To end this FUN week that we have had with “Practical Posts” – how can we not end with a good Old Fashion AMAZING Chocolate Chip Cookies! I honestly do not thing that I know of one person that does not like Chocolate Chip Cookies!
You know that I LOVE presentation…and today is no different! Mason Jars are a classic…and Chocolate Chip Cookies are a classic, so I ask you ~ how can you go wrong? These are a great gift to give all year long as again, how can you go wrong with a classic!
Here you go with a super quick recipe!
Mason Jar Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
For every one-quart jar,(use the wide mouth) ~ you will need:
1 3/4 c. flour
3/4 t. baking soda
1 /2 t. salt
1/2 c. white sugar
3/4 c. (packed) dark brown sugar
1 1/2 c. chocolate chips
Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl – pour into your mason jar (I found a funnel to be VERY useful )– especially when making a bunch of these!
Using your “tool” – I like a long ice tea spoon, tamp the flour mixture down till it is firmly packed and level. The BEST tip I can give you is to start with the flour and also tapping the Mason Jar firmly on your counter as that also makes it good and tight.
Add the Dark Brown Sugar and White Sugar….with the chocolate chips and if you have room ( I always have room) – I add some walnuts or pecans…..YUM and THEN seal the jar.
Here are the directions that I put on the tag.
Empty contents of jar into a large bowl.
In separate bowl combine 3/4 cup of butter (use the real stuff), 1 egg and 1 yolk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat until creamy. Add to dry mixture. Drop by tablespoonful onto an ungreased cookie sheet, and bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool on a rack and grab some milk and go to heaven!
Here is a baking tip that I have always found to be a fool proof way to have your cookies come out perfectly. I keep (2) cookie sheets for JUST making cookies and I ALWAYS use a Silpat Mat on my baking sheet. Here are the type of sheets I use – you can get them anywhere but for ease sake – I am linking them to Amazon (I get mine at Sam’s Club)
As I have been saying that I am stocking up the PEEPS kitchens this year and yep, they are each getting the tools for making perfect cookies plus one of these jars! I bet I have had my Silpat Mats for over 15 years – they are the best and a game changer!
The sky is the limit on how you decorate the jar! (a great way to use up leftovers!) and I added a strip of tear -n- tape to the back of the ribbon and then it was a breeze to adhere.
Let’s chat real quick about the fun tag. I used the Santas Sleigh Thinlits for the tree and this IS being carried over BUT NOT THE BUNDLE PRICE….so if you do not have this set….I ask you , “why not?” as it is an all time Christmas classic. Next year, you will be able to buy them but NOT at the bundled price! I cut (2) of them from Garden Green as type A Susan liked to cover the back so you did not see the the red tag that I adhered to the tree.
The sentiment is from the Candy Cane Christmas and this IS walking the plank so if you want it, scoop it up! I heat embossed it with white, I just LOVE that pop!
I think that you can see that this is a “keeper” that you can use all year long and with many different recipes. It would be perfect for any occasion to give and trust me, when someone sees a Mason Jar filled with love and then realizes that YOU took YOUR time to make this…you will be their NEW BEST FRIEND!
I often look for these when they are on sale and then when I make them….I make a bunch because you can go down a list real quick with who would love them – also a PERFECT hostess gift!
Well…I hope that this made you happy and that you will also make someone else happy with a great gift like this! This is a great project to do with children and as I said before, they are fun to make in the “masses” – they is nothing like seeing a bunch of these on your counters ready to go!
Jammie shopping on on trend…..”just saying” 🙂
You’re right, Susan, who doesn’t love chocolate chip cookies!! What a practical and delicious gift. Your presentation is beautiful. Have a great Sunday.
Susan, you have done it again! Another GREAT goodie to make! I can’t wait to try these. A-POP-ing we will go!
I agree, your presentation is beautiful and makes the gift super special! Your recipe sounds easy and delish….can’t wait to try it! Yum! ?
