This is a GREAT day for sooooo many reasons! I am super excited about today's post as I have the honor to be the guest stamper of my dear friend and fearless leader….Mary Fish! I am always so darn tootin' excited when I can be her guest!
If you have never popped on my blog before…WELCOME….and yes, I do blog daily (like Mary) and I have learned from the best….I love what I do and I love inspiring YOU! Please subscribe to my blog if you wish!
I have a confession and one that I am sure that all of my "peeps" will acknowledge….I love monograms…I love initials… All around my home you will find "personalized touches" and when the "peeps" were "little peeps" I was a representative for a children's clothing company that specialized with color coordinating clothes and monograms were the star!
In looking at pictures….they DREAD how I dressed them but I still think that they were adorable! ENOUGH WITH MEMORY LANE (darn, I love going down that lane)…..today's post will highlight how you can take one stamp set and make a great set of note-card for ANYONE!
The stamp set that I used for today is one that I can just about guarantee that you have "passed" on because I admit…it is very $$$$$ but you need to think past that as it is so darn versatile! It is called Larger than Life and it is just that!
The minute the new catalog came out in the Spring, I adored this stamp set but I thought "Should I get it now….or wait"….I am always honest (about the in's and out's of products) but I knew that deep down – I needed it. I used a 50% off on it and you can do the same by having a cyber event…..please email me and I will help you reach your goals!
Now I say to myself, "Silly Susan"….just look at how many gifts you can make with this clean and classic stamp….and I LOVE IT!
O.k. – let's get to it as it s a fun project and I hope that I have inspired you to give this stamp set a try and also do this! Just think about how many different people you can give this to! I invite you to think of:
- Friends
- Family
- Hairdresser
- Co-Worker
- Mother in Laws….Sister in laws
- Kids in College
- Teachers
- Birthday Gifts (everyone needs thank you notes)
- Hostess Gift
You can see that the list is endless and fun! This is a GREAT way to use up DSP that you have and also it is sooooo darn tootin' affordable using the Note-cards that Stampin Up! offers…..WOOT-WOOT……you get 20 cards & Envelopes for just $5.95!
- The simple scoop on making this box is….for the bottom, cut your card stock to 7 1/4" X 5 3/4" and then using the Simply Scored – I score at the 1" mark all around (see the below picture to see how I "cut in" on the ends as well as placed the sticky strip!)
- For the "Top", I suggest that you make is a "smidge larger" to fit nicely over it! The dimensions for this are 7 3/8" X 5 7/8" and do the same as you did for the bottom!
- You all know by now that every Tuesday, Stampin' Up! is wonderful in offering "deals for a week" and I love the challenge in incorporating them into my posts!
You can see that I have used the Deco Labels Framelits to create the center of the box along with the help of the Window Sheets. (You could easily skip this step but I think it makes it "finished & fun"….also it help you see whose initial it is!!!)
- For the note-card….it is already ready cut with the Stampin' Ups! help but then I cut a white piece just a 1/4" smaller (4 3/4" X 3 1/4") and then scored it at 1/4" all around to give it some depth! Have fun with the colors of your choose and also the DSP!
- For the back flaps of the envelopes….easy-peasy – I just take a piece of DSP that is 5 1/4"" X 2" and then run a very, very thin bead of "green glue" (mono) just around the edges of the envelope….place the DSP on it….let it set it a bit and then PRESTO – cut the excess away! LOVE IT!
( I will say that I usually cut my DSP in 6" width so if I am using it with the Envelope Liner Framelit, they are good to go but if you are doing it this method, you can get by with cutting the paper smaller)
I love picking out the DSP for the person's personality, I think that this gives this project a great "personal touch" and one that I know will be well received and very useful. I can get at least (8) cards and envelopes in a box….want to make it larger, no worries – just make our box depth larger!
- Simply Stamp the "initial of your choice" with the "color of your choice" and PRESTO – you are good to go!
- If you are making the "solid" color box top and then want to embellish it with coordinating paper (like the below "m" one) – those measurements are (2) pieces at 5 1/4" X 3/4" and (2) pieces at 3 3/4" X 3/4"….This truly carries the theme of your gift!
