Happy Hump Day! Now this is what I am talkin’ about…a card that is as easy as 1,2,3 but carries a PUNCH! I have a question for you and one that I think we can all relate to…
Why is it that we feel the need to complicate things?
I ask this because as I was making this card I admit, I felt a bit guilty. I was thinking …“this is too easy”…”I need to jazz it up with something”….then I thought...”wow – I like this”…”this was a no-brainer, it’s done”…
There is nothing wrong what so ever having a card that uses minimal products and one that can be pulled together and completed in a matter of minutes.
The star of the show is the Winter Wonder Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (now say that 3 times). Just look – it is…one BIG…one SIMPLE SNOWFLAKE…that makes a STATEMENT!
I am using Very Vanilla today as I have been “neglecting it lately” and I am just still kickin’ my heels that is it available now in the Thick – Heavy weight. I love the softness that it gives and for me, it is still my “white” as there is nothing like having the “white space” on a card and today….that is one of the elements that makes this card.
You really do not need me today but while I am here….let me keep yackin’ away!
- The base is a vertical A-2 – 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″
- The Very Vanilla piece that I embossed is 4″ X 5 1/4″ and I ran it through Mr Big with the Winter Wonder Folder
- The Mat of Real Red is just a smidge larger, 4 1/8″ X 5 3/8″ and YES – I did cut some shapes out of the center of the red not to waste it!
- The sentiment for both the outside and the inside is from the Flurry Of Wishes, a Photopolymer one carried over from last year.
- The envelope love is from the Quilted Christmas 6″ X 6″ DSP….(one of my favorites in the new catalog).
Look at that nice and deep impression that you get…with just a little crank from Mr. Big! (he does such a great job) I am trying to be better about using Embossing Folders…
I know that I rarely show you all the inside of a card but I just had to snap a picture for the other simplicity of this showing you that 1,2,3 – DONE this whole project would be! Can you image how many cards you could crank out in a “me time block” and the other great factor…this is a very inexpensive card to make.
I am guilty of making several different cards…I usually go off of 3 or 4 designs that I come up with and I know that we are really early in the Christmas Card game…but this might be in the running for the need of the “quick and easy category”
We need to STOP and CHAT about this new DSP Stack. It is wonderful – it is as simple as that! I think when you hear the word “quilt” you think is something old fashion and perhaps dated….well look below and smile!
This picture does a great job but to me there is something even more BOLD and CRISP about these colors together. It is just one great stack and remember, with my Product Share…you will get (1) full sheet of each of them.
If you were to make this card “in the masses” you would have plenty of the “red options” for your liners….heck – if you were to use the one that I am using today you would be able to make (12) envelopes alone from this one design.
WHAT…HOW??? Easy – I cut the DSP into a 2″ X 6″ strip and you get (4) sheets of this paper = 12 cuts!
Here is your picture to pin! Clean and Simple is the name of this Hump Day Card! For those of you that have small children or grandchildren, this would be a great card for you to make with them.
They would LOVE to crank Mr. Big and then you could do the stampin’….and a win-win….you will not only have fun doing a project together, but you will love the end result…a great card!
You know what tomorrow is….the weekly game day….let’s play Tic-Tac-Toe! Games are so much fun…even as an adult! I am hoping to have a productive day…I am getting 200 ears of corn to put up! To me there is nothing like having the freshness of the summer all winter long and I always try to take advantage of produce when it is super yummy!
I will try to snap a picture of my helpers! I put a plastic sheet down in our family room…watch You Tube Videos on our TV and shuck away with my furry friends before the blanching of the corn. At first they think something fun is going to happen because of the table and change of the family room but once they see that it is rather boring they do what they do best….SLEEP!
Remember, if you want in the 1st wave of my Product Share you need to email me by this Sunday, September 3rd so I can save a spot for you. I will do another share but that will not be until the 3rd week of September.
