Did you see the date today….yep – it is June 25th and we know what that means…6 months from now it will be Christmas. I say YIKES…REALLY….WHAT HAPPENED…wowzers, time sure does fly! I thought it would be "fitting" to honor this milestone and I am sure that I am hearing lots of sighs…
This is my kind of card…simple and to the point! This would be a super easy card to "mass produce", something that many of us like to do with our Holiday Cards. I know that many of you like to make several cards and then make multiples of them – this is one card that I would not forget about!
The DSP is from the Merry Moments DSP and from one piece of of DSP, you can make 12 cards as the width of the DSP is 2" - and then matted a "smidge larger" in Old Olive. (Now don't forget use the inside of this paper to pop out punches etc…as you will be covering it up)
I also used the new Heavy Weight Whisper White Cardstock….LOVE IT – once you use it, you will not go back. The other thing is that the "White's match"(so you can easily use our regular whisper white layered on top) I know that this sounds crazy but trust me…you can put 5 sheets of paper that are white from different sources and they all look a bit different.
I was THRILLED that Stampin' Up! carried over this fabulous stamp set, Festival of Trees and it also comes as a bundle which will save you an instant 15%. I caution you when you order, if you want the bundle…make sure that you get the right numbers. (I cannot tell you how many times I see a punch and then forget to look for the bundle number)
The sentiment is from Sassy Salutations, and this is one of the very first stamp set I purchased when I was a customer. I have used it a ton and I still think the fun font today is as fabulous as I did back then, years ago! I call that a "keeper"!
I admit…I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig as how in the world would I have a crooked sentiment on such a clean and simple card!
Here is a great tip to save your DSP…for the envelope fun I used a scrap of real red and than ran it through the Big Shot with the SUPER FUN large Polka Dot Embossing folder….remember, this is on the weekly deals.
I like to do this as it saves you money but it still provides you a WOW and a fun card. I use "green glue" to adhere the card stock to back flap and let it "set up" and then trim off the excess.
Let's get some comments going…
- If you make Holiday Cards….when do you start to make them?
- Do you make all of your cards the same or make several different styles?
- Do you like to "mass produce" making your cards?
Many thanks for your sweet comments about James coming home…he arrived safe and sound and Leo has not stopped hopping all over the place…he was used to living in the city so our 30 acres is heaven to him.
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions and I hope to see you tomorrow….hopefully Jeanie will be coming over today or tomorrow so I can get to you her fun works of art!
Love the card….I always have good intentions of making christmas cards and before we had children I made christmas cards. Typically I make each family a different card, for I like to have an occasion/need for a card and then make a card for that person. I guess this is why my paper pumpkin gets done way after the month I receive them. It is hard for me to mass produce cards without the person in mind. Thanks for all the ideas and your quips about life on the farm. Wishing you a speedy recovery,
I am so glad that you are on the mend and that your son, James, has gotten a job in the area.
I usually make about 3 different Christmas cards and mass produce each of them along with special ones for my three children and 6 grandchildren. Actually, since each of the children has TWO children, I make only THREE different grandchildren cards and make two of each. That works for me!
So happy to hear James and Leo arrived safely. Love the simplicity and colors of this card! Wow….six months until Christmas….that’s right around the corner! I usually start in mid-October, early November making my cards. I mass produce cards from hubby and myself, peep #2 “hires” me for her cards and I make a different “holiday” card for work (in charge of sending out about 20). So, simple works for me! I have used several of your designs in the past and plan to continue on that route! Your inspiration is so appreciated, Susan! Thank you!
I make about 100 cards for Christmas and I start them in July. I may make 10 or 20 of some designs and maybe just a few of others. I see so many beautiful designs on your blog and others that I some point in December I have to force myself to stop making and start sending! But before I do I invite my girlfriends over for tea and show them my gallery of cards. It’s a fun afternoon.
Susan your card today is beautiful. It will definitely be one of mine. Thank you so much. Love it!
My hubby (Dan) would be in heaven with your 30 acres. I’m sure you wouldn’t mind if we built a house in the opposite corner as yours, would you? LOL. Caleb calls you “mom’s craftin’ buddy” so we could get together and craft like crazy while Caleb played with your pups and Dan played outside. HaHa. Glad James and Leo made it home safe and sound. Love your card today; I’m gonna have to CASE it. I generally make 3-4 different cards in assembly-line fashion. Each year I say I’m going to start making them earlier but always end up in crunch time. Thanks for giving me a kick-start today! I hope you are continuing to feel stronger. Cyber hugs!
