“Wing It” Wednesday!

Stampin' Up! Better Together Stamp, Playful Palette Washi Tape, Playful Palette DSP,Stamp-a-ma-jig,Stampin' Up! Clean and Simple Card, Susan Itell - simplestampin

Hello all and HAPPY HUMP DAY! I was in the mood to just do something different so I decided that today would be a “WING IT WEDNESDAY”, being that I just looked at what I first saw and said – CREATE SOMETHING!

Well….there is was, my Washi Tape…the Washi Tape was the victim for the day! I then thought, this is PERFECT as so many of you buy it but then I hear you do not use it…well, we need to do something that. I can remember when Stampin’ Up! first came out with it I thought….”What the heck is this stuff”, I truly thought that it was a fad but it is still around and going strong!

Today’s card is like a “little black dress” – it would work for just about any occasions, all you would need to do is to dress it UP…or dress it DOWN and leave it super simple. Just think of all of the sentiments that are out there!

Because this stamp set, Better Together is NOT a photopolymer, I did use the stamp-a-ma-jig for ease of sentiment placement….remember, this piece of plastic IS your friend….do not toss it across the room!!!! Keep working with it!!! Check out this stamp set it you do not already have it…it is what I call a KEEPER! Love the variety of fonts!

Better Together Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

Let’s get right to this simple card..a triple stamp of the sentiment with a simple mat…and accent rectangle behind – BAM….the STAGE HAS BEEN SET IN A JIF! Now I ask you, could YOU do this!?!?! In the next 2 pictures you will see how I built the platform for the stage…now get ready…it is really, really hard – pull out a piece of scraps, 4″ X 5 1/4″ and put tape down ~ THAT IS IT!

I know that some people like to cut off the Washi Tape, I like to just roll it to the back and stick it. I would recommend using a super strong adhesive like the Fast Fuse or Tear and Tape as that seems to hold well against the washi tape if you are matting it to a base.

It truly does not get any simpler than this and still even though it is simple, there is a WOW to it. I invite you to think if ANY card you create to be a WOW because it came from YOU…that in itself is super special and I think that many times we forget about giving ourself credit for making our own works of art!

Here is your 411 – Directory Assistance photo for you to hover over and pin away! I know that this DSP has a very modern feel to it but the think I really like about it is that it pairs with Very Vanilla. I am thrilled that Stampin’ Up! has many DSP’s that work with Very Vanilla!

Tuesday Tips ~ Storing your Bakers Twine!

Simple Stampin' Tips and Tricks for storing Bakers Twine and Ribbon

Here you go my organizing friends. Here is another topic that sometimes stresses us out. For me, 2 things that stress me out about Bakers Twine are:

  • The creases  in the bakers twine because of how it is packaged.
  • Pulling out a bunch and having it tangle.

I have several of these containers and they are PERFECT for my needs. I always keep the rolls from ribbon to use for other uses like this and also my son Will loves them for his classroom! (o.k. – he likes the rolls from the ribbon but doesn’t want to craft with dear old Mom)

Here is a link of the container from Amazon, I do know that you can find it at Bed, Bath & Beyond (don’t forget your coupon) but for some reason I am not finding it on the site….this is the best that I can do for you but remember the dimensions are 12″ X 4″ X 3″. What I like to do is take the spools with you when you go so you can make sure that it works for your needs!

Simple Stampin' ideas on how to store Bakers Twine

These have been game changers for me. I have several of them in drawers that I can simply pull out and see exactly what I need! I have on a wall a ribbon organizer that really is more of a pain than what it is worth. It is a great visual but I find it not to be super user friendly. I use that for discontinued ribbon, we all love our ribbon and we use it up until the roll is gone!

Ok…ok….here is the TYPE A in me, I use the handy label maker to mark my Bakers Twine…WHY?????? Easy = Items come and go so often and I adore Bakers Twine and honestly, I really do not shy away from using it – here is a link from Amazon, (by far the best price)

Remember, this label maker comes in all different widths and colors of tape – have fun!

I hope that this post has helped you and has also “rang a bell” in case you are like me….not liking the creases in the Bakers Twine! Have a fabulous day and until tomorrow……go and make someone smile!