I will be up with the chickens (heck – they will probably be asleep still) to order the products for the share. I do expedite the shipping so I can turn them around to you in a jif! IT’s kind of a bummer that Monday is a Holiday so no USP…..but I know you will be smiling BIG TIME when you see how fast I will turn your shares around!
I Love your Christmas card, Susan! I honestly thought you die-cut the snowflake before reading what you actually did. What a Beautifully embossed snowflake! I can see this done using different colors for the matting, like green or blue or even silver or gold. Thank you for inspiring us all the time~
Hello my Virginia friend…and you are soooo right! Change the color up…change the whole feel of the card!
These embossing folder have come such a LONG way – the details are amazing….
A Simple but stunning card. Its a quick make. Clean ans simple lines. I like it.
What a card and post! I adore the simplicity and your love for Mr. Big!
It’s all about that great folder…a true blue keeper and for Mr Big – what would we do without him!
What a card and post! I adore the simplicity and your love for Mr. Big!
I love the simplicity and elegance of this card, Susan. Yes, even I, who shies away from making more than 6 of any design, could mass produce this one. Thanks for your idea. Enjoy your day!
YEAH – I am glad that you can see the vision with the mass production! I can say…I have no guilts of mass producing a card – think if it this was…if it is a “keeper” than why not.
I do like that this would be fun to make with kids…
Wow! That’s an embossing folder? I thought it was a die cut! Gorgeous! Simple. Gotta have it!
YEP…that’s an embossing folder…..amazing…right! I do forget about them and then when I use them I say to myself…..SILLY SUSAN….use them more!
Very crisp and clean! Love it and I agree with Roberta…many color choices that will look equally beautiful. Definitely casing. Have a fun day!
Thanks Mary Ann…I agree and I did do it with gold and it was beautiful….the sky is the limit and it is a great way to color coordinate with odds and ends of DSP to pull it together with the flap!
Susan, this is simply stunning and now say THAT three times rapidly! I think this is the most amazing card. It is totally something I would make and I AM GOING TO MAKE THIS! Of course I need to get the EF and the inside is perfect as well. I, agree with HJ, I rarely make more than 6 of one kind but this will be my go to holiday card to give as presents in a holder of some kind. Maybe the little purse type ones Jeanie made. I think this would be a great card to make for senior citizens in nursing homes. This should be the shining star on the cover of a SU catalog if you ask me! Simply stunning and the envelope is just plain ol’ fun and can be whatever makes you happy! You are starting my day off right. Thank goodness you are dealing with all that corn – I had enough trying to deal with 30 tomatoes! Ted and I are off on a walk to enjoy this gorgeous day before the roofers are back for hopefully the last day.
Still saying my prayers and sending warm thoughts to Houston and all the areas involved. My heart goes out to my old friends and neighbors.
Now Chris….YOU CAN MAKE ANY CARD – I still smile when I think of your eskimo card as it was just the cutest.
Why is it that you all are reluctant to make more than 6? If I like the card I do not mind at all ….heck – I make 50, well 51 of the same card each month for my kits…I guess I get on a roll and I am use to it!
I am sooooooo happy that the corn is behind me – my kitchen was a MESS!!!!
Now that is a perfect no fail card. Thank you for posting it. I said yesterday “Why do I always have to complicate things?” You know what has just been added to my next order. Susan-you are wonderful.
Oh Peggy, we all seem to do that – complicate things….its just a good reminder for us all to ask ourselves….I know that this is soooo darn tootin simple and I actually was considering not to post it….but then I said – WHY??? This is what you do best….SIMPLE!
I just received this snowflake EF . I have big plans for it ! I have another order list that is growing . I haven`t gotten the Quilt 6×6 stack yet (I love 6×6 dsp stacks)and after your One Sheet Wonder tip for the envelope flaps guess I gotta get that !
Your card is simple BUT elegant . The mat color choices are limitless !!!!! Thank you ! This would be a fun stamp group project !
Your corn adventure sounds fun and yummers !!
