A very special day…

Today is a very special as well as a HUGE heartfelt day to honor an amazing young women that was taken way to early in life. If you follow my blog (and I sure hope you do) you already know that I like to intertwine my life and my personality thru my blog.

I have blogged many times about Hannah's amazing trainer Tom (remember, he is the guy that eats Peanut M&M's only on Sundays – only a man could have that will power)...well he is one special person to so many and today is a day that I know is going to be emotional but at the same time a feel good for him.

Three years ago, Claire Mawdsley was killed in an automobile accident at young age of 21. Claire was a role model to many of the Junior Riders at the barn as well as a young women that had an amazing work ethic and passion for life. If you wish to read about this talented young lady, please click here.

Tom has been working so hard in getting a Scholorship started in memory and in honor of Claire and today his dream is coming to life. If you click on the below picture, you can read more about it.

Tom has asked me to make up (4) cards for the winners (there are (4) sections of Junior Riders) and the money that they will be receiving will go towards their college education. Here is the card that I made.

IMG_3579

I think that it is very appropriate for the occasion and it was an honor and a joy to make! I had a call from Hannah (she is in Africa now) and she wanted to let me know that she is thinking about all of us and how wonderful it is that this scholorship is coming to life to honor such a beautiful person!

IMG_3581

Needless to say I am here at the horse show, surrounded by my "Barn friends" and Claires Mom is here as well! Last night some of the girls from the Barn made thank-you cards for the riders that were entered in the scholorship to write a note of thanks to all of the sponors…(another thing I adore about Tom…he said "Can you also make me up some thank-you's as I want the kids to sit down and properly thank all of the sponsors")

IMG_3570

I know that it is hard to see the blue…it is Night of Navy and I just love this simple stamp…one stamp says it all! The girls do not stamp (I need to work on that!!!!!) so I made it super easy for them to use the aqua painter and the stamp to do the trick!

IMG_3573

I know that this is not a "teach you" post but in other ways it really is a "teach you" post as please do not under estimate what we do. This simple gesture of making these for Tom not only warms my heart but I know that Claire would be touched as well.

IMG_3575

I can remember the last time I saw Claire…I made this Apple Cake and she really, really loved it. Some of the other grooms from the barn had left and she aked me…."Where is that cake – it is really good" – when I told her that the guys took it…her face was adorable and pricless! Great memories of a special person!

Please keep Claire and her family and friends in your thoughts! I think you all will agree with me, Tom IS a special person…it is wonderful to see his dream come to life and there is no doubt that Claire is right here with us for this special day!

Thanks for allowing me to let you "into" my life today….tomorrow is Simple Saturday and Oh, Henry!!! Pop back and see what's up my sleeve!

Enjoy the day and remember all of the thanksgiving that we all have! Until tomorrow!

IMG_2872

I am trying to pull out stamps that have been neglected a bit with the new catalog etc…and this stamp set, Starburst Sayings is a great stamp set especially since it comes in a bundle! Running those framelits through "Mr. Big Shot" makes life great getting a perfect cut!

Today I am also playing with The Paper Players this week and here is the palette of colors for the challenge! I love these colors as it reminds me of Fall!

Screen shot 2014-09-15 at 8.26.25 PM

I love the color of Baked Brown Sugar and I chose this to be my focal color! Here is a tip for large stamps like this…it has been a while since I have used this stamp and at 1st it was not stamping clean.

Naturally I was a bit frustrated but then I remember that sometimes you need to stamp….clean…stamp …clean and that will help…and it did….perfect coverage! (Try this with the photopolymer as well)

IMG_2870

When you see the images below of the stamp set…you can see that there are several that are large! Isn't this a fun and fresh set!

133185G

This is one of those layouts that can be used for sooo many different stamps and themes…keep it in your memory bank for the future!

IMG_2879

You know I love layers and you can see that there are many layers (remember to cut the "insides" out to save your paper) The Large Polka Dot Folder was the "fun factor" for the backdrop to the focal point!

IMG_2875

Pulling the colors from the challenge, I popped them out with the Banner Punch…love using scraps up! Placing adhesive on the back of the stamped image I placed the Blackberry Bliss around and then filled in…easy-peasy!

IMG_2872

Envelope time…with the help of the Envelope Punch Board and the Lullaby Designer Series Paper…DONE! You know that I love square cards and it is so easy with this tool!

I hope that this card put a smile on your face and I hope that YOU have a Happy Day! I sure plan to as we are having some fabulous Fall weather and John and I are enjoying taking walks on the C & O Canal…..such a pretty time of the year!

Please feel free to email me and tomorrow you will be getting in the festive mood….please pop back and see what I have up my sleeve!

Until tomorrow!

“Blending” with Blended Bloom!

IMG_2839

Happy Sunday! Now this is a totally different card for me but I will say that it was oober easy and it was a ton of fun! I actually colored it while I was listening to a Webinar and it was like being a kid with a fresh coloring book!

I am the very first to admit that I am not an expert by any means with the Blendabilites but I will say that when I take the time to "play" I love them! I do not know why the crumb cake did not pop up in the below supplies for this card but you can click here to order it! The other color families I used were Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delightand the Crumb Cake!

This is the very first time I have used this stamp. It is sold as a single stamp and it needs to find a way to your home! It is the BEST to learn to use the blendabilties as there is so much space so you can really get a great idea of how to do it! Remember – NO RULES other than to have fun!!!

135906G

Below you will see the work in progress…remember that these markers DO bleed through your paper (and that's ok) so make sure you put some scraps underneath so you do not ruin your work surface.

