Good Morning…..well….did you sleep? Did you have fun looking at the new catalog? My poor catalog looks like it has been through a war as it has been flipped through so many times….I guess I should say that it is well loved!
From the feedback I have had, you all love it and I do as well – soooooo many bundles (woot-woot, an instant 15% off – you can click here to see them in one spot, the new designer series papers are "off the charts", and one of my new favorites (truly must have) are the black and gray ink pads – they are fabulous!
Let's get to why you are here and let me explain the title for todays post. Sometimes we need to have a card that can be for many different uses….that's what I call a good old "multi purpose card"…WHY??? EASY = it is super clean and simple and can go for both masculine as well as feminine and all you have to do is change up the sentiments – PRESTO = DONE!
I needed to make a card for my children's God Father…and this is also a tough time of the year for him as next week will be a year that he lost his Dad so I wanted to make something that I could wish him Happy Birthday but at the same time be able to write him a heartfelt note letting him know I'm think of him.
The color of this card is the wonderful neutral, Sahara Sand….I thought that this would be a great pick to use with the mossy meadow and the liner from the Farmers Market Designer Series Paper.
The 2 stamp set that I used are both keepers, the Lightheart Leaves and Cottage Greetings (love both of them – very, very versatile choices).. I know that it is not recommended to use the Aqua painters with regular card-stock but if you "practice and get pretty slick at it" – you can make it work!
Now let's chat on 2 things!
You can see that I used (2) greens….have fun mixing up the colors when you watercolor – I ued Mossy Meadow and Old Olive and then Rich Razzleberry as the Blackberry was too darn…again, play and test as sometimes you need to tweak things!
Did you see where the sweet ribbon/treads came from…yep – so easy….just pull the treads from the 5/8" ribbon – works like a charm.
I had to do a bit of scored lines…you know I love to do that as I find it super effective. I "touched" on the new Black Ink….well it is fabulous (now I still have a love affair with the Memento) but this is a super rich, dark and leaves such a precise stamp…you can see the crispness on the card!
I say…."One Sweet and Clean Card"….what do you think? Because I wanted to have the envelope match, I used a piece of Sahara Sand with the Envelope Punch Board. I just love this piece of plastic – and it helped me also make the liner for the envelope from the Farmers Market Designer Series Paper.
Now we need to have some fun…..I said the other day that we need to play a game….and the game is called – "HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW SUSAN" I just love games!….Take the new catalog and see if you can pick out the 10 favorite things that you think I would just have to have.
On Friday I will share with you my picks and have a video for you…this should be fun – it will be super hard to narrow it to 10…but we will have fun…..(I'll give you a freebie of one of them – one of the products are in thispost) – remember, it is going to be hard for just 10 and it will include anything in the new catalog!
Since we all seem to be family and if you want to leave a comment with the picks – I know that we all would love to see how well you think that you know me and my style!
Thanks for sharing time with me today, remember the offerings of rewarding you with orders you place with me and this new catalog but please remember to use the hostess code of YHNMUJNJ for you to get the fun freebies from me!
You will love tomorrows card (I think) – and I hope to see you back!
Yippee-Skippee…. it’s a new week and don’t forget that today is the last day for you to take advantage of the weekly deals. I am going to focus on the Envelope Punch Board, as it is sooooooo worth focusing on again!
We made it home late last night and I had several emails that “I lost you”on the explanation of the how to make the envelope liner for the square envelope….at the very end of this post I will add the specific measurements for you and then I promise the next video I do is going to be about envelopes!!!
How about the title today…..NO STAMPS NEEDED! – That is because we are going to be focusing on how the envelope punch board with make you some FUN and ADORABLE POPPERS from a 6” X 6” piece of paper!
The 1st reason I say WOOT-WOOT is that our paper stacks are 6” X 6” and I know that many of you scratch your head as what to do with the papers in the stack that are either not your favorite or simply what to do with DSP that seems to GROW and GROW with your obsession!
Again, no falling off your chair….I have a video for you! Enjoy going to the movies with me and then please do not hesitate to email me if you need help and/or feel free to leave me a comment!
Hopefully the video helps but here is some “SCOOP” for you that you can print off!
For the Popper:
With a 6” X 6” piece of paper, cut it at 4 ½”
With the scoring board and the short side at the top, score at 1”,2”,3” &4”
Fold on score lines (I would also use the bone folder)
Pull out your must have Envelope Punch Board and line up (using the long 6” side) and put the edge at 1” mark…PUNCH – then flip the paper over and place that back at the 1” mark and PUNCH.