Another great gift idea!! I love the ribbon that you used around the top of the jar. Gorgeous!! We’re going to give your recipe a try. 🙂
Fun presentation! I haven’t done jar mixes in a long time. They were always a hit – at least they said they were! If you have trouble layering them nice and neat – go to plan B. I saw where people painted the jars red and added a belt and some white paint for the front buttoned part of Santa’s jacket. Or, Grinch green and use the evil looking eyes from the Jar of Haunts set and make a joke on the tag something like I had to make you do the baking as the grinch was eating them as fast as they were coming out of the oven. Or something else the grinch would come up with. The tag with the recipe could be in the shape of a mason jar too. If you do not have the Candy Cane Christmas set for the saying and you do have the Jar of Haunts – you can just mask the part “A spooky (with the bat wings) and you have TREAT FOR YOU TO EAT. Of course the Yummy Little Christmas set would definitely come in handy too. My favorite is “It’s the most Decadent Time of the Year” and I would love to receive tags that said that to use in the future. I just have been justifying purchasing the set as there are a couple others I would love to have. Anyway, what I am trying to say is that you can work with the idea and use a multitude of sets to make the tag and recipe. Same for the pretty ribbon and twine Susan used, Add a circle of paper to the top under the rim of the jar. Use washi tape or any type of ribbon or that cool kraft rope for a homey look and the pine boughs can dress up a jar of hot chocolate mix or even put the packets in the jar itself! Trust me, the sky is the limit.
Thanks Susan, I am going to print off the Amazon photo of those cookie sheets and the Silpat mats (which are on sale even) for something I want for Christmas. He has been using my cooking stuff for his his brisket and all those other meats and has ruined some of my favorite plastic bowls with hot spices that left a permanent orangish looking ring and lots of warped cookie sheets. I have always wanted to try the mats for the sheets but never knew which to get. This way he can hit the button and have them sent here and they even would gift wrap it says if he doesn’t want to go to the stores. Trust me, I don’t want to get him in a Williams and Sonoma store!
Thanks all for letting me take Susan’s great idea and expand on it! I guess that can be my holiday gift to you all! Oh, speaking of gift, when we were students we had tons of people we wanted to give a little something to – I took the original box the jars came in and wrapped it nicely with a big bow to put under the tree at work. When it got to be closer to Christmas I opened it up and gave everyone one of the festive jars that was in the bigger box!
Sorry group, I have one more story and idea for you. While Ted and I were visiting a shut in the other day – I noticed someone had given her one of those small trees with a burlap wrap on the bottom. When we had a Dollar Tree they used to sell them for a $1. The only decoration would be a sorry little red bow on top. Anyway, I picked up a couple of those little plastic boxes of little bright and shiny ornament balls marked 1/2 price due the plastic box being damaged. I am going to put them in a jar. I will buy her a bag of candy kisses too to add after we take out the ornaments. I am going to my neighbor and stamp either Maurice or the trio of mice from the Merry Mice set and color it and add the Wishing you a Festive Season on one side and It’s Time to Deck the Halls on the other side. I think Edna will get a real kick out of it. I know my neighbor ordered the set when it on sale. She was going to use it and then give it to her granddaughter. Edna can keep her candy in the jar so the mice don’t get them! Not that they have mice in the apt bldg but at least it will be decorated!
Hi Susan, Oh I love this idea. I have never use these jars. My daughter did last year for her co-workers. I am saving and printing this off and maybe I’ll get to it this season. Wish I had a chocolate chip cooking now. Ha. Ha. I’m having a super great day . . . made two sets of eight note cards so far, and still going. Oh and listening to Christmas music too.
🙂
I saw these jars at ACE Hardware over the summer and planned to make Christmas decorations, small ornaments and candies, for my small stamp group with them. However, they opted for low-key this year so I’ll keep that plan on the back burner. I love your Christmas tree tag. That’s a brilliant plan.
And I would say that I don’t like chocolate chip cookies but I’ve had some homemade ones that are divine. Just keep those store bought ones far, far away from me.
Another great idea!! My family loves fudge and pizzelles!!
Hi Susan, Daisy Mae here. I am Carol’s dog and I stepped in to add a comment about those “cookies” in your post today. I totally agree with the dog pictured in your blog…Carol’s homemade treats are the BEST! Now, she likes chocolate chip as does her three boys and husband…but I prefer the doggie ones. Thanks for the chance to win and for inspiring Carol. She loves making cards and gifts for her Seniors.
