BOO! It’s hip to be square!

IMG_0394

You know that I adore my square cards! Today’s card is “doubly” HIP TO BE SQUARE as you can see that I have many, many squares! When I was an avid scrap-booker, I loved using 1″ squares to add fun and interest to a card!

This is not only a super great way to use up scraps but it is a FUN and FESTIVE card that will surely bring a smile to anyone that is lucky enough to receive it….Because this is a favorite layout for me, I am going to give you the scoop as I hope that you make a card like this….just think of all of the amazing DSP’s we have….FUN!

The “secret weapon” for this card is the 1″ punch, true you can use the trimmer for it but trust me, not only is it easier/faster with a punch…you get the exact same time each and every time!

Let’s get going as I do love to share with you how to make cards that make my heart happy and this layout is one of them!

IMG_0395

  • The overall size of this card is a 4 1/2″ square in Very Vanilla
  • Using 4 different patterns pop out (4) of each using the 1″ punch
  • Take a 4″ piece of scrap and cover the square with the pieces you popped out. (This is another key factor for this card…by having this as a base, you will never have to worry it you have them straight etc…)

IMG_0392

  • Cut a piece of black a “smidge” larger, 4 1/8″ and add then the “fun square masterpiece” to it.
  • The “BOO” came from the Boo To You Framelits Dies….this is a fun bundle from the new catalog!
  • The Lots Of Labels Framelits Dies were the framelits that made the back drop for the BOO! Pull out your black pen and dash away and dot away, this add a great touch but…..

IMG_0400

  • Now the the silly fun….the crazy silver threads coming out of the back of the sentiment. I simply took snail to the back and then added strands of thread to give it a festive effect –
  • The envelope was made with the envelope punch board…fast, fun and oh so custom each and every time. I laugh at myself when I think that I was so intimidated with this tool when it first came out but trust me, for $20.00 ~ it is one of the best bangs for your buck and you will always be able to make any size of envelopes.

Monday fun!

IMG_0363

Good Monday morning and I have a super sweet, fun and simple card for you today! I made a switch back to the annual catalog as I as feeling sorry for it as once the Holiday Catalog comes out….the poor Annual one gets to the back-burner!

If you follow my blog, you already know that I adore single stamps and I was thrilled that this stamp was carried over! A great single stamp like this one, Kind Koala is a keeper as not only it is sweet but also it is super affordable at just  $10.00.

IMG_0371

I am trying to continue to show and share with you that using Designer Series Paper as a focal part to the front of a card nit only “WORKS” but also makes a great impact! To kick off the week – I have given you all of the dimensions so I do hope that you will try this card!

  • The card is an A-2 card in the vertical position and I am using the Heavy Card Stock. If you have not worked with this…it is easy – YOU NEED TO and I can almost guarantee that once you try it, you will never go back.
  • I cut another piece of white to 4” X 5 ¼” to use as a base for a mat to build the card on.
  • Cutting the Designer Series paper at the same size (4” X 5 ¼”) I am able to make (2) of these cards at the same time. This paper is from the Into the Woods Paper Pack. I took the paper trimmer and placed it on the diagonal on the track and cut it in half. I adhere this to the white piece.

IMG_0370

  • I admit, I used the stamp-a-ma jig to place my little friend as I wanted it to be “JUST RIGHT” and I know that I am reassured of perfect placement each and every time with my “plastic friend”. I used the must have new Black Archival Ink.
  • This ink allows you to watercolor with it and even though I am not using watercolor paper today, this heavy weight card stock will work fine with a small area like I am showcasing. The colors I used were Soft Suede and Hello Honey with the Aqua Painters.
  • To carry the theme of this card, I took the soft suede and the hello honey and cut slivers of paper to adhere against the DSP for some fun interest.

IMG_0367

  • I added a little bow to our friend but pulling the threads from the 5/8" cotton ribbon and then added a fun bow to make him feel extra special!
  • To make everything POP, I matted this to a piece of soft suede a smidge larger…. 4 1/8" X 5 3/8". To me, this is just the perfect POP to pull it all together and trust me, I used the centers and punched out some acorns! (No wasting a bit)
  • You know me, my favorite part of my cards….the beloved envelope – I used 1/4" strips of paper and then the DSP….adhered it and then snipped the excess away!

