Simple & Sweet Birthday wishes…

IMG_3646

Now here is a card that just anyone…any age would enjoy! Festive and fun is the name of the game today and it kind of reminds me of balloons and polka dots – they always make me happy!

I made this card for a very special man that just turned 90! He is amazing…still lives on his own…still drives…still adores to travel (actually within the past year he went to Europe for 6 weeks) and on Saturday his family honored him with a special Birthday Dinner Party!

I was going to do something very masculine and actually John said to use the geese in the Wetlands Stamp Set but I just wanted something whimsical and fun as I am sure that he received many cards that were like that!

Let's get going…and please keep "happy" thoughts for Mr. Bohman and that he has many more special milestones ahead!

IMG_3647

  • I made my own note-card in Very Vanilla – a 3 1/2" X 5" card base and then I cut 3/4" off of the front panel with the paper trimmer!
  • Knowing that I wanted to use the Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper for the envelope, I let the colors guide me to the color scheme for today but I must admit – I made a boo-boo and did not even notice until I was writing down my supplies….(you'll see later) I cut a 3/4" X 5" strip of Bermuda Bay card stock and ran it through the Big Shot with the Large Scallop Edgelit! So fast and simple!

  • Adhering it with a small stream of Tombow liquid glue…I placed it to "peek" out from the front – I thought that this would give a bit of a different and unique twist! I love using this glue as you have a bit of "wiggle" before it sets up!
  • Wanting to use the Pennant Parade Stamp Set as it has been AGES since I have used it…I thought a quick and simple "party hay" would be fun – this is where I made my boo-boo – I used Island Indigo instead of Bermuda Bay and guess what – it looks great! See…you need to "roll with things"!!!

IMG_3651

  • Using the colors of Raspberry Ripple, Island Indigo and Gumball Green….I randomly stamped the little design here and there….and then naturally had to add my trademark "Susan dots" Hint and tip: – don't be afraid to stamp off the sides…doing this gives a more natural and free flowing look to your card making!
  • To the inside of the card I used the sentiment from the Cycle Celebration Stamp Set…I loved the font and the message was "spot on for Mr. Bohman"

  • I made the envelope with the Envelope Punch Board (I really…..really wish that Stampin' Up! would come out with this note card size in Very Vanilla ) and because I wanted the "party hats" to be going to right way – I decided not to stress myself out with lining the inside of the envelope….the outside works just fine!

IMG_3650

Now what do you think…..isn't this very doable! I was happy with the end result and I actually am looking forward to making cards with an "off set" like this! A change up every once in a while is fun and fresh!

Wowzers…this is the LAST DAY OF THE YEAR – exciting times! My heart is so full with all of the joy's I have been blessed with this past year…I have made goals and have obtained many of them…I am still working on some more…I am just super happy all the way around!!!

Tomorrow, I am going to share with you some of my "personal tips and tricks" with certain Stampin' Up! products and tell you why I love them! Hopefully you will not find it boring and my hopes are for you to walk away with a "nugget" that you will put to use!

Thanks for sharing a cup of coffee with me on this last day of 2013…..I cannot wait to share more fun times in 2014! Please feel free to email me and also remember – shopping in your jammies is fun….I know many of you are waiting for the new catalog, and I do not blame you…..you're gonna love it!

Be safe…we always stay at home….makes me happy cooking and being here….

Happy New Year and until next year!!!!

Stampin' hugs to you!

I’m back…and I missed you!!!

IMG_3612

These past several days have been FUN…a WHIRLWIND….but FANTASTIC and….

I missed my daily blogging…and I missed YOU!!!

Let me give you a quick recap…we had a fabulous Christmas and it is magical to have all of the peeps home chirping under the same roof…we have done everything and nothing all at the same time! When I say this, I mean – we have just enjoyed each other…no time schedules…no expectations….lots of cooking…game playing….sitting watching silly movies etc…

On Christmas Eve (in the morning) my Dad fell and I had to take him to an urgent care – he is fine but at 82 and has had hip replacements, you can not take a chance! Unfortunately he did not make it to Emma's for our special night but it is doing great!

