Good Morning! I am excited to share with you a tip that i think will make many of you excited and also I bet that many of you are going to find “Mr. Big Shot” and a die to see if it works!
Before we get to this tip and need to say who was the winner of the (6) Birthday Cards that I had on my post yesterday! I had a fabulous day and I sooooooo enjoyed reading your comments on how you like to spend your special day. Last night around 10 I was going to bed and I had a call from Hannah and she said…
“Have you seen your blog today? You have so many comments…and I think that it is so fun to read what everyone does. Mom, this was a fun idea to do and I think people liked it”
Well….I have 2 things to say about this little conversation with Hannah! 🙂
1 – It made me smile….what a great way to end a great day!
2 – She totally “GETS IT” – she understands what I do and why I do it. My family knows that I work so hard on my blog and so hard in trying to get people to understand that “they can do it” and to share and give simple kindness as it does matter.
Here you go…..GINGER is the winner and Chris R – you were ONE away but I know that you are going to be happy that Ginger won. “Chris R.” often emails Ginger and I FUN and KEEPER ideas so this is super fun that she one! Way to go Ginger….I have your address (unless it has changed) and I will send you the cards!
Now let’s get to today’s TIP! This one is right up my “TYPE A” alley.
I will say right out of the gate ~ the pictures are not the best but I know each and everyone of you know what I am talking about.
We all agree that the BIG SHOT is one amazing tool. Most of us use it for just paper but do you know that you can cut through other materials as well…like felt? Every Big Shot is calibrated a bit differently so your results and my results might be a bit different. I have (2) Big Shots and I can even tell a difference between the 2 but the end result is a smile as we love it that it cuts out things for us in a jif!
I know that many of you are going to try it and I hope that you do! Tomorrow I am going to do a post using a shape and also try this technique so please pop back and see if it worked!
I have blogged many time that I like to use fun foam under large sentiments on my cards. I do this because I like the sentiment part to be nice and solid as there are times if you do not use enough stampin’ dimensionals, it sags and we do not like sags!
Try this with a piece of fun foam….I think that it gives even a more even pressure to roll away your lines!
Do you remember last weeks Tuesday Tip…CLICK HERE to see that post. We had a bunch of great conversation going on with that Big Shot topic….let’s do the same this week – I truly believe that this is how we learn from one another. Please share your thoughts so we all can learn and chime in.
You might be thinking….WHAT IS THE SANDWICH THAT YOU USE TO DO THIS? Well….this is what I did – after I die cut the shape I then used the platform that we use for embossing and put the paper or fun foam on top and ran it through.
I can remember (I think it was Ramsey that asked this) – Why do you keep a clean set of cutting plates? – THIS is a great reason why…..if you have a clean plate….it is super even and flat all the way….so when you want to get the BUMPS out….it makes it easier!
There you go my friends…thoughts….comments – we would all love to hear! See you tomorrow…..go have a GREAT DAY!
These lines bug me too! I try to smooth them out with a bone folder. Great tip…can’t wait to try it. We are leaving for vacay right now (Canada and Maine) so i will have to wait a little bit. Enjoy the day!
Mary Ann . . . have a wonderful time. I love Maine and the NE in the Fall. Where are you traveling from? (I live in Long Island, NY.)
Good Morning . . . I can’t say these lines bother me that much. Maybe I need new glasses. Maybe my Cuttlebug does’t make these line. I’ll have to pay more attention to my die cuts. I have seen this topic pop up before, so Susan you are not on that island alone!!!
Congrats to Ginger for winning your cards!
🙂
This topic is so interesting because I think every BS is different and since we have new plates on board (or sorta new) I get confused as to which I like the best for certain projects. I am going back and forth between using the Precision Plate or using the new plates (the one that has the Die Cut Plate separate ) or just going back to wax paper and fabric softener sheets . Then someone said you aren`t supposed to use the Precision Plate with the Magnetic Plate … I have noticed lines or ghost lines around images before and on some I kinda like it . So now I will try the Fun Foam and see how that works for me .To be honest I have not had that problem that much . OR….like Nancy I just don`t see them !!!
Yay for you Ginger ! Glad you won !!
I am new to your web site and I really like it!! You have some very good tips and card ideas and you present them in a fun way. Thank you for your time and making stamping more fun for us.
I thought I am the only person who is bugged by this most of the time. The lines aren’t quite deep enough to look like they are intended. The dots on thinlits bother me even more!! Especially when I use the foil paper. I will be trying this on that problem too and sure hope it works. Love your Tuesday Tips.
Great tip. I had noticed them and wondered what I could do. Sometimes I like the edge effect they give, but especially with soft foil types of paper I really want a clean look. Thanks for the tip. Congratulations Ginger on winning 6 of Susan’s cards. I am sure you will love all of them.
Yes! I did ask why we needed the clean plates. Now I get it! I ordered a new set yesterday, the old sets of plates look just like my door were my angel doggie has asked to go outside. Many, many scratches! Can’t wait to try this especially on those silly little bumps on the foil that Phyllis was talking about! Congrats to Ginger!!!
I, too, have noticed these lines but they never bothered me. Now that I know a remedy, They’ll probably bother me more but I’ll be able to fix them. Thanks, Susan, for another great tip. Congrats to Ginger!
This is something I have been wondering about!!! Thanks for this great tip, you can bet I will be trying it right away. Glad you had a great birthday, Susan. Congrats to Ginger ?
Oh my gosh Susan! I am over the moon excited as I love your cards! The cool thing is that your birthday is right in between my son & daughter so it is kind of a present for me too! Thank you so much.
This summer I was making a birthday card for my sister-in-law’s mother. She turned 95!! and I used the Number of Years set. I cut the numbers out of gold foil cardstock and was so disappointed because of these die lines. I wasted so much of this specialty paper trying different sandwiches, etc. I eventually got something that was “acceptable” in my eyes, but I wasn’t totally happy with it… So glad to know this tip!
I need a little “help” about your remedy!! You rolled it thru the BS with a piece of paper AFTER you cut it out with the die?? I like many commented……sometimes I like the outline & other times I don’t want it. Thanks for clarifying the remedy.
Same here Karen, I’m a “visual” person. Susan, could you show us a picture of what you sandwich is please? 🙂
Way to go Ginger – I was thinking that was a little present for you in between the kid’s birthdays! You have been working so hard lately and this is fun. You will have to tell me which cards she sent since Susan didn’t tell us! Just kidding, well, no one post of Mary Fish’s is her Sunday sharing of the cards.
Anyway, that line on the die cuts has bothered me before but I never thought to run it through again to try and “erase” them. Usually they are on other people’s cards anyway. I have not tried the foil in the BS as I like to hoard these! I don’t use my BS as much as you all do though. But, I take spurts and I will have to play around with stuff and try some felt etc. So, what else has everyone tried in it?
I don’t think I understand your fix for the lines, but that’s okay because they don’t really bother me much.
Am certainly going to try this! The lines annoy me. Maybe I should talk to my doctor about it?
