Is this calendar really right? I cannot believe that another month has ZOOMED by and I needed to sneak a Christmas in July card in for you! I did it in June and everyone was in denial about Christmas being 6 months away but now we are down to 5!
You know that I am working with limited supplies and here is a sneak peak from the new catalog! I know September 1st seems like ages away but it will fly around fast – this is the magical date of when the new catalog will be available for you to order from.
We made this card a convention at a make and take and I naturally had to add a couple of "Susan touches" to it….the bakers twine bow in multiple pieces and my signature "dots" – here is a game for you….look at this card and tell me:
- what I did differently than I normally do
- and why I did it and the 1st person to get it will win this card(well you know me, I'll have to send you more than this card….so look and be quick )
This is going to be a great stamp set to work with and to have fun with…You could easily adapt the "presents" as a Birthday Present…change the sentiment up – PRESTO, you have a new card!
At convention, we also learned a technique in how you twist the stamp completely around to make a "plaid print" – super fun and easy!
Do you see the peak of glimmer paper….oh so subtle and I am one that is not a huge fan of sparkle but I have learned from seeing some great ideas at convention on how you can do so in a very subtle way that actually gives a great accent!
Do you see that thin green ribbon….another new goodie that is a must have in the new catalog! You will be able to take advantage of all of the new goodies when I offer my Paper, Ribbon and Embellishment Share – this is the best way to get a "taste" without having all of the "calories – $$$$"
John's plane was delayed 4 hours yesterday and I had already left for the airport (1:45 minutes away)….so naturally I sat and sat (when I checked it was on time but the air conditioner was out in the plane….they had to get off and then finally had to board another plane) Unfortunately we missed Hannah's presentation but we had great intentions!
We are on the road and it will be great to be home but it has been a great time away! I hope that you are as excited about this stamp set as I am….it's a keeper!
You did BLACK dots and not WHITE…. It looks divine though! Susan, the ever talented “dot and dash” Lady!
Oh, and you did it because white would not have shown up on the white card stock!!
Black dots instead of white ones! Because of the white paper Beautiful card!!
I don’t see Dimensionals. Did you pop up sentiment with vertical embellishment instead?
LLL
Did you use the “kissing” technique on the gift stamp?
Sorry you missed the presentation. Sometimes life throws us a curve.
We just trust there was a reason for it that we can’t see right now.
Take care. Glad your injury survived all the fun at convention. Lol!
Hi Susan! Love your blog! I think you did your dots a little differently…in a row instead of the tripod or cluster of three dots that I’ve seen before. Just gorgeous!
Love your Christmas in July card! And your signature additions …
The whole card looks so complete, to me it is hard to tell. I am going to make this up . . . two different bows on the card because you ran out of baker’s twine.
🙂
Good Morning….we are getting ready to leave and I am enjoying a cup of coffee before we make the 10+ hour drive….
Nope…sorry Charlie….that was not it….keep looking and guess again!
Nope….I really think I might get you guys on this one!
I L♥ve this card, Susan! The first thing I noticed was the double use of bows….because you are NOT a bow person. You used a double twine bow on top and a single ribbon one on bottom so that you could hide whatever you used to hold down the sheer piece of vellum! Happy travels and be safe~
Nope…..I used my Stampin’ Vitamins…..how could I ever go a day without my vitamins! Keep trying…
Yes I did use that method on the gift…and they had used that method a bunch at convention – it really gives a great effect and it very subtle and fun!
That is not the answer I was looking for….keep looking at the card and look to see what I did different and why!!!!
I totally agree – there is always a reason….it was great for all of us to be together – we were able to go and meet all of her prefessors and had great one on one time with them!
Nope…try again!
Thanks for the sweet comment but that is not the answer – keep trying!
Your getting closer…..You have (1) of the elements right…..keep trying to get the other!
You and Nancy so far have the one element…the double bow….but there is still another element…..
Try again!
On the road – I’ll check comments later……dreading the drive but worth the rainbow at the end = HOME!
