*****UPDATE**** – I have sat at the hotel this morning going back to posts over this week and responding to many comments….I apologize that I am behind on that but if you wish to go back….please do so, I so appreciate and value your comments! LOVE your responses for today with the Dogs Name….this is super fun~ off to the Horse Show!
Good Morning and I hope that you are having a fantastic weekend! Here you go with the Step It Up Sunday card and right out of the gate – THIS IS MY PICK for our 2 day challenge!
Please read to the end of the post and I will give one person a chance to win this card (or yesterday’s if you prefer) with a fun “guess for you” and also a story behind the makings of the card!
The main difference between the 2 cards this weekend is that today I stamped the “thank you” in Versa Mark across the diagonal of the card~ this is super fun, super easy to do BUT you need to promise me that you will not stress in getting them lined up perfectly – JUST DO IT!
Several weeks ago I used Versa Mark to stamp and I had many questions about why did I do that rather than stamping in the same color? I guess the best answer I can give you is that certain colors (in my opinion) look better with the versamark than stamping it with the tone on tone.
We know that we use versamark when we heat emboss but when doing it in this fashion as I did today…it is nothing more than a simple stamp. The versamark just dries on its own with no smearing etc…
I personally love the look that this shows today. I would invite you to try it on a scrap piece of cardstock – first stamp it in the Sweet Sugarplum and then stamp it with the versamark and see which one you like better! I often do this will papers as I will say sometimes I like the versamark, sometimes I like the ink!
The other difference I did today was the mat of black paper – a simple yet effective POP factor! A POP of Black or a dark paper always adds interest.
Here you go…the thing that you love….dimensions! Please case away as it is a super cute card and you can have a ton of fun with different colors.
- The base is a 4 ¼” Thick Whisper White Card
- The Black is a 4” square
- The Sweet Sugarplum is a 3 7/8” square and then stamped with the “thank you” in versamark. The best tip that I can give you is….GO FOR IT! True, it is easier to do this method if your stamp is a photopolymer as you can “see through it” which makes it easier. I also used a piece of computer paper to put under the square as it keeps your work surface tidier.
- The Jar of adorable flowers is made with scraps (love this about this bundle) and the colors that I used were Basic Gray for the jar, Soft Sky (stamped off) for the water, the flowers were stamped with Sweet Sugarplum (the larger flower stamped off once) and then the smaller flower was stamped full strength!
- The little accents on the flower were stamped with good old basic black.
- For the linen thread, I ran a line of Fast Fuse against the back of the jar and then I wrapped the twine around. A simple bow was added to the front and secured with a glue dot!
- Just like yesterday, the envelope was made with the envelope punch board…love that piece of plastic!
So…do you have a favorite? I would love to hear your thoughts! Now to a story about this card.
When I received this “limited edition” bundle that YOU will be able to order starting August 2nd I went head over heels creating cards to post for you over the next several weeks.
Below is you pin-pic for you to save for a rainy day….I recommend you to do this….have a file that keeps the in’s and out’s of cards for you to make in the future!
Several days ago, I decided to head north to a horse show and I saw today’s card and said to myself – this would be a perfect card for a Sunday as I could easily whip up one for Saturday (yesterday’s post) I am super excited for this bundle and I know that many of you are excited as well.
Now for some fun…I ADORE going to horse shows because I get to see my “horse friends” and at shows there are ALWAYS a ton of adorable dogs! I simple cannot stop myself from taking pictures of adorable dogs but this one…made my heart skip a beat because of his priceless expression!
Leave me a comment and guess what his name is…I will give you a hint, as I know that there are so many options – it is a form of transportation and it is 2 words…when you hear it – you will say, THAT IS A HOOT OF A NAME. If no one guesses it, I will randomly pick the most cleaver guess.
Thank you for popping in and thank you for doing what we all LOVE to do, share handmade kindness. I am ALWAYS amazed at how a simple gesture of a handmade card with a heartfelt note can make a difference…I THANK YOU for making a difference to me!
I didn’t think it could get better than Saturday’s card but think the stepped up version is my favorite. I think the dog’s name is Hot Rod.
GORGEOUS card!!!! I really do like the stepped-up version! 🙂
The dog is so cute, but for some reason “Train Wreck” popped into my head!!! 😉
Crafty hugs,
Jennifer

Hi Susan, Yesterday I thought was a great card and couldn’t imagine how to step it up. Well, you did it. I love the Versamark thank yous! The pop of black is super too.