I’ve almost always made all my Christmas cards different. But I only send 20/25 cards. Every now and then I find a design I love. So I make several of them, using different papers, and or embellishments. If my list were longer, I would probably mass produce them. I usually start in September or October. Love the card. TFS, Jess
I start making “sample” cards in May to send to my parents, aunt and uncle and grandmother so that they can choose what they want me to make for them to send to their friends. It averages about 100 cards that they request from me. I send five samples to them and typically they all pick a different one. Then I mass produce the requested quantity. The funny thing is that once I have made 100 for them, I am so sick of red and green that I make none for me to send:(. I hope your healing process is a smooth and quick one. You are an expert at it by now.
Pressure, pressure, oh, the pressure…only 6 months until Christmas, and all these people making 20-25-100 cards…what’s a girl to do?! (Finish the beach-theme card and take a nap, I think)
I mass produce and started in May, as I send 150 cards. This is fun for me tho, as I get together with a couple other gals on Thursday afternoons and that is when I do them, chat and eat junk food 🙂 I use the same stamp and this year it is the retired “Come to Bethlehem”. I have 75 finished. Can I hear a Woot Woot 🙂
Hi Susan, first of all, glad to hear that James arrived safely and that your recovery is progressing well. It was hard to hear that you had to go through that surgery again. You are a trooper! Next, thanks for the reminder of how quickly the year is passing – NOT! As for Christmas cards, I try to make a few special ones for certain family members but even though my intentions are good every year, I never get enough made for our list of about 80. I am a full time caregiver for my husband and it doesn’t leave me much time for crafting. Also, being a procrastinator in the worst way has a lot to do with my lack of card production!
BTW, I have been meaning to email you to tell you how much I love the shares I ordered from you. Your DSP swatch books are the BEST! Absolutely wonderful! Your label with all the info on the back is genius..how many times do I have to pull out an old catalog to find out which colors match? (Yeah, ok, I know I should have marked the package when it arrived…) Anyway, I am thrilled with everything! I’m so glad I ordered them. Thank you.
Hugs, Barbara C in SC
Thanks so much for this beautiful CAS card today. Glad you are improving and James and Leo arrived safely. I make about 75 cards and now that you’ve reminded us that Christmas is only 6 months away, I’d better get started. If I were industrious like poster Nana 4, I would have mine made by now. I don’t like to mass produce more than 6 of the same card. I also agree with an earlier poster that I keep seeing beautiful designs until the mailing deadline comes and it is hard to stop. Take care. You are amazing to not miss a beat with your postings. Have a great day!
Hi Susan! Happy to hear that James and Leo have arrived and that you’re feeling stronger. Prayers for a speedy recovery lifted!
I only send a few Christmas cards, I am the loser in this list! LOL. Time gets away from me with kid activities and all the extras that time of year. I usually send a photo card of my family and that works for me. What I have started doing is sending thank you cards that I’ve made instead. I work in a school system in the office and receive so many nice surprises so I really want to show my appreciation with a hand made thank you card. I may make 2 of the same, but usually switch to another design. I can’t believe that Christmas is 6 months away, holy cow!! A great reminder that I should take advantage of rainy days and get started now making my cards! I do like your simple Christmas tree card and could easily swap out the sentiment. Beautiful dsp pattern too! Take care~
Glad to hear that “Peep James ” made it home! I should have mentioned your couch picture yesterday. My daughter has two golden retrievers and if you get to the den last you don’t get a seat.
I usually start Christmas cards in December. This year will be different because I have been creating cards every day. I usually make a few different ones. I love your card today!