One is a bow and one is a knot – you ran out of ribbon??
BINGO?!?!?!
Love the card! My guess is going to be the strip of ribbon on the vellum as well as the double bows. Have a safe trip home!
Layered glitter, velum and multiple bows. You also layered the ribbon flat under the glitter paper. That is really new. Hmmm. Are you changing from simple Susan?
Beautiful card! You layered the ribbon instead of wrapping it around the card stock…..I think! So dun how you make us use our brains!
My first thought when I saw this was it’s not your usual card, there’s more elements than you’d normally include, but I love it. I’m going to guess the bows and the joy stamped on the package…it looks like thin ribbon on the little package and that you’ve stamped over that or you’ve very carefully and skillfully fussy cut out that word joy….hard to tell from the picture. That or just the use of glitter paper, unusual for you but it does add a nice, subtle touch of bling. Have a safe trip home. The pets will be glad to see you!
I must admit that I’m stumped. I think it has to do with the way you used the ribbon and twine, but can’t be more specific. Most importantly, the card is beautiful. Can’t wait to get that stamp set, and you have helped tip the scale in favor of the striped ribbon for me.
I meant fun! My brain is still foggy!
I keep looking at that joy to figure it out so I can CASE it… maybe you’ve double stamped it: once on the circle and then on the box and layered them evenly since there is no thinlet to cut it out. Even if that’s not it, please tell us how you did it! 😉
Gorgeous card! I notice you tied one striped ribbon in a bow and the other in a knot to hold the white bakers twine bow. I’m trying to figure out how you got the stripe design from one stamp on to the present stamp? You are going to have to demo that trick for me. 🙂 Can’t wait for you to get home!!!!!
The whole kit-and-caboodle is in the center – instead of over a bit to the right or left. More plain macaron on the left than usual. You have more layers including elements like baker’s twine and ribbon with the ribbon (which is so fun with it’s stripe) having a bow at the bottom 1/3 to ground it, I assume as well as the knot where the baker’s twine double bow is. I don’t think you would have that many knots or bows in there. Also glimmer paper strip plus maybe vellum? Just seems like more than clean and simple but I think you need all that pizzazz to round out the Joy and present piece complete with black dots or a darker ink color. Oh wait, the ribbons and glimmer paper don’t stretch to the top and bottom of the card. Did you have precut ribbons and paper and decided to go with your favorite an odd sized card which looks square? It is missing your trade mark little three dots I think. Whatever I like the card and the colors. Just send me the darn card if I am correct or not! This is too early for me to be making all these judgement decisions! Looking forward to you showing us how to make the plaid – change the direction of the stamp? That bottom bow is hiding something maybe a glue dot gone wonky?!?
Have a safe trip home!
Well , I am glad to see what to do with this stamp set . It was not my fave in the catty ,but look at what you did with it . I am thinking there are two bows ….The Bakers Twine one is at the bottom . Shoot ….I don`t know . I just like the card !!
So sorry you missed the presentation ! But as mentioned above me in comments . there was a reason …glad you are heading home to rest that pitiful paw !!!
I’m guessing the two bows with the extra knot at the top with the striped ribbon. Also your dots don’t go all around the circle, the gift overlaps the edge on the bottom. There are more layers under your circle of “joy” than usual. Love the card!
Grrr…..! I’m going crazy here….just can’t figure it out … but it sure is a good-lookin’ card!
Enjoy your journey!
More layers than you usually use and black dots instead of white.
My guess is the know on the white bow to hide what you used to attach the vellum piece. Cute card! Safe travels. Hope James gave some love to Miss Piggy.
What a beautiful card! I love your cards so it is difficult to see what you did differently. I think it might be a single layer of ribbon instead of wrapping it plus a bow/knot at the top and bottom.
Regardless, beautiful!
The dots are not white.
You layered the baker’s twine bow and the striped ribbon bow on top of each other free standing without being tied to the ribbon underneath. The only baker’s twine is the bow…without having wrapped in around the card. Love this card. You are very talented and I love looking at your posts.