A Monday “Step up”

Stampin' Up! Sitting Here Photopolymer, Blooms & Bliss DSP, Watercoloring, Susan Itell - simplestampin

Happy New Week…Happy Monday! I know that my schedule has been all over the place but I think that this is a super fun card and hands down, my pick is today’s! Please do not get me wrong as I adore the simplicity and super “quickness” of yesterday’s card…but today, the pillows are the icing on the cake!

I have a ca-zillion pictures for you and I am sure that they will be a huge help to you! One thing that I hope that you “dust off the shelf” is the Aqua Painter. Not only is a a great tool, there are lots of fun stamp sets in the Holiday Catalog that lends itself to the Aqua Painter. It is not scary…it is fun…just grab a piece of paper towel, squeeze the ink pads to transfer ink to the lid and GO HAVE FUN! Here is the image of the stamp set!

The inspiration on the “how to” for making the pillows is from the fun and super talented Lydia Fiedler – you can CLICK HERE and see a great video she did with the paper tole technique. Lydia has such an amazing eye for color and detail and I thank her for making me jump off the board and try – it is soooo fun and easy!

Here you go….enjoy the pictures – let me know how you like it……I adore pillows, I think this is a “female” thing – John used to always tease me with the ampunt of pillows we have on our bed! I adore these pillows on the card!

This 1st picture…I stamped the pillows 3 x’s in case I messed up! It is funny, the easiest one (the circle one) took me 3 tries to get the look I liked!  The adding of the Sahara Sand around the pillows before I snipped them out made it easy not to be so precise and then a quick swipe of the Sahara Sand marker makes the finishing touch “spot on”

Now I ask you….isn’t this super sweet! Please do not worry about being “perfect” about coloring the pillows – truth be told, WHAT IS PERFECT? – That is something that I think none of us know so JUST DO IT! I do not know about you…but I would LOVE to hop on this swing and take life in!

Below you can see the gentle “puffiness” of the pillows, just enough to make a subtle yet effective statement. I did the same with the swing today ~ just used Sahara Sand and then for the bench pad I just used Blushing Bride.

In the line up at the end of the post you will see the line up of colors that I used. I added the Mint Macaron today to add a third color of POP!

Please feel free leave a comment and share what your thoughts are about doing this “pillow thing” – I must admit, I was proud of myself and I can see that I will do this technique in the future…..with balloons would be super fun!

Simple Sunday…..

WOW ~ I have you all messed up and I admit, I am messed up with our schedule as well. Well…yesterday did not work out as I planned and I need to be out of town all day….but even thought it was not in the “PLANS” for the day…..it worked out and all is good!

I admit, I purchased this set because of the simple peacefulness it has….wow – sitting on a porch sounds right up my alley. We all seem to go and go and go and go……sitting, taking it all in sounds great! Personally, Johns parents had a swing on their porch and it was a special time to sit, rock and talk! Sounds great….right?

Today I am sharing with you a super simple version and then tomorrow I am going to give you the STEPPED UP VERSION with the dimensions and then you can get a glimpse of both, and then you decide – which works for you? Doesn’t this have wonderful sentiments? I think that they would be great to use with other stamps as well.

I can see a “sun” with the “you always make me smile”….or a beach themed stamp with the “just sitting here thinking of you” – this is where I encourage you to look at what you have and make it work! 🙂

The Designer Series Paper is the super beautiful Blooms & Bliss….so beautiful, so unique! I know that this has been a favorite of many and you can see why, the details yet softness makes this a keeper!

I did use an Aqua Painter to do a super quick swipe – swipe of the colors of Sahara Sand and Rich Razzleberry….this was super fast and super effective to give depth. If you were to use the markers, I think that it would have been too stark…this is a super softness and it helps bring out the inner Picasso in you (I know that you have it as I believe in YOU!)

Here is your quick “low down ~ 411” of the card! Please give me the chance tomorrow to let you see how changing it up a bit makes a difference. Some lie the stepped up…some do not – and guess what – that is TOTALLY FINE…..variety is the spice of life….right?
