felt this way before…when you see a card that you love…one that always comes back into your head – well this is the inspiration I felt about this card!
Last June, my dear friend, Brian King made this card for his uplines son when he was taking his drivers test…the second I saw it I knew that I was going to CASE it…well this is another reason I love what I do and I love being a PAL…
I had emailed Brian to see if I could CASE it for my blog and immediately I received an email – ABSOLUTELY! Here is Brian's card…he is one amazing person and a TON OF FUN….and a super talented demonstrator….I just adore him and proud to call him my friend!

Being a part Stampin' Up! and being so lucky to be aligned with such a great group of positive minded people that really work and share their talents…fills my tank to FULL!!!
To me, you cannot get a card that is any cuter…appropriate for a 16 year old…clean…classic and clean!!! A winner all the way around!
Because I am also going to play with the Pals Pals Arts today and I feel like the “Moon and the Stars” were lined up for me today – perfect timing with this great sketch and Ethan’s birthday!

The card size is 5” X 7” and today….I know that this is rare – but I did not make an envelope as I am personally going to deliver this to Ethan with a big batch of yummy brownies for him!!!
This card is CRAZY easy – you do not need me but here you go!
The “focal” whisper white is 4 ¾” X 6 ¾” and then the strip of black paper is ¾” wide.

The “traffic lights” were a cinch to make…thanks to the Artisan Label Punch. I used Black Staz On ink…to me the BEST black ink!
Are you wondering about how I got the “words” on the lights? I simple ran the card stock thru my printer and then used the 1” punch to make the magic happen!
The colors I used were real red, daffodil delight and gumball green and then a stampin dimensional on the back…presto – too darn cute!!!
Let’s talk about this incredible sentiment…it sure does make a statement doesn’t it! Again, so easy! This is from the new Countless Sayings 2 Photopolymyer Set and it is a keeper! Just love these clear stamps!

I then matted this to a piece of Real Red a “smidge” larger – that 1/8” to me and YES – I popped out a bunch of punches to save paper and then adhered it to the base!
I know that Ethan will appreciate his card and he will really love his brownies…ready for this – layer of Chocolate Chip Cookies…topped with Double Stuff Oreos and then a brownie mix…bake and get ready to eat a piece of heaven! YUMMERS!!!
As the Spicher kids were growing up and we would be together for a dinner…they would all say at the same time….after we said a prayer….just love these kids and the family times we have together!
"Miss Susan" is a gooooooood cooker!!!!
Don't forget about the blog candy that I will be giving away tomorrow! Please check back to yesterdays post to read how you can win a FREE Sale-a-bration goodie of your choice by seeing if you can figure out what Birthday Card I am going to make for my son, Will's 27th Birthday!!!!
There have been some ready great ideas…but I can say – no one has nailed it yet!!!
Thanks for letting me go down Memory Lane with you…now do you remember when you turned 16? My Mom always cooked one of my favorite meals – BBQ Country Style Spare Ribs, Baked Pineapple and a yummy salad…her homemade Chocolate Cake and the best icing in the whole wide world! Great memories – I miss her! Still can't get that icing "just right like she did!!
Have a great day…I thank you for your comments & feedback – you make me smile, you make me love to create…you enrich me to believe in Stampin' Up! even more!!!
I do see 1st hand what a difference this makes to so many peoples lives….wowzers….some time to make a card and let them know you're thinking of them…PRICELESS!
Until tomorrow!