After going here and there and having multiple things come up on Christmas Eve…I simply could not get my blog ready for you! This is the card I was going to share with you on Christmas morning and I decided to go ahead and share it with you as I think that it is super cute!

One of my childhood friends, John Hershey, has the luck of having his birthday on Christmas Day! I always felt sorry for him when I was a child as I felt he was always "ripped off" for gifts!

Now as we both turned the magical age of "50" this year, I view it very differently…a true gift! He is the last of the "friends" for this year in turning 50…many of us that turned 50 this year have known each other all of our lives…when I think about it – it is pretty special that so many of us were born and raised in our town and that we have all stayed here!!! There is something special about a small town!

IMG_3616

Enough babbling…let's get to it!

  • The size of this card is 5" X 7" – I thought for a milestone birthday, John deserved a special card! Because I was not exactly sure of the "placement" with the sentiments, I did use a piece of paper just 1/8" smaller and it worked perfectly!!!
  • The sentiments came from the Sassy Salutations Stamp Set and this is a "keeper one" – just adore the whimsical feel of the font! Using the Stamp-a-ma-jig for perfect placement…this came together easy-peasy! The colors of ink that I used were Gumball Green and Real Red!

  • The focal 50th came from the Memorable Moments Stamp Set and this stamp set sure does come in handy when you want a specific number etc…..

  • LOVE framelits and WOW – doesn't this work perfectly! These are from the Labels Collection Framelits…and it is super fun to layer different sizes to create a special WOW effect! A quick "stitch" around the edges gives is a fun and festive feel!!!
  • You can see that I used my Stampin' Vitamins…aka – Stampin' Dimensionals in LOTS of place – these little wonders truly make a HUGE difference to a card…

IMG_3615

  • Have you checked out the Clearance Rack??? well if not CLICK HERE and see the fun and savings! I used the Holiday Collection Framelit Dies and yep! they are on sale!!! There are some stamp sets that get retired but I hang onto them and this one….Scentsational Season Stamp Set is one that I love and now I am happy to see that the framelits are on sale! For $14.99 – I say WOOT-WOOT!!!

  • You know how I made the envelope…..the envelope punch board to the rescue! Use that simple guide…find the card size…cut your paper…punch – score = DONE!

This card is a great "formula" to use for a multitude of cards…doing a "repeat" of a sentiment is always a great focal part and also if you did it on a tone on tone – the result would be super and then let the POP come from the center stamp!

I'll do a card this way on my blog in the future! Remember, when you are paper crafting…there is no magical wand to what works…just roll with what feels comfortable to you!!!

IMG_3614

I hope that you are having a wonderful holiday season with family and friends….I have missed my "cyber friends" and a BIG hugs to each one of you!

Please share my blog with your friends…I am SUPER excited for you to see the NEW catalog….I will be posting new cards using these new goodies! Thanks for popping by and…..

Until tomorrow!!!!

Pals Paper Art Challenge – Birthday FUN!!!

IMG_3553

It's Thursday and you know what that means…time for another Pals Paper Art Challenge! Here is the challenge this week…it is a sketch challenge from Pal, Margaret Moody….her talent is endless!!!

IMG_3547

Well, before I get started…I have a confession!

This is the 1st time I have "played" with the new stamp sets from the SUPER great Occasions Catalog that is coming out with the New Year….BUT…I knew I needed to make a birthday card for my dear friend Kathleen…(she's one of the Iguana's) so….I thought the Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper was PERECT!

Well…it would have been perfect BUT – I used the wrong color….BUT the GREAT NEWS was….I instantly thought…Kathleen loves the Ravens Football Team so I will make it work!

Let's get to it!

1st – this stamp set is WONDERFUL…it is a new stamp set that will be in the Occasions Catalog and I am super happy to give you a "sneak peak"!!! "It "stamps beautifully for a big stamp" and it was fun using the colors of the Ravens to make it this fun card for her special day!

IMG_3548

The card itself is a 5" X 7" card…(I know over sized and an extra postage card) but it's worth it….as Kathleen is one special person!

