WOWZERS…We have never ever had this much snow before and to be honest with you….I would be “just fine” if it doesn’t happen again! It snowed ALL day yesterday (and actually it is still snowing as I type this at 7 p.m.) At the end of the post I will share with you some pictures of the snow….my fur babies. We were to get high winds last night so I am hoping and praying that the power behaves itself!
Make sure that you read to the end of the post as I am offering a personal special for you today….it is good for JUST TODAY!
Let’s get to it….I made some minor….minor changes that are a cinch to do and it is amazing how just a change up in (3) things makes a difference. Some may like it, some may not and that is just fine…my goal is to try to share and inspire you to try different things!
The (3) changes were:
- I cut the DSP into (4) 1″ strips X 3″
- I added 1/4″ strips of blushing bride to the edges.
- I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to POP up the sentiment and the heart.
The other thing that I forgot to mention yesterday that I did on both cards was to use the White Fun Foam to back the layer up! Several weeks ago I blogged about doing this and I am really liking it. I purchased it from Amazon and you can click here to see what it is…I am amazed at how substantial the card feels in your hand as by having the solid piece – it makes a very solid card.
It is best to adhere this with a tape runner or I used fast fuse I (as I am not addicted to it) If you use the good old green glue, it soaks right in the foam…not a good choice! If you happen to have some craft foam, try it – you might like it! This is something that is could to try when you have a larger, solid piece like this one….also it works great on die cuts….this is what I used to POP up the numbers on the 50th birthday card I did last Thursday!
On today’s card, I did use stampin’ dimensionals to pop up both the heart and the sentiment…yesterday they were adhered flat! Either way works…just comes down to preference!
Let’s chat about the strips…yesterdays dimension for the DSP was 4 1/2″ X 3 1/2″ but today I just made the DSP into (4) X 3 1/2″ strips. You still cn do both the card and the lined envelope with just (1) sheet of DSP.
Because I did the card with the 1/4″ strip with the DSP I thought, WHY NOT??? Just continue to make this theme work on the card! I highly reccomend that you use the RIGHT hand side of your stampin’ trimmer to make small (thin) cuts…..it is much easier to see and do! There really is no science about how I added them.
This method is a fun one to do and also you can see that if you did not get it perfectly straight, no worries…the strips of paper are your friends and they will go over top of the DSP strips!
I do think that this is a super sweet and cute card! YEP, it can certainly be used for Valentines Day but it could also be sent as a thank you for a special friend. These prints on this stack “grows on you” after you look at them over and over. I can remember when I first saw this paper stack, I thought it was JUST VALENTINES….it certainly is not at all – it is a great collection of fun and rich papers!
Well – there you go….another 2 day post that will show you that there are 2 ways to make a simple card work! I hope that if you are affected by this unbelievable snow storm that you are safe and staying in and letting nature do its thing….and then letting the road crews that are working sooooo are do their thing.
The way I look at it is = IT ALLOWS UP TO DO OUR THING….MAKE CARDS!

Love the stepped up version of the card! Now the other pics… Love them! They are so adorable in their little coats! Just melts my heart (maybe it will help with the snow)! And Arnold and Ricardo are beautiful!
If I had to choose one card, it would be today’s stepped up version. Thanks for the tips about how to make it the easiest way. Love the pictures of your animals. This is a storm we’ll remember for quite a while. Stay safe…no mishaps with ankles, etc. Stay warm.
Hi Susan, Well . . . we hit 23 inches here on my part of Long Island. (Other areas had more; some less.) I like the extra blushing bride frame on the stepped-up version, but I don’t care for the strips.
I adore all the pictures of your fur-babies! Keep warm, cozy and yes, safe from ice!
🙂
Great tips about using 1 inch strips. The frame around them is a nice finish. Both cards are great, so I don’t have a favorite vote this time. Thanks too for sharing your pictures. So glad to see everyone managing in their snowy environment.
Love your stepped up version, Susan! And thank you so much for those Beautiful photos of your furry friends! I laughed so much…I know what you mean about the snow being a magnet to your dog’s legs, it happens to our poodles’ legs too! We have to shovel a spot for them to do their duty in, and they still don’t like being out there.
Love today’s stepped-up version of your card. The separate panels and pink frame are such simple ways to create interest. Will try this idea soon! Thanks for the idea.
Good to hear you are surviving all the snow. Even more good news that you haven’t lost power! Will keep you in my thoughts.
Hope you’re having a nice day with cards!
Love the pink frame! The heart stands out more. Precious fur babies! Charlie got a giggle fom me! All adorable! Hang in there! Our schnauzer is not happy with our snow at all
Well, I like the pink strips making it look like a mat but both are great. Having them popped up – I can go either way and the same for the panel cut into four panels.
I wish Ted didn’t like the colder weather and the snow. He thinks it is fun and tries to run and I am so worried I will fall and break something. He loves to eat the snow. But, his best trick is to stick his nose in it and then jump straight up like a fox does. It is so funny, you kinda got to see him do it. Boy, I grouch when we only get 7 or 8 inches, what would I do with all of yours? Love the photos!
WOW Susan, you guys sure got walloped! We had about a foot less than you. I really like the changes you made to this card. I like the DSP sliced, it really adds some more interest to the card. Thanks for the tip on the fun foam, too. It looks like getting all the dogs dressed for the snow is a bit time consuming…just like dressing the kids in snowsuit when they were young! My Tess is just like Milo and wants no parts of the snow…pooping and peeing are such an ordeal now!
I had trouble with my internet connecting yesterday b/c of our piddling 8″ of snow! I’d never have access if we had as much as you did! Love the pics of your fur babies. (And, too, I got involved watching football games! Go Panthers!)
I’ve always thought I was a clean and simple stylist but I’ve like the stepped up versions lately so I’m going to reclassify myself in my mind to stepped up CAS and give Sunday’s card a try. Thanks for sharing these little ways to add to the cards.
Seeing your animals always distract me from your cards. I’m a crafter and an animal lover but apparently show me some cute pets and I forget crafting exists. This time around I like the simplified version better. Usually the stepped up gets me but not this time. Stay warm, my friend!