Well I am glad that you were a smart stamper and already have the embossing folder….BUT – Sonny…you do not have this paper…I say/…WHY???? Go do some retail therapy TODAY….this paper just makes me smile….love the boldness….love the patterns!
Absolutely stunning! I love your choice of Very Vanilla as well. A quick question – I am getting tiny creases in my cardstock when I use this folder – did you use the thick CS to emboss?
Susan, I forgot to ask if there was anything special to do with this EF like spritzing water on it or anything else. Will the thick cardstock be the best choice? I don’t have the new platform so I am using the old one – well I will when I get this folder. I now have justification for the stamp set you used for the inside too. Thanks in advance.
Chris….you should be good to go – I really do not think it matters to have to have the new platform (save your $$$) and use a paper shim if needed but yes, I would mist it!
Hi Arlene…I had to check and I did use the thick one probably because I was lazy after cutting the base – I used the left over for the embossed piece.
I did not have any cracking but remember, all Mr. Bigs act differently with products….maybe it is because I did mist it with water first – this is a habit that I have gotten into as that works the best with the dynamic folders…..
I keep a Tim Holtz spray mister by my Mr. Big !!! Try misting….
YES!! YEA!! HIP HIP HORAY!! I LOVE this clean and simple card! You nailed it Susan!!! As for the corn, my mother uses to freeze corn and it was so yummy in the winter! I try but it just does not taste the same as my Mom’s. If you have secrets to share…….
Inspiring Ramsey brightens my day! Thanks….its a keeper – and you just have to love when Mr. Simple is present!
AS for the corn….I am sure it is because every thing a Mom would make is always better than what you can make!
I do it the day the corn is picked…..4 mins in boiling water, shock it with a quick dunk in an ice bath…..dry it good and CUT IT OFF!
Hi here! What a great card, and my guess is the snowflake embossing folder is going to be as hot as the daisy punch. I know I can’t wait to get my hands on one!
I think that you are right…I think that it is going to be a hotty!!!! (also the cat punch, the leaf punch)….it is funny – it seems to be with “SIMPLE” products…..simple rocks!
I love this folder! I saw that someone used it on an acrylic box too. Beautiful! I can’t wait to play with mine! Your card is stunning!
Thanks Karen…I saw that too and I am itchin’ to try it…..it is a keeper of a product…
A simple, stunning and classic card! It doesn’t have to be complicated to be a WOW card. Thanks for sharing. Now that folder is on my wish list.
I just thought of it on this way and I like the sound of it….(might need to me a new motto for me)
Complicated stresses…Simple brings SMILES!
I noticed this folder and debated on getting. Your card is simple but still elegant. Of course
I sit here, thinking hmmm maybe add a few clear gems?? But I somehow think it’d not work and it would be wonderful left the way it is. The beauty of this is being able to switch the matting colors.
Now Pam….this just HAS TO BE on an order or…how about if you let me give it to you free….along with this card – (that is my September give away!!!)
Well let me help…Wink of Stella works great (tried it) and also some gems (tried that too) brings it up a notch…
I know you will “make it proud”
Beautiful card Susan, but I like a touch of the religious aspect. I think I might be able to take the basic and maybe just one simple stamp with the same layering.
Ramsay . . . nothing ever tastes like my Mom’s.
Happy Hump Day!!
🙂
So true…. it is a sweet card…I had just left the response to Ramsey and you NAILED IT….there is nothing like what MOM made!
It is funny…now that the peeps have flown away…I get calls saying…I made the ______ that you make and it just doesn’t taste the same – what did I do wrong?
My answer….try this – COME HOME and well make it together…..I miss them!
Susan.. love the simple elegance of this card.. Thank you for sharing…
That is alot of corn.. good luck with it..
Thanks….you make me feel special when I see those 2 words together – “simple elegance”…..and for the corn….
YEP – it was a lot BUT…..it will warm me up with soups and such in the winter!