The stamped image is Rich Razzleberry on a piece of Whisper White  – 5 1/8" X 3 3/8" and then I matted it with a piece of Basic Black….just an 1/8" larger!

For the focal "stripe part" I started with a piece of white card stock at 5 3/4" X 4" and then the "stripes" at 1 1/2" wide! Easy-peasy!!!

The "cup cake" stamp is PERFECT for Kathleen as her and her husband own a bakery and their specialty is "cupcakes"….

The punches I used were the 1" circle punch and the 1 1/4" scallop circle punch! Quick..Easy…DONE!

IMG_3549

Making an envelope is SUPER easy no matter what size your card it…just pull out the Envelope Punch Boar…look at the super awesome chart right on the board…find the appropriate size of the card your making…BAM….they will tell you exact

For this 5 X 7 card…I needed a piece of card stock measuring 9 1/2" X 9 1/2"…then follow the score number – BAM = a perfect envelope! I like to cut off the "point" part of the piece that you fold up. I simply take a ruler and lightly draw a line…to the trimmer it goes….slide and done!

How did I make the custom liner for this "odd size" of envelope? Again, easy-peasy…watch this video from my wonderful and talented upline, Mary Fish and it will make perfect sense to you! For those that like written directions here you go in a nut shell!

  • After you follow the paper size and the scoring size… – easy to make the liner – take a ruler and measure from the end point of the envelope to the "valley" of the side of the envelope…find that number…make a square and PUNCH – WHAM you are good to go!!!! (For this – I used a 5 3/8" square)

IMG_3551

This is  a fun sketch and I would encourage you to look at the sketches that are on the Pals Paper Art Website and look through them and see what you think that you will use over and over again!

I hope that you will HOP on and take a try at this challenge….it is fun and this card will be perfect for my friends special day! These challenges are open to ANYONE and that means YOU!!!! If you need help uploading a pictures of a card that you created…I will be happy to help you!

You can email me and I wil be happy to walk you through it!

Until tomorrow!

Happy 16th Birthday Ariane!

IMG_2917

This
is a special Birthday Card for a wonderful young lady that is celebrating her
“Sweet 16”!

Happy Birthday Ariane!!!

Ariane’s
Mom is a customer of mine and such an “over the top” talented stamper… I
hope they are having the time of their lives as they have “captured their
daughter and her best friend
” for a weekend getaway! She is going to be so surprised and I can hardly wait to hear all about the fun they had this weekend!

Ariane’s
favorite Stampin’ Up! Color is Wisteria Wonder and this is not your typical
“Susan Card”
but I will say it was fun and it was easy!

I
have several holiday Open Houses coming up and after making this today – you
betcha that I am going to make more cards similar to this with different color schemes, different themes etc….

I
have had these products for some time but I honestly have not used them a bunch
as remember…. – I am “Simple Susan” and I must say…I have
had 2 days of “not my traditional style” but I wanted to make this a
special card for a special milestone of turning 16!

Think
about this…do you remember turning 16?!?!

I
have a visual image and I am cringing thinking about it…but at the same time I am giggling about it!

The
pictures are speaking for themselves with this great card but I will say the
HUGE
help was from this video…. please watch it as it will be a huge help! Karen Burniston designed this for Stampin' Up!

IMG_2911When I sat down to do this card I googled Karen Burniston and found lots of great tutorials and ideas!

I feel so lucky that with technology we can learn, try, create….basically go to a class and become stronger paper crafters!

I
am so proud that Stampin’ Up! is so “on trend”

with what is out there on the
marketplace!

I
will say, when time allows, I plan to come up with some BINGO –BANGO ideas
for the holidays….using gift cards with
the Pop ‘n Cuts so I am going to dangle a “carrot to you"…Email
me
if you want a special card idea …

For those that email me, I will send you a great idea – for the upcoming
holidays! Just put in the subject line…I want something special….and I will send you a special inspiration for you to create!

Today I am going to let the video that I have showcased guide you…and then with my own personal touches..inspire you!

You will find all of the Pop 'n Cut components on page 188 of the annual Catalog. I realize that they are an investment to purchase but after you play with them and see all of the endless possibilities there are to do with them…you will be smiling!