Love the comments. Love this card and that stamp set and punch are one of my favorites. Yesterday I saw a cool card made with this set and thought how fun it was using sky blue and gray. I thought why not make a couple of those and make it Christmas in July with a real note or letter in it. It gets too crazy at the holidays and I think I will CASE this one or that one and then don’t and the next thing I know it is New Years and not all were sent out. I typically go to the CTMH demo for her stamp a stack and we get to pick 4 different ones if we want. She usually has some religious ones so I send those to certain people and I don’t have to worry about coming up with an idea for them. She usually has a snowflake one so I can always use it for my Jewish friends in a pinch. This past year I did hers plus the SU demo did a fun thing. We each purchased a holiday set and the papers and embelishments for that card that was in the catalog. Then, we got together a couple different times and you could produce as many as you wanted of a certain card using all the sets that was purchased. That was a lot of fun and lots of choices. No way could I do more than 6 of the same design as I would get bored or start making mistakes etc. My husband buys cards and then doesn’t always get them sent or given out. He did ask for a couple special ones last year though for him to give to a couple people. I like to put them in a basket and set out – the ones I have made with the leftovers from past years. Sometimes someone drops by and starts looking in the basket and oohs and aahs over one so I say it is theirs! They can have more if they would like. I had a woman who would stop and get her special holiday coffee and then come over and purposely just look for her favorite card to give to someone. We would chat a bit and then she would go on her merry way. She passed away so I will miss this little meet and greet we had going.
You know what? I think this would be a great card to make in a quantity with maybe 4 cards all tied up with that cool cherry cobbler thick baker’s twine. I probably would switch the trees and maybe the envelope flap color once in awhile. They would make awesome little presents in case someone drops in or I want to send a little something to someone now and then! I think I will use up some of last years papers though for now.
Oh, I love having the time to really enjoy looking at holiday card and making them when it isn’t so harried and there is so many choices. Well, done post my friend! Have a great time with Jeanie. Looking forward to seeing her great ideas!
Cute card . Love Sassy Salutations ! Glad James and Leo are there and sounds like you are mending gracefully !
I start Xmas cards in the Fall and make my swap group cards alike usually . Family cards are done for each individually . The rest sent out are whatever strikes my fancy to create. One year I mass produced 120 cards because I was in a huge swap group . Do not have a clue what I am going to do this year. Time will tell ….but it is fun !
I couldn’t help but want to answer your questions about Christmas cards. Yes, I do make them….No, I do not mass produce, I make each card an individual. So there you have it. I also start making them as soon as I’m finished for that year’s cards, then I’ll stop for awhile and start back up in the summer. Cute card today, Susan! I love that fun sentiment!
Love your card today, very sweet and simple. My kind of card too! I agree that Sassy Salutations is a great stamp set. It was one of my first purchases from SU too. It has been around for awhile and I was surprised it was continued into this catalog’s offerings. Must be because it’ so’s versitle.
I usually make our holiday cards in the summer. I try to make them all the same, but there are so many fun options that I get sidetracked.
Enjoy all the “additions” to your family as I’m sure you will. Thanks for all your great ideas!
I usually start sometime in the fall but this year I have my summers off so maybe I will get an earlier start. I make all of mine the same so that I don’t have to decide which card to give who. I also mass produce, but it seems no matter what the style of my card I get bored with it about half way through 🙂
Dear Susan, the last couple of years my girlfriends and I get together once a week starting in July. We each bring everything we need to make your card. We each make 4-6 of that card. Then if we have enough time we start another person’s card and do the same. Last year we made 15,different cards with five to six of each design. We have a great time together. I love your card today. This will be part of our cards we are going to make this year. I am so glad your son and his dog made it safely home. Enjoy your family. Make sure you get better slowly. Hugs, Ellen Hinds
I like to start making my Christmas cards in July or August. Last year I didn’t start until October…oops! I make 15 cards in 6 different designs (we send a LOT of holiday greetings!)for friends and long distance family. For close family (and especially all of the children) I make individual cards. That’s what really takes me the longest to do. So, I do both…mass produce and individualize. And I love every minute of it!
I hear you…I hear you – we always have great intentions and I just always hope that people can sense that in us (ha-ha!) This is what I love about crafting…we all have that beautiful spirit!
Now that’s a GREAT plan….this is a funny story….my dear Mom had this funny friend that made her husband (2) Birthday Cards….she asked her, why do you have (2) – she looked at my Mom and said that she had never sealed the envelopes and that she tucks it back in and then the next year – she gives him the other one.
She said that she had done this for years and it worked!!!
It’s funny….my 3 kids will ask each other , What card did mom send you?
Oh Tricia…would that be heaven or what! Caleb would have a ball playing with the animals.
I usually try to find 2 or 3 cards that I really like and that I can do the good old assembly line…..that’s the line I love!
You made me laugh…..I do get John involved as well but it can ONLY BE ONE TASK AT A TIME….you know men, they cannot take 2 directions at one time!
He does a great job with punches watching sports until I’ll pop down stairs and say – where are they?? Then he’ll say – I’m sorry…..it was an important part of the game!