The name that came into my head immediately was “Golf Cart”, or maybe some name brand of one. I did have a cat once called “C-building” because that is where we found her, in a city hospital plant, in the “C-building”.
Hope you had a great weekend.
🙂
Whoops! Left today’s comment under yesterday’s post! I guess my dogs woke me up too early!
Susan I loved yesterday’s card but I am over the top about today’s card. I have a couple of very special birthday cards to make and may Copy and Selectively Edit you card!
As for the pooch – Tug Boat came to mind.
Thanks for inspiring us. Hugs.
Love the stepped up version. The Thank You background just makes the card.
How about Choo Choo for the dog’s name.
I, too, LOVE today’s card! It was the Versamark that did it?
Think I’ll guess “Slow Poke” since he looks like he doesn’t move very fast and would prefer to be driven around.
I love today’s card! The black mat just makes it pop! As for the dog’s name, my guess is Harley Davidson.
Both cards are beautiful, but if I had to choose I would pick the stepped up verison. Stamping the Thank You in versa mark draws you eye to the mason jar, and makes it pop. My guess for the dogs name is Harley Davidson. We owned a Harley Davidson golf cart at one it.
I like today`s card best as well . I am thinking the dog`s name could be Skate Board – maybe he or she – LOL , does that .
I love both cards but today’s is the winner. Love the versamark and the black background.
How about Mack Truck. We once saw a spinnaker on a boat with a bulldog. We though it was for the Yale mascot. Turns out it was the Mack Truck mascot. But I really like Tug Boat and Golf Cart! And Train Wreck also! Love all the ideas!
Love today’s card! The versamark and black mat make it pop. The water in the jar is so subtle and natural. Great job! This dog is super adorable! My guess for his name is “golf buggy.” Have a gun day! ?
I worked a resort years ago, and seem to remember the brand name of the golf carts was something like “E-Z Ride” or “E-Z Glide,” so I’ll guess his name is Easy Rider. (Oh, yes–the cards …! They’re both great, but today’s is truly “a cut above!”
I like both cards, but today’s card gets my vote:-). What an adorable dog! His face is just too cute! I think his name might be Sherman Tank – he’s pretty sturdy – like a tank! Lol!
I am praying catch up today…..reading your posts back-to-back. Both cards are adorable but especially am drawn to today’s. I like the Versa mark thank you and pop of black matting really makes it a favorite for me. I was thinking Bruiser when I first saw the dog (what a face ?) but with transportation in mind………I will guess Sun Chaser after the pontoon boats. ?
I think this is my favorite card of yours of all time! It’s gorgeous and I hope I win it! Everyone has suggested very cool and clever names for your friend. I love Tug Boat and Choo Choo. All I could come up with is Segway or Drive By.
Stampin love to all on this beautiful Sunday!
Susan,
Love today’s card. I also use the versamark to stamp rather then the ink itself. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, what a cute dog! I guess Train Wreck.
Oh, I love the card, too!
The Jar of Love bundle wasn’t even on my radar but recently it has shot to the top of my wish list. Your card is perfect.. For the dog, some pretty good names have been submitted.. How about LOVE BOAT
Beautiful cards!! The flowers are so pretty!!! How about Ferry Boat??
I’m going to write my entry before I read the other comments…Bulldozer for the chunky dog. I know it’s only one word, but that’s what comes to mind. Love the names others have chosen. Today’s card is my choice. I love this stepped up version with the Versamark, blue water, and the black layer. Have a great time at the horse show.
Love all your cards and this week the stepped up version is the winner! My guess: the dogs name is Golf Cart!
Love your Sunday card. I have been playing with versa mark on different papers, even have used it on envelopes for some different effects. I have a sweet spot in my heart for those big bull dogs eyes. I will guess Big Rig.
Love your card, Susan!! This set is on my wish list and coming closer to the top with your ideas.
My guess for the dog’s name is going to be Mack Truck since he immediately reminded me of my husband’s truck hood ornament. 🙂
I think Mack Truck must be the favorite…That was my first thought too. I also like Sherman Tank. How about Steam Roller because he looks like he could flatten anything?