IMG_2920

For today's card I used the Card Base Pop 'n Cuts and the Dress Form Pop 'n Cuts! It is sooooo nifty that this cuts the shape (a regular A-2 card size) and scores…cuts the slits to close the card….BAM!!!

Now with Dress Form…(it is on sale right now for just $16.46 – only until Tuesday) look the detail and versatility of this as we have the Dress Up Framelits and they have been a huge hit and timesaver….who wants to fussy cut a dress out!!!

The base "Happy 16" I thought turned out very cute! I know you like measurements so here you go!

IMG_2913

  • The very vanilla base is 3 1/8" X 3 7/8"
  • The Wisteria Wonder is 3" X 3 3/4"
  • The Very Vanilla that I stamped on is 3 X 3/12" and I used the "happy from the Happy Day Stamp Set and I masked the day before I stampd! I also used the scalloped trim border punch for a feminine touch! ( I forget about this but the wow factor is really there!!!!)

  • The "16" really is fun and you will be seeing these numbers and this stamp set a bunch coming up with ideas I have for December! It is from the Morning Post Numbers Stamp Set and it is on page 36 in the Holiday Catalog!

IMG_2914

  • This beautiful card folds right into a regular envelope! I say WOOT-WOOT! A simple lining to match the dress was the finale that was "the icing on the cake"

I hope that this has been a fun post for you and I hope that I have inspired you! Please do not forget to email me and put in the Subject Line "I want something special" and once I create this special something, I will send you a picture and also the tutorial on how to make it!

I am sure that many of you are thinking that purchasing these products would be such a big investment…well, you're right – it is an investment but at the same time you could become a demonstrator yourself and be able to get 30% off of your 1st order…a simple click here and you can get started today!

I have several "silent demonstrators" and they became demonstrators for this very reason, to get products at a discount! Stampin' Up! allows YOU to do whatever you want YOUR way…I would love for YOU to be on my team!

You all know that I adore what I do, I thank you for popping by and I would appreciate you to share my blog with family and friends…as my Mom always said, "word of mouth is the best form of advertisement"

It has not even been a year since I started to blog, and I am WOWED by the responses and people that I have touched and who have also touched me right back! Thank you…

Turning 16 is a special milestone! I hope that you can take a moment today and remember those great years! Ariane is a super sweet girl and I say….Happy Birthday to you!!!

Until tomorrow!

Birthday Fun…part #2!

IMG_2811
Mrs. Eddy is going to love this super cute box filled with chocolates but more importantly she is going to be "over the top happy" opening up her 85 Birthday cards in honor of her 85th Birthday!

Hopefully you are popping back from yesterday's post….and if not – click here and today will make sense to you!

This was yesterday's card and after I cut out the Top Note Die piece I had an "Ah-ha" moment and knew that this would be a fun gift for the birthday gal!

IMG_2807

Before we go further….a quick question for you!?!?

When you make a card or project – do you make just 1 or do you do 2?

I usually do 2 and if I really like it – I'll do more (just in case I need a quick card)…

I knew that I was going to make Mrs. Eddy a 3-D goodie with this stamp set as it is her….she loves convertibles….love gifts and giving to others and when I make these boxes I always make 2….why? – Easy-peasy as a sheet of paper makes (2) of the box part of this project!

I usually try to use up scraps and odd sheets of paper but I was out of big pieces of scraps in Melon Mambo and I decided to cut it out a new fresh sheet and cut it into quarters….well when I did it…and cut the Top Note out….I thought…this piece is perfect for a frame and this is how I came up with the outside part for her "cake" card!

IMG_2789
Can you see that I took the frame…put it on top of the white card stock…did a quick trace with a pencil of the outline and the card came to life! A pencil and a ruler are 2 peanut butter and jelly tools for card making!

Now to the box! I make these ALL THE TIME and not only are they fun to make…they are easy and they will clearly put a smile on any ones face!

Please click here and see a post that I did before showing you exactly how to make it!

Please email me if you need any help or have questions….these are amazing and so simple! I truly LOVE being able to use good old Avery Labels to decorate the chocolates!