My sweet sixteen I can remember my parents have a party for me in our basement we live on Long Island in New York and came from Brooklyn so I was missing my friends. The party was going well until some kids that weren’t invited crashed it…my father threw them out of course and then there was a knock at the door….MY BEST FRIEND FROM BROOKLYN WAS AT THE DOOR WE SHARE THE SAME BIRTHDAY I can tell you I remember it like it was yesterday and I am not 62! Those were the great days when you could leave your door open when you left the home, kids could play in the street and not worry about getting abducted…and we played games outside – jump rope, hide and seek, hop scotch etc etc…DO THE KIDS TODAY KNOW ANY OF THOSE GAMES? LOL Thanks for sending us down memory lane!
What a GORGEOUS card. My son will turn 16 later this year… I will CASE you for sure!! Thanks for the early morning smile!!
Love your memories and I hear you…it saddens me that children just do not have simple fun anymore…but I will say – that this family that the card is for…we have soooo many memories of getting together and the kids going into the basement making up a show…calling the parents down and we would laugh and laugh….the ages span from Mark (her youngest that is 13 to my Will that will be 27 tomorrow) so poor Markie always got the roles that only the youngest would get!!!! Hugs!
What a super cute card!
Susan ! Such a great card ! I know it will be greatly appreciated especially since it goes with Brownies !
Ah, yes the memories….”light the corners of my mind”.
And to top it off you feature the big sweetie Brian King (who happens to be my upline) All that together makes a terrific Thursday !
Susan, I couldn’t adore you more than I do. What an honor to have my design cased by you. Thanks for the kind shoutout! I know he will love this card. Brian
A super card for that magical numbered birthday! Your version and Brian’s original are both terrific! My youngest would have appreciated the driving reference, almost 7 years ago (yikes, time does fly!).
My “sweet 16” happened while I was at a 3 week writing camp. My mom and I made arrangements with the camp kitchen to have a birthday cake and ice cream. My mom sent me flowers via FTD, which was really the most amazing thing about the day to me! That and the sweet kiss in the cheek from the nicest guy at camp! I remember the kiss, but I don’t remember the boy’s name. I could go into some detail on the flowers, though! As for the driver’s license, I didn’t get my driver’s education in-car section of the class when I was “supposed to” because we moved to a different part of the state when I was 15, and I got lost in the shuffle. In NC, you have to have driver’s ed in order to get a license. It is still that way, or wait until you are 18. Due to the mix-up, I didn’t get my license until I was almost 17. Of my family, only my youngest got all her ducks to line up right to get her license the day after she turned 16. The only duck out of line happened when she turned 15 on Sunday, and, so, couldn’t get her permit until the day after she turned 15. You have to have the permit for 1 full year, or turn 18, before you can get the license. So, 15 plus 1 day, therefore, 16 plus one day!
Yow! That was a lot of babble!
Have a good day! Oh, yeah, on those brownies you mentioned, the chocolate chip cookies on the bottom, are those whole cookies, or cookie dough? (I’ve seen a recipe with cookie dough on the bottom and brownie batter on the top.)
I thought I recognized this style of card!! I have 10 demonstrators that I follow faithfully but several of you I visit daily!! That would be Mary, Brian, and you! It takes A LOT of work to post everyday especially when you have a CARD A DAY! I love visiting with you each morning with my coffee!! 🙂 I will admit that sometimes life gets in the way but I always come back and catch up! 🙂 Love your card!
Very cute card.
Tonya’s 3 blog favorites are mine too. I look at many, but save the best three for last.
For my 16th birthday (some 64 years ago ) my mother had a surprise party for me after
school. I came home and all my girlfriends were there to surprise me. What fun
Cute card, Susan and I like yours also, Brian. I have three grandkids turning 16 in July and variations of these cards will be wonderful. Thank’s to you both for the inspiration.
Adorable card! Love the traffic light’ Wish I knew someone turning 16.
16 was a big year for me–I got my driver’s license and a new car, graduated from high school, and got a job at IBM. Where did the years ago…
I remember Brian’s card. Love both versions. Clever, clever use of that punch!
My sweet 16 was memorable because it was horrible. It was July and my mom decided to drive us from Wisconsin to Florida to visit Disney. Halfway there I broke out in chicken pox. Those nasty things were inside, outside, and all around my face and body. I had a high fever and I looked and felt awful. I went to the park one day and the people parted like the Red Sea for Moses when they caught an eyeful of me. No celebration that year. Luckily, 18, 21, 25, 40, and 50 were much better years!
What a great card for a 16 year old’s birthday. Love it! I remember my parents gave me a surprise birthday party and it was a surprise too. It was so much fun. I had to go on a scavenger hunt to find my presents. I also received a very special gift. My birthstone is the diamond and my Grandmother promised that she would give me her diamond on my 16th birthday. (My Grandfather passed before I was born.) Well she passed before my 16th, but my parents had her diamond put in a heart shape setting and gave it to me on my 16th. I treasure it everyday. That was …. years ago.
Love this card and Brian’s. will case for sure when Ariane gets her license. Tfs
Hi, I’m from Brooklyn and live in Massapequa. Long Island. Where are you? Maybe we could get together. 🙂
Susan, Your words in the traffic lights are so clever! What a wonderful card!
Susan…you have done it again! Any 16 year old would LOVE this card. Of course, you know the first thing they would think of…DRIVING.
I love your take on Brian’s card. The words are a neat addition.