Have fun and mix up what you have! You can easily decorate the boxes in so many ways! I am just crazy about this project and I already have 15 boxes made for friends and family! I am a "big believer" of handmade gifts….they touch the heart and they are remembered!

Love this! Thanks for sharing! Just a question though – for the envelope flap – do you just cut the DSP by hand or is there some other trick to doing it?
Hi Pam and thanks for the comment! I did go back and add a “blurb” about how I do the back flaps….it is sooo darn easy.
Just take a piece of DSP that is larger….like 5 1/4″ X 2″ and then place a tiny bit of adhesive around the edges of the flap…..place the DSP on and cut away the excess!
PRESTO….a beautiful envelope! Have fun…..
What a WOW! collection. Thank you for being my guest stamper today. It’s such a pleasure to share your work.
Did you score on the note card @ 1/4″?
Susan thank you so much for this amazing idea for gift giving! You just solved a dilemma for me! As luck would have it I just ordered this set for FREE last week as part of the convention challenge! Woot woot! So glad I did. I debated. I really appreciate your detailed measurements and instructions. Have a blessed Sunday.
Thanks for the chance to win blog candy. My favorite thanksgiving tradition is getting together with family…and eating corn bread and mashed potatoes!
Hmmmm….that really is a nice stamp set. Maybe I will try the half price thing next month.
Love the cards and box. Excellent gift for anyone.
Blessings!
Susan, I love these card sets! I will definitely be ordering this set so I can make gifts. What a wow idea and presentation. You are something else! Thanks!
Can you tell me how many cards you usually put in your box?
This is a keeper project ! I give my sister a set of cards I have made from time to time for her to use . Even if I don`t use the monogram idea I can surely use this box size for an assortment of stamped notecards !
You are truly the “Box Queen” and I love your easy to follow directions . I can see where my Sunday afternoon is headed …..
I LOVE this idea–you just gave me the perfect solution for a couple of exchange gifts! Thanks! (This is why I tune in every day)Better get stampin’…
What wonderful gifts and thank you for the instructions. I hadn’t given this stamp set a second look but you’ve shined a whole new light on it.
Wow. Very professional looking! Amazing gift idea. You are very thoughtful and talented.
Love this! I love the simplicity of it and how great they look! This is a most do for some Christmas gifts. Thanks for sharing.
Simply elegant. I’m one of those people who immediately loved this alphabet but cringed at the price! May have to reconsider. It’s perfect for this. Thanks for sharing.
Great project, thanks for sharing and thanks for the for the box instructions!
Great gift idea!! I like to give small homemade gifts. I always hope that the receiver enjoys them & realizes that I took the time to think about them individually. It was interesting to read the comments on how many people believe in traditions & keeping them going in each family. I love Thanksgiving…….it is just about family, food & tradition!! LOVE IT!! Thanks for a chance to win.
Traditions in our family….. Thanksgiving is now with my husband’s family, we used to spend it with my family because my husband’s family is spread out. But now my family is gone….. Christmas traditions are looking at all the lights around town, going out for dinner for my Mom’s birthday that was only 6 days before Christmas, decorating a small tree for each one of my boys with their own special ornaments.
What a great idea for so many holidays and birthdays. Monograms are so classic and good for anyone on your list! Everyone can use monogramed stationary. Thanks for the great idea and I know I will be using it and your wonderful explanation of how to do it step by step.
WOW!!! What a great idea! Definitely going to be making some of these…though I don’t currently own that stamp set. (My wish list just keeps getting longer and longer. LOL)
I will share another Thanksgiving tradition (just because we LOVE your brownies so much. 🙂 After our Thanksgiving dinner we start to get out the Christmas decorations and get 1 (of about 5) trees set up. I love going through the ornaments that my children received each year and taking a trip down memory lane with them. Of course they pretend they don’t like doing it, but from the laughs and comments I know they look forward to it as much as I do!
