Good Tuesday to you! I have a tip for you and one that I hope that you will take to heart and give it a try! If I were to guess…I would say that you were like me at some point that the Stamp-a-ma-jig was a dust collector rather than a help to you in your craft area! At the end of the post you will see who the winner was for the cards over the weekend! WOOT-WOOT!
Here is a funny for you – when I was a “customer” I bought a Stamp-a-ma-jig….it came and it stayed in the box that it came in…. I thought – hmmmm…I bought it – but I have no clue how or why I bought it? Time went on and I attempted to try it….NO LUCK…..back in the box it goes.
Fast forward probably a year and I was more adventurous….back out of the box it came….and I was serious….really serious this time….still same results and back in the box it goes!
Last chance…I was seeing and hearing that people actually liked this piece of plastic and then it was like learning to ride a bicycle…..IT WORKED and I never looked back! This really is a good analogy as once you’ve got it……you’ve got it!
I hope that you will watch this video and I hope that you will walk away with a nugget of an idea that might work for you. I do have a MISTI and I adore the MISTI but I find that I use the “jig” for “red rubber” stamps! I find the “jig” to be super fast and useful for those “you just want it right spots” and when you learn to use the tool to its potential – it is the best “plastic friend” you could have.
Please pop back tomorrow and you will see how I took this “base of this video” and turn it into a sweet card that you will find to be both practical and do-able. I think that it might be a game changer to you with many stamps that you have collecting dust….because now they have a SPECIAL PURPOSE IN LIFE…they have a friend, the stamp-a-ma-jig!
Now we need to announce the winner of the cards over the weekend….I loved reading your comments and I am thrilled that there are many of you that already love this piece of plastic. I would not have been able to get the “dots” and the “sentiment” in line without the help of the stamp-a-ma-jig!
Ready….ready….come on Robyn – get up from your chair and do the dance….shake it – shake it!!! Woot-woot to you! I know that these 2 cards are going to have fun going across the country to Nebraska…many thanks for popping in and leaving a comment!
I do agree with her spot on – I do like to use my MISTI with my photopolymer stamps but I do need the “jig” to me is needed for the clear mount and the wood mount. For the little cost of the tool and the small and “packable” size…the Stamp-a-ma-jig is a must have when you are a stamper!
As I shared above and in the video…please pop back tomorrow and see how I took this simple sentiment of “Happy Birthday” and turned it into a fun card that could be made as a good old Birthday Card Staple for you to make in many color combinations!
You know how I feel…
less is best…simple is super…and work with the basics –
you will never go wrong.
Here is a question for you to think about…If you had just 1 hour to pack up your “stuff” to go on a Stampin’ Retreat for a weekend – what would be in your bag – hmmmmm….this is a good one – but I will say for sure – the “jig” would be in there as there is nothing easier to use to get it “just right”!
Please remember, the retired list and the shelves at Stampin’ Up! are getting smaller…..don’t be disappointed if there is something that you “just have to have” because when the date comes that they are gone…they are gone! Also, with any order of $75+ or more this month – I will send you a pack of Foam Adhesive Strips…another basic that needs to go into your Retreat Bag!
p.s. – yesterday afternoon I sent an email confirmation out to those of you that have sent me a product share order…if you did not get one and you have emailed me with a share request, please email me. The Product Shares can be found here (and also in the drop down box for you to view at anytime!) – please email me your “wishes” and I will get you in the 1st wave of the shares!
Congrats Robyn! Susan, love your video and your tips on the “jig.” Can’t wait to see tomorrow’s card. I have a small to-go bag to take with me when I go to classes. It includes scissors, snail, glue dots and tweezers but for a weekend retreat my bag would definitely be bigger with more essentials (including chocolate)!
YOU of all people would have a bag to go! When I typed that I was thinking…I bet our “sheep herder” would be ready in a “Jif” and I bet her “Jig” would be in there….and I love the chocolate…I hope that it is DARK to share with me!
Great video Susan! Congrats to Robyn! I agree that the jig and the Misti are both tools that we need in our stash! They each have their own special talents!
I like the way you think…..and I hope that BERGER COOKIES are in your stash!
Excellent video – now I want to play with my “jig”. Think the combo of birthdays on the demo card was a neat look. Thanks again and really enjoy your blog.
Susan from FL
YIPPEE…..I am thrilled that you enjoyed the video…..the “JIG” is really not a mean thing…it is truly our stampin’ friend and I am glad that you are going to give it some play time! You will be smiling when that green light goes on!
I was slow to use my “jig” too! Once I remembered the value of it (the reason I bought it) I keep it handy now.
I enjoy these Tuesday tips!!!!!
Congratulations to Robyn!!!
Hi Ann and I just love the way that you said…..(the reason I bought it) as that is soooooo true – I think you all know that I adore what I do but I also want to make sure that you understand and enjoy what you own. I think that we are all guilty of that “I just have to have it purchase” as trust me, I have been there – done that….