Good morning Susan,
Love this new stamp set and new ribbon in the red and green. Can make multiples of these real quick.
Fun game! It looks like the green knot is just glued to the white bow, not actually tied around it, I am not good at bows and use that shortcut a lot!
The new stripped ribbon used as a layer.
If you think my comments are long you ought to listen to my husband go on and on about stuff! I never can get a word In edgewise! Guess I will have to think about the Minion’s little crazy voice when he talks to block it out.
O.k. now the baker’s twine bow is bothering me as it has to be hiding a boo boo maybe. It just is not like you to mix both ribbon and twine. I saw the green ribbon on Mary’s preview video and it IS gorgeous! Oh, and the Joy circle part – did it get punched out too small so the present is nestled on the part with no dots all the way around? I personally love the present nestled at the bottom. Whatever the reason this card is a sheer JOY in my book and I think I will need this set. Oh, that reminds me – I need to make a birthday card for this afternoon or I could give it to her Monday as her birthday is Sunday.
I think I’ve got it this time, Susan. Aside from the double bows using twine for one and ribbon for the other, you added the name of the stamp set above the card. That is something I haven’t seen you do yet. And the reason is to emphasize the set so we get familiar with it~ Stamping Hugs
And you also added the stamp set with the title and your card in another photo~ Squee!
Hi Susan,
No envelope. You usually make an envelope to go with a card. Smile. I hope you had fun at Salt Lake City. I did!
I think what you did different, beside the bows, is you paper pierced the signature “dots” instead of inking them. Beautiful card and excellent way to upsell! 🙂
Very lovely card! The green bow is actually sitting on top of the white bow instead of being tied together. 🙂
A beautiful card. Looks like you used black dots vs. your usual white dashes and dots. Also might you have used the kiss technique on the gift box?
Safe travels home to all of you! I am thinking it is the way you used the green striped ribbon. On the top you did your normal knot around the baker’s twine and at the bottom you tied a normal bow with it. All I know is this stamp set is coming to my house. So many different ways to use those patterns. I see peppermint candies with the stripes. Great card!!
I can’t answer your questions…but I really like what you did with this card. I had to pull the one I made out to compare…yours is definitely stepped up! Thanks for sharing!
Safe travels home to all of you! I am thinking it is the way you used the green striped ribbon. On the top you did your normal knot around the baker’s twine and at the bottom you tied a normal bow with it. The other thing is your dots normally completely go around whatever image you have stamped. This time it only goes part way because the gift is at the bottom of the circle. I know is this stamp set is coming to my house. So many different ways to use those patterns. I see peppermint candies with the stripes. Great card!!

Safe travels home to all of you! I am thinking that the way you used the green striped ribbon is a little different. At the top you used a knot around the twine which you have done before and at the bottom it is a real bow. The other thing is your dots don’t surround the image because the gift box is at the bottom of the circle so your dots stop on either side of it. Whatever this is an awesome card. This stamp set has me spinning with ways to use it … stripped peppermint candies for sure!
Susan sorry for duplicates not sure what happened … operator error I guess!!
Safe travels home Susan! I think that you included the double bow and used a ballpoint pen for the dots as you didn’t have all of your supplies with you! 🙂
Love your card and this stamp set. It’s already on my list for Sept.
I know your challenge has something to do with the bows, but as to why I don’t know. Travel safely!
At first I thought you had pierced it then on a closer look I realized it was black dots. Beautiful. I like getting the little sparkle and that new green ribbon is beeeeeeutiful.
I’m going to go with the double bow baker’s twine & the way you tied the other 2 knots that you put on top of the ribbon.
Great card! You did your loops with the bakers twine and knotted it with a different piece of the thin green ribbon because Susan is bow challenged! Not sure but maybe!
I’m going to guess that you did not have your stamp-a-majig with you and so you had to eyeball the rows of trees. You did a nice job of it, if I am right. This card is really cute. It is so hard to be crafting and traveling. Limited supplies can be frustrating.