IMG_2788

The stamp set is the Road to Happiness Stamp Set and it is just pure fun! You can switch our whatever you want in your "back seat" and it will bring a smile to your face!

I always use the water color paper when I use the Aqua Painters and the colors of ink for this fun project are: Melon Mambo,Blushing Bride and So Saffron!

After cutting out the Top Note Die Cut with the Water Color Paper…I simply cut at the perforated lines to make it pop against the Melon Mambo!

I added a bit of bling with the Brights Candy Dots as well as with the Melon Mambo Ribbon that added the extra special touch for my 85 year old friend!

When you see this box of love…are you smiling?

IMG_2809

I hope that you pop back to my original post and then put your thinking cap on and make some of these gems!

What candy do I use….nuggets! These are not only super yummy – they come in sooooo many flavors and the labels make it soooo easy….

I am gearing up for Christmas as these make a GREAT HIDING PLACE for a gift card! Who in the heck would not love a box of chocolates to find a gift card at the bottom!!!!

IMG_2814

Please let me know what you think of today's fun! Please keep the wonderful Mrs. Eddy in your thoughts as she truly is one of a kind and a true joy!

Please pop back tomorrow as I have a super easy-peasy card that I think is bingo-bango!!!!

This coming week is my monthly Breast Cancer Card making evening and tomorrow's post is a card we will be making…..a total fun and "feel good" evening!

Enjoy the day and until tomorrow!!!!

Birthday Fun…part #1

IMG_2807

Get ready for 2 days of fun…(well I hope that you like the posts as much as I do…) Today I will be showcasing a super fun and festive card for the most adorable 85 year old women that you had ever met!

Her daughter, Connie is probably the best "pick me up person I have ever met" and she is the best daughter to her Mom! I received an email from her yesterday asking if I would send her Mom a card as on Sunday she is having her to her home and "showering her with 85 Birthday Cards"

Now…please stop back tomorrow as tomorrow I will show you part #2 to Mrs. Eddy's Birthday goodies that I sent to her! It's super cute and I know that it will bring a smile to her beautiful face! I am "conserving" as I am using something from today that will be in tomorrow post!

Let's get to it!

IMG_2803

It will all come together tomorrow when you see "part #2" but for today – how about this super fun, clean, crisp card!

The Birthday Cake Stamp Set is the center stage of this card and it's a single stamp that is only available in "wood mount" and it is a must have! For $8.95 – how can you go wrong!

Using our super great Stampin' Markers in the colors of Melon Mambo, Blushing Bride, So Saffron and Island Indigo, the magic happened! Simply color the stamp as you would like….give the stamp a good "huff of stampin' love" and presto!

IMG_2805
Adding just a simple yet fun bling, the Brights Candy Dots seemed to be a natural fit for this card! These are the best! When I first saw them I noticed that you could use "brads" with them…so naturally I bought a bunch of brads….and I have yet to use them! I love the look without anythink else  – what do you think?

This is a short post as once you see tomorrow's – it will make sense as to why I did this card!

The envelope was a cinch and super easy! Remember…..many times I pick the paper of the liner first when I sit down to make a card…and then work my card around the liner I chose! This is exactly what I did today!

IMG_2801
The paper is from the Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper and it is nothing short than just clean FUN! I have said this before and here you go again…polka dots make me smile…! Fun, FUN colors!

Please pop back for part #2 to Mrs. Eddy's Birthday gift from John and I! She is a total hoot and trust me, if you are lucky enough to have a "Connie" in your life…you are one lucky and blessed person!

To me, she is one in a million and even though we do not get to see each other often….when we do – watch out….there's lot's of laughter!

Today is November 1st and you know what that means!!!! Time for a new "Best Of" Stamp set….this is a keeper one, The Best of Snow. Isn't is adorable! You betcha that this gem is coming to my home…remember when you buy 6 of the "Best Of's" you can get one free….click here to see the collection!

I can see some adorable water-coloring cards coming from this stamp set! Woot-woot! Remember that these are only available for a limited time….hit my shop now button and have fun!

Until tomorrow!