You and I would get along JUST GREAT……if you are slow to use what you have… than I am the horse to your right – me too! Thanks for leaving a comment…..
Great video Susan. Always looking forward to your cards. Tell us more about the shammy you showed and mentioned in the video..
Oh Paula – pull up a chair as I just love….really LOVE the absorber cloth to clean my stamps……you can buy them at an auto store….Walmart….Amazon – https://www.amazon.com/Absorber-Synthetic-Drying-Chamois-Natural/dp/B0000AY69V/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1495592158&sr=8-3&keywords=absorber+chamois
You can cut this up to small sizes….they will last forever……and you can throw them in the wash machine!
Doesn’t get better that this and the BEST thing is….your stamps are squeaky clean!
Congrats Robyn, winner winner chicken dinner! I can smell the chicken frying now!
Get ready for some…..GOOD EATIN’ – because your FRIEND WON!
I adore fried chicken, especially the thighs…..I can smell it cookin’….shall I hop in the car?????
Susan, What a GREAT VIDEO. Congratulations Robyn. I really enjoyed seeing how you do the happy birthday three times. Great job. Have a great day, I can not wait to see your fun card tomorrow. Have a great day, Ellen Hinds
Hi Ellen and I hope that you have a “jig” …..I think we all need a “jig” in our lives! I will say – I truly was sooooooo frustrated with this piece of plastic….but once we saw eye-to-eye, we are friends! See you in the morning!
Way to go Robyn! You are one lucky stamper!!
The “trio” will have to have a dinner together….CHICKEN DINNER !!!!
Congrats to Robyn! It is always fun to get some happy mail! Now, that was a great video and you actually made me want to get one of those new fangled contraptions! Not that they are new but new for me. Except I put in an order to SU yesterday so it will just go on my wish/want/need list. I can see putting it in the lower corner might be handier for me with my short arms to get good pressure. I think it would be great for wood mount and the red rubber ones especially. But will people really think I made the cards if everything is straight and not a little wonky?
As far as the bag for a retreat – do you honestly think I would get anything done? Why pack a bag with lots of stuff in it when some DIet Coke, a little chocolate (oh Mary Ann I like how you think!), and my little Mion lunch box with snail, dimensionals, scissors, silicon mat, aqua painter etc. are in there. Oh, maybe the water color pencils too if they didn’t fit in there need to be added. Of course the designated project to work on with it’s inks and stuff. I would make sure I had good walking shoes on so I could hop from table to table checking everyone’s projects and their progress.
By the way, I really liked when you stamped the Happy Birthday in the corner and then did it up the side – now that was a fun idea to work on.
Oh Chris…..if we all could be at a retreat together I think that honestly that we would get nothing done but yack the time away…..have more wrinkles from laughing….but coming home feeling blessed….!!!!!
I bet you would roll in and have us all covered and you know what???? I bet we could all show up and not have name tags….and with one clue – WE WOULD ALL KNOW EACH OTHER !
Wow. Was I surprised to see my name this morning. Was planning on trying a window “shaker” card sometime soon. Seems like I haven’t had a lot of paper playtime. But now I have my inspiration handy. One thing I use all the time is the stampin’ up stamp cleaner. It was a great investment. Thanks again for the blog candy. It really made my day.
WOOT-WOOT to YOU!!!! I was thrilled that one the the 3 AMIGA’S WON ….yippeeeeee….now get that chicken dinner ready – we need pictures!
Congrats, Robyn! Id grab my carry tote as it has many tools in it, incl the stamp a ma jig. My trimmer, my case of clear blocks. That would be a good start…
Hi Pam…and the clear blocks – YES…YES….mine are soooooo dirty – YIKES – I need to give them some love in the kitchen! The other thing that we all have a bunch of……TOTES to carry out STUFF in….John always teases me with the amount of TOTES we own!
I have another stamp positioner that I just LOVE to pieces. If something untoward were to happen to it I would get a thingy-ma-jig. I like the one I have because it is smallish and easy to use. I had a much bigger one when stamp positioners became a thing. Like anyone has that kind of room on their desk! Ha!
My friend lived with her mother and one day when she was out but mom home, the roof caught fire. Mom leashed up the dog, called 911 and left the house. She tied the dog to a fence down the street and came back and the firemen gave her permission to go into the house and get stuff. So…. what would you grab? My friends and I talk this all the time so how fun…. what craft stuff would you grab?
I would take my to-go tote as it has all the basic tools in it (but not a stamp positioner). I would have to quickly add in some other ink pads in both colors and black, more adhesives, my favorite scissors and my address book. I would grab a fat handful of white CS, my tote of Copic markers, my tray of embellishments (that beading tray you talked us into), paper flowers, SU cling stamp sets (bye bye wood ones) and my drawers of SU DSP. Oh and my guillotine paper cutter. The tote has the current SU one but I like the guillotine one. If I had more time then colored CS, envelopes, boxes of dies, the Big Shot, embossing folders, a nice handful of washi tape, and…… hmm… good thing I own a pickup truck huh?