Fold down to the next score line and do the same….go to 1” PUNCH – FLIP – Punch and do it again until you have completed all folds.
Using a piece of Tear and Tape, place it of the ½” piece in the middle – fold over to seal.
Use a glue dot on each end to secure.
Pinch in the sides and tie a piece of ribbon!
To make the Belly Band:
Take a piece of scrap paper 2” X 4 ¾” and score with the Stampin’ Trimmer just a “smidge” larger than 1” (but not to the 1 1/8” mark)….do this on every inch!
Take the scored piece and using the Simply Scored, score at 1/8” on each side twice….(you’ll end up with (2) vertical lines on each side.
Place a small piece of Tear and Tape on the ¾” piece and then wrap around the adore POPPER…..stand back and SMILE –
YOU DID IT and I JUST KNOW YOU ARE SMILING!
Now let me share some exact measurements for you to make sense out of yesterdays post on how to make the simple liner for the square envelope!
Using the measurements that are on the punch board to make the envelope to fit a 4 ½” card….go to town and make the envelope – SMILE again because it really is easy….right!?!?!
Take a ruler from the point (at the top of the envelope flap) to the side (of where the flap folds down) and remember that measurement = it is 3 3/4"
Take off ¼” from the measurement that you are remembering and cut a square = 3 1/2". Easy right….
Take this square and take it to the envelope punch board and go 1/8” smaller than your square size = 3 3/8" …..PUNCH….
FLIP OVER the square and place it right back to the same measurement = 3 3/8" ….PUNCH and you are DONE!
Place adhesive and SMILE!
Again, I will do the next video on envelopes, as you know that I like my envelopes as much as I do making cards!
Please pop back tomorrow; as you will see something super cute that is going to go with the POPPER that you saw a sneak peek on in the video! Enjoy the day, feel free to email me and many thanks for POPPING in!
My kids….I just have to love them….it was Hannah's turn to come to me earlier this week and say, "Mom – canyou make me some thank-yous to send to the professors that worked with me in Boston?" Naturally I said sure but then there were specific requests!
Can you make them super simple…
Can you not put flowers on them because I am sending them to men…
I do want them to be fun and look like something that I would like…
Can you give me enough room to write a bunch because I have a lot to say….
I truly wish that you all could meet Hannah….she is a piece of work…a beautiful and special young lady and a very smart one! She is a Biology Major at a very small college in North Carolina and was given an incredible opportunity to meet for 3 days with some Harvard Professors that are helping her with her thesis that she is writing next year.
I truly do not know where she came from as her siblings all look at her and say – Where did she come from….she adored being with her big brother and when I would call Will and say – How's it going with Hannah? – He would say GREAT….she is in science heaven!
Enough….let's get to this card! There are a couple of things (well honestly, many things) that I adore about this card.
I I I I love that it is…..
ZOOM – super fast and Easy
Colors are fun
Love…LOVE the (2) stamp sets…….Watercolor Thank You and You've Got This
It is an odd size, 4 1/2" square
ANYONE would love to receive it!
We all need to have "secret weapons" like this card…Just think of how quickly that this card came together and think about what a fabulous "stash" it would be to have in many color combinations etc….
The key is to pick 2 shades of colors that are in the "same church…different pew" I used Pool Party and Bermuda Bay. The other trick is to stamp off the pool party once to make it a bit lighter and then the Bermuda Bay will really…..really POP!
Now you have heard me blog this week about this…..the weekly deals – this envelope punch board is a HANDS DOWN….YOU NEED IT! It is only $15.00 this week and remember, the deal ends on Monday night!
I simply do not know where to start with this great product….naturally it makes envelopes, but it also makes all sorts of 3-D super cute items (pop back on Monday as that is what the post is about)
I know that we all have a great background stamp, today was the fabulous cross thatch from the You've Got This…..but if you do not have a stamp like this….how about inking up a stamp block? Do you remember when we used to do that all of the time….it is a great way to add a great effect!
I think that we all can agree…this IS super simple but at the same time SUPER cute! It is totally o.k to keep things simple. Sometimes I think that we all "over think" and keep adding more and more and then get frustrated! Does this sound familiar?
Please pop back tomorrow and you will see some simple, quick and effective changes that will step todays card up…and there is no doubt that you will say – "I can do that"!!!
I have some super great posts for you this week and I am super excited to kick off the week showcasing this kit. Have you ever been excited to put something together but you just haven't made the time to do so? Well, this is totally me with this kit.