I love your Sunday card with the VersaMark stamped background. That is one technique that I love and ALWAYS forget to use!
Ooo… Ooo… Ooo! (Channeling Arnold Horshack). Is it Humvee?
Oh, 2 words – hmmm… Dump Truck?
Before the hint for the pup’s name I thought it was going to be something like “Puff Ball.” Now in that vein, I’m going to guess Baby Carriage. Some of the other guesses are so clever.
I actually like yesterday’s card better than this one because it is so clean and simple. Not saying this one isn’t but I like the crispness of yesterday’s better. Another plus of Versamark over tone on tone stamping is I”ve had tone on tone stamping fade away over time but never Versamark.
I love today’s card, also! The Versa Mark adds a nice subtle backdrop for the beautiful jar of flowers! How about Tractor Part?
Love your card! I diddn’t think there was any way you could step it up, but you certainly did! Love it! My guess for the dog is Mack Truck. and he is adorable.
very cute – both the car and the dog. I like Mack Truck & Sherman Tank guessed above, but to throw a third into the mix, I’ll call him Hot Rod. (Though for single words I like Bulldozer or sidecar)
I LOVE both cards equally but for different reasons but then I love all your cards! 🙂
I I really I really like the versa mark. That bulldog looks like he likes to travel likes to travel. They might call him R V.
Liked today’s card simple but elegant.
This dog is cute, think her name might be – Pick-up!
Love our card! Freight Train for the dog…he is so…cute??
Ummm…not sure why the ‘y’ on my keyboard doesn’t always type…make my comment YOUR card, not our card!
Taxi Cab
Rolls Royce, but he really looks like a Bentley to me. Love the card.
I love them both but today’s card is beautiful. I am not home right now but want to make when I get home. I think the dog could be named Ben Hogan, for the great golfer. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. From your Texas friend,Alyece Garrett
I’ll guess “four wheeler”.
Scooter Pooter is my guess for the dog’s name. I do love the above mentioned Freight Train though. I would never have thought of that, but it is perfect.
Really like the cards you did — both days, but today is my preference. I sure do like the two day posts. Usually I like the second day best, but not always and it is interesting to see that little changes make a big difference. Just yesterday I made a card and when it was done (yeah, shoot — all glued and everything) I realized I could have made it much better by sponging the edges of the embellishment. Oh, well! It was done and now it is sent so I need to quit harping on myself!
Have a great week
I love your card. How about Steam Boat.
Love this card! Stamping in Versamark is a great look on darker cardstock. My guess for the bulldog’s name is Choo Choo!
My first guess was Bowzers until you said it was a form of transportation. Now my guess is Choo Choo as in train~
i love bull dogs and have always wanted one but had to settle for the bassets. So many names come to mind esp. since the bull dog is the mascot for Drake in Des Moines. By the size of that rope on the dog, i would say TUG BOAT as he would need some tugging. But Duffer Dan comes to mind or Steam Ship or PT Cruiser.
Oh about the cards, sitting on the fence – can’t decide which I love the most it is a toss up I guess, Love them both.
We read your post this morning and spent some time contemplating our answers, but I almost forgot to post our answers!! Dan came up with “Range Rover”; Caleb came up with “Red Caboose” and I decided on “Harley Davidson” (calling him “Harley” for short). I didn’t think you could top yesterday’s card but you did! Love both versions. We went to a horse show yesterday also. They are so peaceful, and it brought back so many fun memories from my childhood (I had a horse named Rosie). I hope you’ve enjoyed your day!
How about about Chuck Wagon? Looks like he hangs out there either way.
Susan, I missed your site yesterday. Both cards are beautiful I think I lean to th stepped up version. The Versa Mark and the black really are beautiful. I have a Engkish Buil Dog. I loved hearing all of the names. I like tug Boat for he looks like a tug. That rope tells me he is on a boat . I am so glad you had fun at the horse show. Thank you for sharing all the pictures of these great dogs. Please tell us his name . Ellen Hinds
His name is Tug Boat…I think that is sooooo darn cute! He just “loved” having the attention of everyone walking up to him!
I just saw this and love the both but love the step it up version. I must get this set now!!! I’ve been thinking about it and I think these two cards you made sold me on it!! Adorable!!
This is the most thorough tutorial I have come across in a VERY long time. Thank you so very much. 🙂