In addition to the double bows on this card, you did all DOTS this time, instead of dots and dashes! I think you were probably doing this in a hurry and did too many dots before your normal dash! So, instead of trying to ‘alter’ your dot/dash pattern, you just did all dots!
Very nice card. You used the kissing technique on the present.
I love your additions to the kit card! The dots on the circle really make it better. I’m not sure what it is you are asking about, that you did differently. I, too, made this card and I know what the sample looked like and I know that you’ve improved on the sample.
For those wondering about the “Joy” it was stamped directly on the package with the new archival Basic Black ink (terrific stuff!) which is coming out in the new holiday catalog, orderable Sept. 1 for the general public. I highly recommend putting it on the first order you make from the fabulous catalog!
I’m sorry, Susan, that you missed Hannah’s presentation. That part, and the broken airplane air conditioning, is a real bummer. I’m glad you got to meet the professors, though!
Safe travels! I know the animals will be as happy to see you as you will be to see them!
Cyberhugs!
Did you tie the middle of the double bakers twine bow off with a touch of the new green ribbon?
You didn’t do your signature triple dot and the bows. Love the card.
I think it’s the double bows over the glitter strip. You generally don’t use glitter, but the glimmer sheets are much less messy than glitter. Could be wrong, but we’ll see. Glad you’re home and safe. Hugs, Jess
I forgot to mention that the stamp set was along side with the title of it. My question was the paper and stuff all cut and ready to go for the make and take it? That might have something to do with running out of a piece of something etc. I think she just needs to make this card for everyone that commented!
Brian King said she won some bundle but I can’t really see a punch going with this set.
Susan better let us know soon so we can all get some rest!
Good grief, do I need to make an outline before I comment? I forgot no envelope so maybe if the items were all precut for the Make and Take it – none left to jazz up an envelope?
Oh, Chris, I like your idea of having Susan make a card for everyone who commented! I think we’ve waited long enough. If we don’t hear anything by tomorrow, well, I’m going to be very disappointed…..
No way – I would never change from Simple Susan!!!! Remember, this was a make-n-take that was already for us to do!
YOU are the one that has the super sharp brain…..my favorite sheep herder!
You sure did cover all of your bases….everything was already precut…all we needed to do was sit!
Close but no cigar!
Great try but not yet!
I am smiling!
True…but that’s not it!
Poor Daisey…I do not think that the guys gave her the love that her Mama usually does!
The double bow is one element……but why did I use the double bow?u
Great try as YES – I usually adore my white pen
Thank you for your sweet words….You really thought on this one…I think this card is fun!
YEP – This is a super easy one to make LOTS of!
That is true….but that is not the answer – hint – it does have something to do with the bows….
Nope but that ribbon is a must have!
I am STILL laughing about the Minion – I do not think I will ever stop thinking of that! Keep thinking….
No my friend…..
No piercing today but thanks for reminding me…I have not done that for a LONG time!
True but that is not it….I have done that before as I do think a simple piece of ribbon on top does add a great flair!
I did do the kissing technique…we now have lots of stamps to do that with – FUN!
Smart stamper – it is a keeper of stamps!
If you made it….YOU SHOULD GET IT….Go get your card and see the difference!
OOPS – I meant the above comment for you! Great stamp set
Now that is what I call thinking out of the box! No, I did have a SU black pen!
You will laugh when you find out!
Smart stamper…this is a GREAT ribbon and I adore that it is in both green and red
Double bows YES – but there is one more element!
You all know me too well….I am bow challenged!
SInce this was a make -n- take that SU did – I did have a Stamp-a-ma jig…Those trees are forgiving but that darn piece of plastic makes life easier!
Great try – I do love my dots and dashes!
That is true…and you will see lots more of that…
Hi Roomie……LOOK at your card that you made….it is right there – you will laugh when you realize what it was!
Yes I did!
You are correct about that but that is not what I am looking for!
You are right, I do not use glimmer paper much but this taught me that it does look sharp = not the answer yet!