I decorate for Fall to the hilt! Thanksgiving is the culmination and dinner is always at our house, with me doing most of the cooking (turkey, ham, pie and the usual side dishes). We’ve done this for over forty years, but last year we broke tradition and flew ‘home’ to Oregon to spend the holiday with my husband’s mother and siblings and with my father, something very different. We played bingo after dinner and the prizes were inexpensive trinkets…so much fun that my family now plays when we get together here. Looking forward to playing with the five of seven grandkids who can be with us. All the decorations come down on Friday and the tree and Christmas decorations go up! No Black Friday shopping for me, please! ;o)
Susan, you just keep coming up with such cute ideas to tuck little goodies into! What a nice way to say “Thank You” to someone or to brighten another person’s day by just blessing them with these note cards! Love it~
What a great idea and gift to give! Just love it, Susan! Family traditions are the best….new ones can be made and old ones never forgotten. Turkey day starts with the guys golfing (brrr), then dinner with family and friends (25 peeps) and ends with fun, laughter and lots of love! My daughters and I go to NYC on Saturday for some “rest and relaxation!”
My comment about Thanksgiving is – a mixture of traditional and some new is always good – something for everybody. Now, about your project, I definitely need to order some notecard size on my next order! Have a good “Happy Thanksgiving”.
Fantastic project Susan! I love 3D projects and this set may make in on my wish list, I had the same hesitation. But what great opportunities it holds…
Susan, I love this idea! Such a beautiful gift, but inexpensive. I am definitely going to use this idea! Love your blog! You have such a clean style that makes everything classy. Fabulous job!
Wow! What a beautiful idea… I am going to use your idea for a gift I need… Thanks for the great directions.
Love the type style of your initials. Will put this set on my wish list. Thanks for sharing!
Love this card set and box! Ummm, I used to be an “H” – my maiden name was High but you didn’t know that. So, I guess I will just have to wonder if I will get a set or not!
You will have to share a photo of the kids in their color coordinating clothes!
A wonderful project again! I haven’t read yesterday’s post or Mary’s yet so I better get on it!
I have always liked monograms, too. So glad Mary featured your work today:)
THIS is a lovely and simple project, good for many occasions and a
great way to use that lovely DSP! Thanks for the inspiration and the
tutorial. Beth Jones
Oooo, pretty Susan ,I love how you you put it all together , vary crafty , like always , I left a comment on MsMary blog but it didn’t show , I don’t know where it went , sometimes that happens to my comments on her blog 🙁
So sorry,
Ok, you and yours have a wonderful Thankgiving,
Hugs Frenchie ,
What a great way to personalize a gift for “someone who has everything”. I like the lower case letters with such clean and simple lines.
What a great gift! Thanksgiving traditions – had to be at my Mama’s/Grandmama’s, 13 plus at the table. Everyone brought their special offering to add to Mama’s signature dressing and turkey and country ham and rum cake. Ah, could write a book about our family Thanksgivings!
Happy Thanksgiving to you snd your family. And thanks for shaing your passion with us!
I really love this idea and will use it…thank you! At Thanksgiving, when my family comes, (grown kids and grands) I have them write down something they are thankful for in the last year, on parchment paper. My husband and I do it also. Then I put them in crescent rolls and bake the rolls. The parchment paper doesn’t burn or effect the taste. Then at dinner time, we pass the rolls and enjoy our dinner. Each finds their “message” at a different time during dinner and just puts it aside. After dinner and before dessert, we go around the table and read what is on our message, talk about it, and try to guess who wrote it. It has been amazing to see our grandkids open up and share…… I love this Tradition and hope my “kids and grands” will keep it going :0)
I am so glad I recently found your web site! You have such great ideas, I just don’t have time to make them all, but I am trying!!
As for Thanksgiving, our family sticks to our traditional meal. We are not very adventurous! However, we do have our dinner on Wednesday evening. My daughter and her family always travel out of town on Thanksgiving Day to visit with her husband’s family. So my husband and I have a quiet Thanksgiving Day and eat left overs or go out to eat!
Love the monogram cards!
I think my favorite Thanksgiving tradition is a Thankful Notebook we started many years ago. Each year we add to it what we are thankful for that year & then we can look back & remember the things from the years before. I had looked over this set but now I want it!
Thank you! I don’t know why I’ve never thought to do this with the outside of an envelope! They look great!