The minute I saw it in the catalog I knew that it was coming to Randall Lane. WHY???? Easy-peasy because I knew that Stampin' Up! would have this be a super sturdy product and I loved the fact that everything is included to make these gems…all for just $14.00.
(click on the below image to see everything up close…it is amazing all that is in there and the best thing = you walk away with 10 adorable boxes!)
True, the stamp set is not in the kit but they showcase the All Boxed Up Stamp Set to be used with it and you will see in my pictures that I did use it an made it right as the video has shown and it is SUPER cute and then you will see that I stepped some up and used a stamp set that I have and wowzers, I love it! (Remember, you can click any of the products that are at the end of the post to see them up close)
I have a bunch of pictures for you as I know you love pictures. I hope that you can see not only the quality of this product, but also think of how you can use these…perfect for a quick thank you, a birthday, an office gift and they really do hold a bunch!
Please grab a cup of coffee and watch this short video. Stampin' Up! is doing a BANG UP job with these product videos – you will see first hand how easy it is to put them together!
I follow the directions to the tee and the pom-pom trim totally makes me smile – to me, it is the FUN icing on the cake and they supply you with AMPLE bakers twine…you know that I love to use multiple strands to make my bows and I have plenty left!
Now I am going to show you a simple addition I did and to me, it made a great difference and one that I totally think is worth it. I used the new decorative masks, Happy Patterns with versamark. Have you ever tried these masks? If not…try them – they are fun, they are effective and they are super affordable.
Here you can see them side by side, one completed just as the kit suggested and the other with the masks and then I used a sentiment from the Tin of Cards Stamp Set (I used this stamp set last month for my Stamp of the Month Kit and this is a STELLAR stamp set….to me a total must have as the sentiment and fonts are fantastic)
In the kit there are 2" circles and there are some extras so I just used them but I did use the scalloped punch to mat behind, remember – punches are speed tools – speed tools save us a ton of time = This makes us happy!
The above one I added another banner using a scrap – it just feels wonderful to use up scraps – and then after adhering them together I used the bone folder to slightly curl the banner before I adhered it to the box.
The Itty Bitty Flowers were my "hiding place" to cover up the glue dot I used anchor the bakers twine. So what do you think….they are cute? I really like these masks – for just $6.00 you will get (4) different stencils and they clean up very easily….I simply run them under water and presto….wipe them dry!
Now you know how I feel about dots…a HUGE smile is instantly on my face and I hope that you pop back tomorrow as I think I have another FUN post that will bring a HUGE smile on your face and I also hope that it will be an inspiration for you!
Well…thoughts my friends? How do you like them…..do you feel that you could find a need for them? I honestly cannot see how you could not as it would easily brighten someones day and you can really use soooooo many stamps that you already have on your shelf!
Leave me a comment by 9 p.m. (Eastern) and let me know how you like them…and when you pop back on Tuesday, one person will win the Gold Sheet of stickers that are in the kit and then I will also send you (2) of these for you to make and decorate. (I will use the versamark mask on one for you and the other will be plain so you can see the difference!
Remember that I do offer a Simple Stampin’ Paw Prints Rewards which will allow you to earn free stamp sets…for every $25.00 you will earn a Paw Print. You know what I would do? I would order these (3) things and you will get a Paw Print…
Go ahead and HIT THAT SHOP NOW button or use the scrolling store…and get your week started off great with a Paw Print! I am excited for tomorrow…super cute, super fun and a KEEPER for so many occasions!
P.S. – I just had to share this with you…it makes me so happy when I feel like I have inspired you to try a post. Look at this super fun card…great job Patty and many thanks for letting me share your fun card.
Please do not click me off because this card is sooooooo boring…..
there is a story behind ii!
Last evening after James finished work, I needed to take him to pick up his car that was being worked on. When he hopped out of the car he said that he needed to stop at CVS to pick up a card for his intern that is having his last day today.
I looked at him and said…”James – what am I CHOPPED LIVER…..do you remember what your Momdoes???” We both laughed and he said that he didn’t want anything fancy as it was for a young man around 21.
As I drove home I planned this simple card in my head and I knew exactly what to do ~ it was just killin’ me…no ribbon or twine…no punches…no dashes or dots….just a “Plain James” card.
Well…I must admit – it is really not that bad. I think that it is super hard to come up with clean and simple Masculine Cards and I will say that this paper is very fitting for a masculine card. The DSP is Typeset and it is just a very neutral collection.