As for my friend’s mom–what she grabbed besides the dog and her purse is the box of important papers, the dirty laundry hamper (that’s the clothes you wear), my friend’s brand new TV, the contents of the medicine cabinet, and she ripped the bedding off and tossed in clothes from the closet, shoes and linen closet items and carried it out of the house like a big hobo roll. She was heading back in with a sheet to toss pots and pans into when the firemen said no more.
Ultimately they had to move but most of their belongings were salvaged. My friend Kay said she learned from that because a bunch of the stuff her mom grabbed were clothes and shoes she never wore. Kay said, “Why did I even have those things there? If we had lost everything I’d have been so mad to be left with the rejects.” Some of the other things her mom did was dump the contents of her night stand into that big hobo roll she carried out. Her mom’s thinking was those must be important things but the reality is that’s where Kay put things she didn’t care about. Now Kay doesn’t keep things she doesn’t want and her nightstand has her favorite books and trinkets. She says she often walks through the house and thinks if there were a fire, what would she grab first? It’s fun to talk about but scars you if it really happens. Although, my other friend, Ed lost everything he owned in a fire and said that was much nicer and cleaner than the time he lost everything he owned in a divorce. So there is that.
Oh Judy I just don’t need another thing to think about or worry about! In junior high we had an electrical fire in our house. A squirrel tripped the transformer during one of those heavy wet snows. The fire followed the wires into the house and was dancing in the walls. I got my parents up and we called the fire department. I took the dog out with us but I really don’t think any of us grabbed much more than a coat and shoes to put on. It wasn’t bitterly cold thank goodness. This is a good lesson learned and something to think about too in the near future. Maybe I should start wearing my wedding ring to bed. Maybe the insulin should be in a to go bag by my bed just in case. Good thing I slept a lot this weekend when I didn’t feel good because something tells me I will be up worrying about this now!
WEAR THE RING….and YES – always have your meds….ALWAYS!
THIS IS FABULOUS! I can see the whole thing unfolding…..I am in your camp….I do have a guillotine trimmer that I GO FOR…just about daily but the BIG GUT….MR STACK -the BIG ca-hona (sp???) trimmer that I bought to do my shares….I would love to take that with me but it is SOOOOOOO heavy….so that might me a job for the firemen.
Good pick with the embellishment container – that has a BUNCH in it and yep, well DAH – the COPIC – darn, they are in the MUST HAVES……
John laughs at me with my markers….when I get new ones…I am like kid!!!! It is funny what we love and go for but you are soooo right….it is a sad and oh so scary thing to even have to think about….I say – let’s all go to our Island of fun…together!
I lost my plastic piece, so my tool has been sitting in its box. Thank you, thank you for the vellum idea. I can now get going. I’m so happy. Yippy Skippy!
YIPPEE….I am like Fred Flintstone clickin’ my heels!!!! Go get that vellum and go to town! Thanks for the comment!
Or even cut a plastic from something you buy that has a hard plastic wrapper. I’m thinking like Spellbinder dies come in, but lots of other things come in that makes you swear to open it style plastic.
Yay for Robyn ! Enjoy your prizes !! Thanks Susan for that video because it gave me lots of ideas . I do not use my JIG . I use Misti and all of my wood block stamps have been converted . BUT ….after seeing you do such twisty twirly things with your SAJ ….well, I just think I will pull that little fella out .
My Grab and Go bag would have the basics ,plus a few stamping cubes with various colors ,my Color Box Cleaning Pad ,a couple of my Paper Pumpkin stamp sets because they are compact with lots of stamp choices ,a Coke (regular) and a bag of Coffee/Nut M& M s !!!
Will be here bright and early tomorrow to see your new card creation !!
Bye !
I am finishing up “The Voice” and thinking of you every minute – we are down to the top 2 right now and I am guessing….BLAKE IS GOING TO WIN!!!!!
Now quickly…how in the world have you not uses the “JIG” – In North Carolina….they DO the JIG!!!!!
WHAT – Coffee/Nut M&M’s….where in the world have I been…… oh yeah, Williamsport, MD!!!!
I am like you were. (Did that make sense? I hope you know what I meant!)>I’m so bad about the “jig”, I have three of them. Don’t ask me why, because even I don’t why? But, your video was not boring. I learned a lot from it. I love the little trick of placing your H.B.around your cardstock. That was cute. I will use my “jig” more now that I’ve seen this video. I just read a blog page from Julie DiMatteo who shows the “jig” but didn’t explain how to use it. She has two little ones, she probably doesn’t have time for explanations. I’m sure if I’d ask her she would have told me. But, I didn’t even think about it. Now I know why!
Congratulations to Robin for winning! Yay Robin!
I also loved the tip about sing vellum. I have decorated vellum (DSP velum). I don’t where I got it, but I’ll use t, now hat I know how to use a “jig”!
Thank you, Susan. I’m in the process of making wedding invitations, this will really help a lot!
Happy Stamping Everyone!!!!!!!!!!