IMG_2830

I think that we all agree that Mary Fish is one special and talented lady. I am blessed to have her not only as my upline but as a friend! I took her advice on using these pens and if you have not seen this quick video…please watch it and it will make total sense.

IMG_2825

After I did my magic on coloring…I flipped the 3 1/2" square piece over and using a pencil I drew the lines to fine the center. I just think a ruler is the best thing since sliced bread! To the paper trimmer to cut to make equal squares!

Now to the fun part…again…NO STRESSING….I fussy cut the flower….please make sure you do not try to fussy cut before cutting in into squares, – I know that it is tempting to do so…but this is so much easier as it would be next to impossible to cut the flowers out in equal parts!

IMG_2827

Let me give you a couple of measurements as I do hope that you try this….go wild with different colors!

  • The base size of the card is a 4 1/2" square card in Sahara Sand and then the pice of Sahara Sand that I put the cut flower on is 3 1/4"
  • The next 2 colors are Soft Suede and Calypso Coral…just a smidge larger!

IMG_2832

You can see that I used another tool that I use often…the white gel pen! I adore this pen as it is my "dash and dot friend" in so many cards that I do but on this card I used the white gel pen to go over the black lines from the Momento Ink….at first I did not like it at all but once it dried and all put together…it worked!

IMG_2831

From the above angle you can see where I used Stampin Dimensions to lift up. TIP: Make sure that you do not place the dimensions too close to the edge so they are more concealed….just gives it a more polished look!

IMG_2835

Sentiments time…this is from the A Dozen Thoughts Stamp Set and this set is fabulous! The sentiments are always"spot on" for that special message that you need!

Now to the funny part about this card….I saw a version of it on Pinterest and when I went to go to the demonstrators blog I was soooo happy as she had a video….but guess what – it is in french….so I had no clue as I have never taken french so I hope that I inspired you as best I can!

Please feel free to email me if you have any further questions about this card and I will do my best to help you. Enjoy the day….make some memories and until tomorrow!

“Tweet-Tweet”…it’s Tuesday!

IMG_2519

Tweet…it is Tuesday! Today’s card will surely put a smile on your face! I have wanted to use this stamp set and I knew that this would be a great card to send to my friends that offered their home to use this week while at Cape Cod.

We all get ideas from a variety of different place but does this card look familiar to you? Well…in my opinion, Stampin’ Up! does an amazing job with the ideas that they photograph in the catalog!

This stamp set is a hostess stamp set called, Hello Love and on page 239 of the catalog, I have always been “smittened” by the card that is on this page…so this is where the inspiration came from!

I would love to help you earn this stamp set with some hostess dollars…please email me and we can come up with a cyber gathering and I will provide you a hostess code, some inspiration and you will be smiling!

133928G

This is a great example of how you can see a card…then look at what you have to work with and then make some changes “here and there” and PRESTO – you did it! I wanted to work with the DSP from the Flashback Collection so I knew that I needed to use Very Vanilla as my neutral!

IMG_2522

Let’s get going…I hope that you can see that just about every project I make uses the Big Shot and with that said, remember that the opportunity to take advantage of the Big Shot deal is coming to an end! It is the keeper of all keepers when it comes to card making

  • The base is a regular A-2 card size; 4 ½” X 5 ½”. I did cut another piece of very vanilla to this same size and ran it through the Big Shot with the Wood Grain Embossing Folder and then mounted it to the front of the card. (I felt that this made it studier as this embossing folder really gives you a super deep impression!)
  • Going into the scrap pile…(I love using up scraps) the front piece is 3 ½” X 4” and then the DSP Strip is 1” X 3 ½”…you can see it coming together!

IMG_2514

  • The sun was stamped with crushed curry, I love the tone on tone effect it gives and then the adorable sentiment is stamped in soft suede…same with the bird on real red card stock.
  • The sentiment was a cinch to cut out as it coordinates with the Word Bubble Framelits and then I did “fussy cut” the sun and the bird!

TIP ALERT: One thing I have learned about fussy cutting…JUST GO FOR IT and don’t get stressed! The sun was a piece of cake and I thought about “double stamping it” like they did in the catalog and then I knew that that would take too much time…I think my little red bird looks “just fine”

IMG_2515

  • Putting it all together the “green glue” is the key adhesive to use. WHY? Having that “wiggle time” to get the sun and the little bird just where you want it makes life easy! Stampin Dimensionals behind both the base card and the sentiment made the card pop!
  • The neutral button with the linen thread was the perfect touch for extra dimension! To make the loops behind the button I simply took a couple of mini glue dots and used them as my anchor and then pressed the button on…again – easy!
  • Envelope time…again easy – just ran my snail around the edge of the envelope…place a piece of the DSP and cut the excess off – DONE!

IMG_2516

Wouldn’t this card make you happy to receive it? I smiled so much after I made it and I can see that I will be using this layout over and over again! Look at the layout of this card…this is what I refer to as a “keeper”! Just change up the stamps and colors and presto – a totally different card!

I know that there is so much going on with Stampin’ Up! right now with the Big Shot deal and then the

Short and Sweet opportunity…wow – so much to take in but I will say – we all know that our products are the best on the market so why not take advantage and have fun! You truly have nothing to lose.

Please feel free to email me, I have limited access this week but I will be trying to check emails daily! Being that it is Tuesday…remember – weekly deals!!! – Click here to see the offerings this week!

Have a great day and please know that YOU make me happy! Until tomorrow!