The card is an good old A-2 size and then the “grid design” is just ¼” smaller = 5 ¼” X 4” . Here is a tip on how I decide what size of the vanilla paper I will need for the sentiment. Because I used the stamp-a-ma-jig, after I stamped it on the clear plastic piece I took my ruler and measured it roughly to determine the size I would need.
Now I know you are going to ask me what the size is…and I will add it to the post in the morning – I am sitting in bed with ice on my ankle and now my knee to as that is hurting from the “hobbling around” I then added ¼” to the size for the black piece.
Yesterday I had a comment on how do I do my envelopes with DSP. I am so glad that I was asked this. Sometimes I think that we take things for granted and heck….if you do not ever ask, you will never know so I am thrilled to do a quick run through.
It is so simple. If I am covering the back flap I cut a piece of DSP or cardstock to 2 ½’ wide by 6” long. The pictures below will help you and then I take the “green glue” and run a small bead of glue all the way around.
TIP ALERT: The best way not to get too much is to never “lift” the tip of the green glue up….just gently squeeze to get a thin bead of glue. IF you do get TOO MUCH – no worries, just set it aside and let it dry or set up a bit….it will just get a bit firmer and then when you put your DSP on it….it will not ooze out!
Simply rub a dub dub….and then flip it over and trim away the excess. ANOTHER TIP: – PLEASE DO NOTSTRESS about getting a perfect cut. Trust me, just do the best job that you can and no one will ever know the difference. That is it my friends!
Now to the next funny thing….after James and I went through this whole thing about the card…I ended up making (6) of them for James to keep at work as he truly is wonderful in writing notes to people ~ John walked in the door and saw the cards on the Kitchen table and said…”Now I like these, can I take them to work!”
So the moral of the story is don’t underestimate keeping it simple. I know that it is not one of my usual cards but at the same time, it is true to my style!
This weekend I have a treat for you….when you see tomorrow’s card you are going to say – THAT IS NOTSIMPLE….but I will help you see that it really is simple.
It’s like looking at a recipe, many times if we see a recipe that lists a ton of ingredients we pass on it….and when you see the card tomorrow you will say, that looks hard…but I am here to help you!
Then….I already have the “stepped up version” ready for Sunday and I think that the little changes will make you smile! I was super pleased with it.
Thanks for being simply the best! Please remember that shopping away in your jammies is totally normal!!! (hint-hint) – as my Mom always said, referrals are the best form of advertisement so please share my blog and passion I have with my paper crafting fun!
Woot-Woot – the weekend is here…I hope that you will be able to pop in over the weekend and I hope that “MY GUYS” card today showed you that less is best and it works!
I have a feeling that you might get this song stuck in your head today…..so let's get going and sing….
"You are my sunshine…my only sunshine – you make me happy when skies are gray…"
Now how about this for a super quick card, it clearly is super sweet and fun! This is from the stamp set Over The Rainbow Photopolymer Stamp Set and it is the first time I have used it. I can see many fun cards made with this fun set!
The size of the card today is my "go to" Whisper White Notecard and Envelopes and did you notice that after I did my stamping I ran it through with the super fun Large Polka Dot Embossing Folder? I see that the Texture Boutique Machine is still in the clearance rack – at 50% off…..$14.99 – you can not go wrong!
This card is just so darn simple, you do not need me at all on this one so enjoy the photos! I love that Stampin' Up! is having more "water colored" types of stamps….to me it is just so fun and whimsical!
Because I used the stampin' dimensionals to pop up the stamped layer, I simple placed a small amount of snail on the back to hold the bakers twine and then just added the bow to the front! This to me, is the easiest way to do it!
Make sure that you do all of your stamping before you run it through with an embossing folder…I think this effect works much better with an "open embossing folder" like this one…..it just adds interest!
Now look at this envelope liner – it just has to make you smile….Polka Dots are the INSTANT SMILE MAKER in my eyes! I simply cannot get enpugh of them and these new paper stacks are just amazing!
I just had to leave you with this super sweet picture of my dear Rosie…..she went into Leo's kennel and it is soooo darn funny – she snuggles her way under this blanket and looks like she is in bed!
It is funny that the dogs all want to go in there as it is new to the house! Leo (James' puppy) fits in with the "troops" and even Daisey – I wish I could get a good picture of him but he is just one super happy wiggle worm!
I sure am hoping that the clearance rack has lots of new goodies in there that it will make me smile bigger than this sweet card does! Let's have a great day……and go have fun shopping in your jammies…..I love sharing a cup of coffee with you!