Awe…thanks Sharon – I really liked the card as well. With me having limited time and mobility I just let the paper be the star and it worked!
I am sooooo like that – when I need to stop making cards…I sneak in a couple more….I should do that for birthday cards – we can always use them!
You are my hero! WOWZERS….making 20 different cards – please send me one and I will blog about it!
Maybe we should do a Christmas in July Card Swap! I know that the holiday catalog would not be out yet….but who cares – we would all have fun!
Now I LOVE THIS – samples…..Jeanie – I hope that you are reading these comments as this is the icing on the cake!
If I did this I know what would happen…I would have my pick in my head and if everyone didn’t like it – I would say…well, what about this one….
You’ve got that right – I feel like 2015 has been a scootin’ year!
Now THAT SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN! I had my nap today, it was a bit disrupted by the Fed X guy….but that’s ok!
I am taking a DEEP BREATHE and I hope that you can hear the WOOT-WOOT….that is a fantastic stamp set and I am in awe that you are half way there….we are here to cheer you on…..
I know, half of the year already gone – unreal. I am sure that your time is limited….a true testament of love. I know that I always try to keep a baggie of things to work on…if it is punching out things….scoring….little by little they add up to be time savers.
SOOOOOO glad that you liked the swatches, they are a must for every level of crafter – just think about how many times we flipped through the catalog….I adore having the “real” pieces! Thanks for the comment ( I will do them again for the holiday catalog)
I know…and I hear you – Nana is putting us to shame. It is soooo darn hard to stop when there are so may great designs out there. I try to tell my self that I want them all done by Thanksgiving along with my Christmas Gifts…but that never seems to happen!
I like to make handmade gifts for the holidays so my focus after the cards is gifts from my hands!
I will say our house was HOPPING today – Leo is just taking it all in and I forgot what it was like to have a puppy int he house!
I always like to make a bunch of different thank yous and make them “holiday” as well…
I hope that you pop back over the weekend…I have a fun post that I think is great for thank yous for someone that works in schools!
I adore Goldens, they are the best – so laid back.(but hairy) There are may times that my fur babies will look at you like – excuse me, you are in my seat!
Awe…I know that you are going to miss your friend popping by….you will need to make a special card in her memory…that would make you feel good.
Great idea about the cherry cobbler Bakers Twine….I love it!
Jeanie and I yacked on the phone for a long time today….we’ll get together over the weekend….she is such a hoot.
Oh my Gosh Sonny – 120 cards – you are my hero!!! That was a HUGE swap….did you all do simple ones?
I know you were amazing…but not I REALLY know. I am sure that each and every card you make has that incredible “Roberta touch” to it…and I know that receivers are super lucky – you are a very talented stamper!
I was kind of surprised that it carried over but at the same time I was super happy…I adore the font! I bet that card making with your sisters is a real treat…or maybe you do it solo as I am sure there is lots of “yacking and laughing”
I hear you…it can get boring midstream but the best thing is once you are all finished…not only are you super proud of yourself…in your heart you know that you are going to making a bunch of people smile!
Enjoy your summer off!
Now THIS sounds like FUN and I am sure that once you all get rolling…you look forward to that day of the week…fun, fellowship and smiling!
This is a wonderful way to have fun making cards!
October works for me….when I make several different cards like this, I see how many I can get out of a sheet of DSP if I am working with a specific one for a liner etc….and then I make that amount to use up that certain paper…
I know that I have said this before, but with all of the great ideas out there…it is hard to narrow it down to which cards to make! Have fun…again this year (July is next week!!!)
Awesome Susan, I will! I should have stated in my first reply that I have time to squeeze in my thank you cards during the break if I run out before our last day. I am making a goal of having a few more done ahead of time this year! Can’t wait to see what you have to show us!!
Share a picture of Leo sometime. I bet he’s having a great time exploring!
Love the idea of a Christmas in July swap! Oh, the holiday catalog – I can’t wait for that to come! I have a couple holiday card ideas I want to CASE and I think I will jump on that idea just in case you do decide this is doable! Too bad the little jingle I hear is just Teddy with his big boy collar on and scratching his ear – if only Santa would come and drop $100 bill in my stocking – well my crew sock I guess – I could sign up for hobby demo status and then get a jump on that holiday catalog too!
I bet that set is still in the catalog telling me I had better order it finally! I keep saying I will order it and then something else pushes ahead on the list. I love reading your comments back to everyone. You are totally making my day!