IMG_0358

Hopefully that this brought a smile to your face today and it also inspired you to pull of some DSP and use it as a focal part to your projects. I know that it is hard to do but once you give it a try, you will love it!

Please do not forget that I Rewards program – Paw Prints Rewards to "thank you" for your support. Who does not like free stamp sets….I know I sure do! Have a great day and here is to a great week ahead.

Step it up Sunday!

IMG_0327

Good Morning and here is a different take on yesterday's card! They both work… it comes down to time! Classic, clean and simple they are…but today's just take a bit more time with the addition of another layer of paper….(Tip Tip Taupe) and some quick stamping in the background!

You can click here to see yesterdays post and then look at them side by side and then you decide! Personally, I do not think that you would go wrong with either one.

IMG_0336

One thing that I did not touch on so much yesterday was the precision plate. It is in the new catalog and my guess is that it will be carried over as it is a super addition to the Big Shot! It is meant to make it easier to get "more detailed" dies out.

It does that but please do not think that they fall out…BUT the thing that I love is that the cut is very, very clean, none of those "straggly" pieces that hang off and I simply use the paper piercing tool to do a quick "poke" – I love it and YES, I do think that it is worth the purchase!

IMG_0329

You can see that I am using the Tip Top Taupe new In Color, something that I must admit that I have not used a tin but I do think that it is a great neutral that works with many color palettes! It works great with the Vanilla and I also used a small snowflake stamp to give a tone on tone effect!

The other switch was the colors of the background of the ornament…again, they both look great and I think it is totally a personal preference as to what you like….but you can easily see that this card can be made with a multitude of different color combinations!

Did you notice that I added a girls best friend = pearls!

IMG_0330

The one thing that is a must (in my opinion) is the vanilla coaster board – this adds that extra special touch that make people look at it and say…..how did she do that! It is all about the "staples" that we have (besides the stamps, paper and ink) that make the whole journey work! (I call them secret weapons)

I chose to do the same thing for the envelope today as I think that it is super clean and classic. One think that I do suggest when you use a super dark paper like this is to use the entire framelit. Usually I do a "short change" and cut my paper to 3" X 6" and then use the envelope framelit.

I think when you are using card stock and also when it is super dark like this one….it is important to line the entire envelope so you do not see a "line/seam" where the "cut off" piece is. Again, just my thoughts but I think it does make a difference .

IMG_0338

There you go, another fun weekend post. I hope that you are having a fabulous weekend and I am looking forward to a productive week ahead! Please remember that tomorrow is the last day for you to take advantage of the weekly deals……I am placing my order for some Fast Fuse refills….I love a deal – how about you?

Until tomorrow…please have a great day and make someone smile – trust me, you will smile instantly!

Simple Saturday…really SIMPLE!

IMG_0313

As my wonderful Mom used to tell me, "You just cannot beat the classics" and this is a great example of a classic card that would have been super special 10 years ago, today and in 10 years!

Today this is a "stripped down version" (and I really like it a bunch) but I do hope that you pop back tomorrow and see how I have "stepped it up a bit" – it feels great to be back to our weekend posts of Simple Saturday and Step it up Sunday!

IMG_0322

It is hard to get a good picture of this card but I do hope that you can see the simplistic beauty of being so darn simple! You can see the items that I used in todays card and I know what you are thinking….WOWZERS, these framelits are pricey!  – Trust me – I get it but I will say that the beauty of these framelits and the attention to detail is over the top!

IMG_0317

I totally forgot to put in the famous "scrolling store" the vanilla coaster board – this is a product that I use almost always when using sentiment framelits – I just LOVE it as it give the classic life that is needed!

One question I get asked all the time – is it easy to use? – YES

Does it work well with the Big Shot? – YESVanilla Coaster Board by Stampin' Up!

This card just simply does not get any easier than this…..a great Neutral – Very Vanilla….a classic accent color – Night of Navy = a great card!

IMG_0312

Did you notice the gold twine? This is the best, very affordable and give an instant WOW! The last picture, the beloved envelope! I used just the Night of Navy to line …simple but it works!

Please pop back tomorrow to see what is up my sleeve!
